well done clarky as he started pre-season very late

. you had me going there, i thought you were saying clarkie was late to start (he doesn't have an off-season does he?)

. you did mean clarkie had done well with caceres in a short time right?

Thanks DSE, I wasn't expecting that.

Gee, the opposition will have plenty to work with for banners with that name.

I reckon Elrich has plenty of potential. There are still a few misunderstandings and some mistakes, but if he can get an understanding going with the strikers going, I reckon he is going to pull of some amazing combinations up front.

As for the nix, I never paid any attention to his performance with the nix, but it is clearly not affecting his performance with us so the care factor is still zero on that score.

The combination of Elrich and Mrdja will be nothing short of stunning. Come on Nik... Stay healthy and show this league exactly what you can do!  :pirashoot:

Bojic looks class
and hopefully Mrdja stays fit, him and petrovski at the start of last season were the best forward pairing in the league, hopefully they can work together again

Bojic capture completes Mariners outfield line up

The Central Coast Mariners today added Australian youth international and
standout NSW Premier League defender Pedj Bojic to their playing roster for
season four, thus satisfying the clubs outfield recruitment plans ahead of
the Hyundai A-League 2008/09 season.

Bojic has signed a one-year deal with the yellow and navy having so
impressed for NSW Premier League highflyers the Sutherland Sharks, coupled
with standout showings for the Mariners in trial matches stretching back to
late June.

Bojics signature had also been sought by at least one of the Mariners
Hyundai A-League rivals, making the 24-year-olds recruitment a significant
coup for the reigning Premiers and their Members and supporters, who were
first introduced to Bojic at Bluetongue Stadium yesterday, where he
completed an impressive ninety minutes alongside captain Alex Wilkinson in
central defence.

Bojics capture sees the Mariners with 21 players on their books for season
four, with the creative defender one of five new signings added to the
Mariners roster for 2008/09, along with Adrian Caceres, David DApuzzo,
Ahmad Elrich and Dylan Macallister.

"Pedj is a player that weve been keeping our eye on for some time and were
suitably convinced and confident that he has a lot to offer at this level,"
said Mariners Executive Chairman Lyall Gorman.

"Pedj is regarded by many as the best player in the NSW Premier League and,
mindful of the success that weve had previously when recruiting from this
league with the likes of Mile Jedinak and Matt Simon, were hoping to have
landed another success story in Pedj.

"Were confident that Pedjs character and ability, coupled with his
determination to succeed in the Hyundai A-League will make him a fantastic
and vital addition to our playing stocks for our Premiership defence and
were delighted to have officially welcomed him to our club for what we
believe will be another very successful season."

Most notably, Bojics previous playing experience included a noteworthy
stint in Englands third and fourth tier competitions with Northampton Town.

Bojic adjusted to the intense atmosphere of Englands match heavy Football
League 2 competition without fail in his first season away from home in
2004/05.

During his first campaign at Sixfields Stadium, Bojic was challenged by
beanpole marksman and England striker Peter Crouch in the FA Cup at a time
where the current Portsmouth lynchpin was playing with Southamption, and
also came up against a Barnsley outfit that featured Sunderlands Michael
Chopra and Qantas Socceroo Jacob Burns in the same competition.

Northampton reached the promotion playoffs after finishing seventh, only to
lose out to Southend United at the first hurdle.

In his second season in Englands East Midlands, Bojic enjoyed
unquestionably his most memorable campaign playing a cornerstone role in
securing Northampton a rare promotion to Englands third tier, where the
Cobblers had seldom made an impression previously.

Northampton finished second to secure one of the three automatic promotion
places, with Bojic netting six goals in 43 league and cup appearances, the
highlights of which were an opening day equaliser away to Lincoln Town and a
starting eleven berth against a Crystal Palace side featuring current
Everton striker and England international Andy Johnson in the third round of
the FA Cup.

Injury concerns between January and April 2007 ruled Bojic out of a
significant portion of Northamptons subsequent Football League 1 campaign,
where the Cobblers settled for a mid-table finish, with Bojic still managing
30 appearances.

Before departing for England, Bojic debuted for the Parramatta Power in
their 2001/02 season as a 17-year-old alongside current Mariners team-mate
Ahmad Elrich and Development Manager Alex Tobin in a 3-1 win over the
Wollongong Wolves.

At international level, Bojic was an influential member of Australias 2001
FIFA Under-17 World Cup charge, where he often lined up alongside Mariners
captain Wilkinson in central defence throughout the qualification campaign
and then the World Cup itself, which was staged in Trinidad & Tobago.

Bojic started each of Australias group matches in Port of Spain his
contributions most noteworthy in a 1-0 triumph over the host nation and a
4-0 drubbing of a Croatian side featuring Portsmouths Niko Kranjcar.

"One of the primary reasons I left England in 2007 was in the hope of
breaking into the Hyundai A-League and Im delighted to have been given this
chance by the Central Coast Mariners," said Bojic.

"Since returning, Ive trained with a few clubs and experienced some of the
setups on offer around the country and, for me, the Mariners was head and
shoulders above the rest, particularly in regards to the team spirit and
morale here, which is among the best Ive ever been apart of.

"Im excited to be playing alongside each of my new team-mates here on the
Central Coast and Im confident, as the entire playing group is, that we
have a squad capable of lifting some silverware this season and continuing
the fine history that this club has set in previous years."

