After playing two matches for Melbourne early in the season, Milicevic has not played for the club since October, when he was suspended for breaching team rules.

Doubt it...

Yeah... but I am just talking about feasibility. I can see him playing there... but I can't see Lawrie wanting to change this:
Caceras - Hutchinson - Jedinak - Pondeljiak / Owens/Kwasnik/Osman.

Perhaps as a striker... but if we sign Aloisi and if Mrdja gets fit, that means we have 4 pretty awesome strikers.

Elrich Snr, in the midfeild would add completion, and Tommy aging could help and if gumps leaves.

i could see Elrich fitting in right back as:

Elrich - Boogaard - Wilkinson - Heffernan

Even Osman instead of Elrich Jnr. at RB, more healthy competition in the team doesnt hurt.
Elrich Jnr would be a good signing if Clarky retires.

Ok - in all seriousness I am concerned about our inability so far to secure JA for next season.

I really hope he puts pen to paper for us this week. We need some good news.....

To be honest, I dont think Aloisi is worth more than the 500000 we paid for him this season.

He is only getting older and slower. I mean he still has great vision and all, but he isn't exactly at the peak of his game. Aloisi is a proven goal scorer and I will be pleased to re-sign him, but if he decides to leave (seeking more than we can afford), I wouldn't be that disappointed.

Agree with that however to be fair to JA - we do not have the guys who can give him the service he needs.

One creative Midfielder would solve that issue.....and if Tommy goes we have grinders in the midfield - no one to open them up....

caceres wouldnt be bad in  a creative capacity but i do agree that we need better options in the midfield.

Up front, we need someone with blistering pace................

All we have to do is get him a new heart muscle and we will have the best striker in the HAL (for more than a few games that is)

Agree - but does he have the heart muscle and the kahuna's to match?

Is he playing for the lightning? Is he willing to give it a go?

Mariners set to begin Aloisi talks
AAP - February 25, 2008, 3:14 pm

Central Coast will this week cast aside the disappointment of their A-League grand final loss and begin negotiations to re-sign John Aloisi, admitting they face a huge challenge to keep the striker.

The Socceroos striker is off contract after his one-year deal - believed to be worth $500,000 - came to an end following the Mariners' 1-0 loss in Sydney on Sunday night.

The Mariners would like to keep Aloisi but chief executive Lyall Gorman admitted the club would find it difficult to compete with overseas clubs for his signature.

"We'll be sitting down with his management later this week and we expect that matter to come to a conclusion one way or another in the next few days," Gorman said of the 32-year-old.

"The thing with John is he's got a lot of football left in him and he's got some tremendous opportunities to reap some tremendous rewards.

"The money he could earn off-shore for example is far in excess of what any A-League club can do here so we fully respect John's goal to maximise his earning.

"We'll sit down and see what we can do but if it's not good enough, as always we'll never burn a bridge."

Asked whether he was confident the Mariners could table an offer that would entice Aloisi to stay, Gorman said: "Not necessarily, when you hear the sort of dollars that can be offered in other markets.

"I don't think any club here can match what can be had off-shore at the moment and that's a frustration in the game here that we've got to work through over time."

Aloisi's wages this year did not have to be included under the salary cap because he was signed as cover for an injured player.

If re-signed for next season, he would become the Mariners' marquee player, with current marquee signing Tony Vidmar having retired.

If they were unable to re-sign Aloisi, Gorman said the Central Coast would not seek out another marquee player just for the sake of it.

"If we could strengthen our squad with three or four good talented players, instead of one marquee player it's something we would give serious consideration to," he said.

The Central Coast players spent Monday together reflecting on a successful season despite Sunday's loss.

"They're having a day out together, celebrating a great year and letting their hair down," Gorman said.

"If someone had said at the start of the year that we'd be first past the post premiers, qualify for Asia and be runners up in the grand final, we'd take that," he said.

"It (the grand final loss) is disappointing but that's the rollercoaster of sport."</p>

I agree though I think Perth have him for next year. But could be a good pick up for the ACL. What would be the chances of getting Downey at Right back next year, lots of pace and potential there

I think to be fair to JA he was well marked but we had no one getting the ball to him. We could have any forward in the world and it would not have mattered yesterday (ok apart from the header)

He has not looked happy for the past month and he was quick to walk off when we won the Semi Final.

I would like us (if he doesn't sign) to sign a creative mid fielder - maybe we could get Juniniho and we get Mrdja, Petrovski and Simon fit and scoring.

I would be dirty on JA if he was to go to another A-League club....
