Have to agree with Clarence on his assessment on Wilko.  I though Pedj did a fantastic job and cleaned up very well a couple of time with Wilko caught out of position.

The great thing is though we now have some great depth and players challenging for starting spots in every role is going to keep them all on their toes.

Fair calls clarence and bladesman. I was spending a lot of time soaking up Bay 16 and Bozza so I'm not going to argue with you. I just do seem to remember at least half a dozen last ditch blocks in the box that helped make Nichmaster Boz look good. By your words it could have been a few key moments in an otherwise average run out.

Northernspirit - totally agree with you. I don't think we will finish top two, but injuries and suspensions to test our depth (and that of other teams) and a bit of luck is likely decide whether we finish 3rd or 6th.

i'm hopeless at creating chances, i'm unco and i can barely run, so that pretty well puts me in the running for a contract as a right back at derby county, doesn't it?

We have better depth and better variety in almost all positions than almost every other HAL team,

we have good depth yes but not the best quality, some clubs have invested heavily in key players ie. sydney melb and adelaide.... whereas we have gone for the squad approach, over a longer season id say we'd be at a massive advantage but with such a short season we may need to hope for a few key injuries to other teams key players, if they get injured then they dont have the same quality backup that we have... hopefully it means over the course of the 21 rounds we are the most consistant however we may not have the quality in some areas to win the grand final, just my opinion of course!

Mmmmmm, It's been funny for me over the last few months... I've kept silent on this issue because I really have felt I must be in a deluded minority - especially considering the TAB and even the coaches... But I really just haven't been so phased by any of the other clubs "big signings"

I was concerned we hadn't recruited actively enough, but now I am at peace.
Lawrie, Lyall and co have done us proud as ever.

As i've stated before, striker wise, I was actually content to see Aloi$i go and from what I saw at this particular junction in time, Dylan is of like or better worth. Matt Simon is clearly on the rise, Sasho looks better than I've seen him in any season yet, and Nik, well, all things aside, most agree on his immense potential... and it really is now or never time isn't it, and I think he will.
Thats a considerable bloody front line.

I also wouldn't swap a Collosimo, Monkey boy or say Trinidad for our Jedi, Caceres or Hutcho powered midfield... Not to mention Porter who could be the major surprise of the HAL season if he emulates anything close to Sundays form.

Defensively, Heff, Wilko coming back in form, Boogs returning, Clarkey the gifted heart strong veteran, Ossie and now D D Apuzzo and pedj the ledg - I think we stack up against any back line in HAL and have far more talented depth than most.

My two biggest concerns "were" defensive depth (done) and as Brett expressed creative attacking play in the middle of the park that would link with our forward line.... but after seeing Adrian and Ahmad (clearly fitter and flourishing under Clarkey expert ministrations) and the way they inter played in particular with big Dyl and Porter (some really beautful play) ...So any other teams "key signings" are really going to have to STEP THE HELL UP to convince me we are anything less than serious silverware contenders again.

TBH, I do see "a squad" not a star speckled team...
but it's a squad with some quality flare now imo, yet one that can clearly also still battle it out with the accustomed heart we love our yellow army so much for...

TBH I've been wondering what sort of a supporters group we've got here; virtually everyone being negative about our prospects for the season. I think you make some good points and I'm certainly optimistic about the season ahead. Perhaps I can afford to be because I'm not an expert. But, even if your post was one-eyed crap (which it isn't) I reckon there is definitely a place for that on a supporters group forum.

On top of that, I think there should be more blind faith in Lawrie; he certainly has proven that he deserves that sort of credit. I've been getting tired of hearing stuff like "the Mariners are going to go badly this year because there are holes in our line-up" type statements. And I'm tired of seeing predictions of 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th places. And its all being justified by "well, I'm just being realistic". Why do we have to be realistic on a supporters group forum? What ever happened to the idea of being 3-0 down and singing "we're going to beat you 4-3"?

Anyway, I'm with you SS. And it may be blind or one-eyed faith, but I truly believe we're a big chance of another plate and a grand final win. Nick Mrdja to have a blinder of a season. Mat Simon to score the winning goal and the sea of yellow will blow the roof off the stadium.