The one thing that would of mad that game more complete is if alosi the trader was there to suffer on the pitch and if he had taken the penalty

but from wat i saw sydney r goin to choke

the passin game by macca was top class and ahmad attackin bursts were frigan good adrian looks like he can com into the strikers posi and get the job done which is a good change though the game

and bozzzaaa wat a game could go much better som good saves a penalty stop and the way he takes control on the defence is trully top class one i think of the first to do it so it could b a huge plus 4 us
carnt wait to c the season start with a full squad

we have now officially extended clarky's and mjdra's contracts:

The Central Coast Mariners have confirmed the re-signings of key foundation players Andrew Clark and Nik Mrdja for the 2008/09 season.

Over three seasons with the club, Clark has made 70 competitive appearances, including two in the current 2008 Pre-Season Cup competition.

Striker Mrdja has largely struggled through three injury-dominated seasons, being limited to nine starts for the club.

The Mariners also added Australian youth international and NSW Premier League defender Pedj Bojic to their playing roster for the upcoming season.

The Central Coast Mariners today confirmed the re-signings of key foundation players Andrew Clark and Nik Mrdja for the Hyundai A-League 2008/09 season.

Clark, who has been a cornerstone contributor to the Mariners defensive steel since season one, has also worked as the clubs Strength & Conditioning Coach since its inception, making the local product one the genuinely unique talents in Australian football.

Over three seasons with his hometown club, Clark has made 70 competitive appearances, including two in the current 2008 Pre-Season Cup competition.

Striker Mrdja has largely struggled through three injury-dominated seasons, although, on occasions when fit has proven his place as one of Australias most lethal and uncompromising attacking weapons.

Knee concerns have restricted Mrdja to nine Hyundai A-League starts over three campaigns, during which time the Perth-born marksman has netted three goals and showcased enough from to warrant a Qantas Socceroos debut in September of last year.

With his long-term knee injury now behind him and, in the words of the player better than ever, Mrdja has signed on for another season on the Central Coast, which includes an option for a follow up season in 2009/10.

"Were delighted to have today secured the services of two of our key foundation players and, it must be said, two players that have had quite differing fortunes in Mariners colours since our inception," said Mariners Executive Chairman Lyall Gorman.

"Andrew has been a pillar of strength in more ways than one for us his effort off the pitch is seldom recognised and really needs to be seen to be believed and to that end, Andrew has contributed immensely to the success of the Mariners for the past three years and were delighted that hell have the opportunity to do so again in season four.

"Nik has been most unfortunate with some quite serious injury concerns, but he has worked extremely hard and to a stringent and specific rehabilitation program for almost six months now to ensure that he will be right to go for the new campaign.

"On the occasions that Nik has been available, he has demonstrated quite clearly that he is potentially the best striker in the Hyundai A-League and Im excited, as Im sure our Members and supporters will be, at the prospect of a fully fit Nik Mrdja adding to our already imposing front line in 2008/09."

With Clark and Mrdjas re-signings, the Mariners have recruited ten members of their inaugural 20-man squad to spearhead the yellow and navys fourth Hyundai A-League charge.

Both Clark and Mrdja were starters for the Mariners in their first ever competitive match against the Newcastle Jets at Bluetongue Stadium in the opening round of the Club World Championship qualifying series on 7 May, 2005.

Mrdja netted the Mariners first ever competition goal from the penalty spot against Adelaide United in the semi final of the aforementioned Club World Championship qualifying series and is also the only Mariners player to have netted a hat-trick in a competitive fixture, a feat that he has achieved on two occasions.

Similarly, Clark netted the Mariners first ever goal in a trial match fixture against Spirit FC at Christie Park in March 2005, some two months out from the Mariners first ever competitive fixture.

"Were now less than a month away from the Hyundai A-League kick off and Im satisfied with where we are at in terms of our recruitments and retentions with an aim to emulating and improving upon our achievements from season three," said Gorman.

"Todays re-signings of Andrew and Nik is another significant step forward and Im certain that when we line up against the Newcastle Jets at EnergyAustralia Stadium on 15 August, well be represented by a line up as strong as has ever been put together by the yellow and navy of the Mariners."

The Mariners 2008 Pre-Season Cup campaign continues at Brisbanes Perry Park against the Queensland Roar next Sunday, 3 August. Kick off is at 3pm.

The Mariners next scheduled fixture at their Bluetongue Stadium home is against Sydney FC for their opening home match of the Hyundai A-League 2008/09 season on Saturday, 23 August. Kick off is at 7pm.

Tickets for this fixture will go on sale through Ticketek in early August.

Mariners Memberships for the Hyundai A-League 2008/09 season are now on sale at www.ccmariners.com.au.

I thought he was superb yesterday and after a few games to find his feet, he will be a class act for this club. If you remember, Mile started slowly but once he got going............

Good news ........... Nik is still the nest striker in the league if his knee holds out, and Clarky well iron man not the best player we have ever had. But his heart and soul bleed yellow and he seems a real decent bloke to boot. Good move IMO.

That is no help at all!

Is it Bow (as in tie) or Bow (as opposed to stern)?

"Beau" or "Bough" would have helped more.

(Edit: BTW at first I thought it would be "Bo-Yitch", but now i haven't got a clue)

Hi Guys

I'm a Northampton Town fan (Pedj's previous club in England).

Heard about Pedj signing for you guys today, so thought i'd check you out!!!

You will be pleased to know that you have now become my adopted Australian team!!!

Fingers crossed Pedj does well for you. I'm confident he will. He may not be the most naturally gifted footballer in the world, but he always gives 110% and scored some memorable goals for us (6 in a season when he was playing mainly in defence was pretty impressive).

I will keep an eye on the forums to track his progress.

Good luck for your new season!!!

P.S - The pronunciation is Bow-Itch (i'd actually write it as Boe-itch to make it a little clearer!)
