I reckon he will have a big season. He finally had the surgery, and if the docs say it is good to go for sure at the end of the proposed time, as they seem to be suggesting, than maybe the surgery will have been the right thing.

I hope he is here next season. Aloisi and Nik would scare defences of higher quality than a-league

if we had that we would have the best strike force in the A-league!  :piralaugh:
But of course that would only last as long as it takes nik to get injured, as undoubtedly he will.. so probly 3 or 4 rounds?

Mrdja, Sasho, Aloisi, Simon To choose from up front.
With Tommy P, G Owens, Kwasnik, T Owens?, Caceras? running our attacking midfield area.
Hutcho and Jedinak Holding down the centre expertly.
Osman and Heffo over lapping on the wings.
Boogs and Wilko keeping the centre back nice a tight.
Vukovic the most promising keeper in the country being our rock.

That team isn't unrealistic and if we get our wishes we will have success in Asia and be floating in a Mariners Wonderland.

Would like to see a under-20 right back come in next year too.

I think Caceras would be an exellent signing and one who has played very well all season.

Nik showed what he is capable of in his short time on the park and I hope he puts in the time at CC Lightning and comes back next season raring to go.

Is Aliosi staying???? He is keeping pretty quite about it untill the season finishes and makes me wonder when a few at ends of contracts have already been resigned. I'm hoping it's only sorting out Vidmar that's delaying confirmation and would be a great lose to see him go.

Gorman wants mrdja to re sign. Mrdja will be back in full training in 6 weeks.
Gorman seemed to be suggesting Mrdja has other offers, and is hoping for some loyalty from Nik

There is absolutely no doubt that Nik is a talented striker, to have a fully fit Mrdja, Aloisi (if he stays) and Petrovski would be mouth watering!  3 years of continuous knee problems though is a huge concern, football players with major knee issues usually only leads to 1 thing, on-going problems and early retirement.  The fear I have (like most) is that Nik will go elsewhere and bang in 10 goals next year, depending on his wage demands and availability of other strikers is he worth the risk of another year?

Given that gorman is wanting him. I would assume there is still reasonable cash there for nik. As well as the fact that gorman said basically that nik is potentially the best striker in the league.

Mrdja potentially is 1 of the best strikers in the league on his day........we'll all have to wait and see how the knee goes in the off season, if it's healed and he can manage a full season then I say give him 1 more year, we all know what he's capable of.

The good thing about Caceres is he's not affraid to have a go and run at defenders, he's also versatile and can operate down the left or right depending on where he's needed.  If there's 1 criticism I have it's that he can sometimes drift in and our of games, perhaps with the right manager and more game time that will change?

We don't know? The offer is on the table I think but both parties want to wait until the season is over.

If Aliosi goes ( don't like to even think about it but...) I guess we would have money for a marque player. I would assume Vidmar will be either retiring or offered a reduced contract.

Is their anyone that people would consider worthy and available? I'm struggling to think of anyone that would adequately replace our best striker.

Would be funny if we got Mario Jardel fit and turned him into a 20 goal a season scoring machine
that would piss of the jest

Anyone seen the 442 rumour mill.
There's one about Tony Vidmar linked to Adelaide
http://au.fourfourtwo.com/news/69251,tony-vidmar-signing-with-aufc.aspx
makes sense if his brother stays
but i wonder how much truth there is behind it

That would be their midfield sorted almost?

CAM:
Pondeljak (will be re-signed)
Ty Owens (U20)

RM:
Owens
Kwasnik

LM:
Hutchinson
Caceres

CDM:
Jedinak
Porter (more pure CM or RM)
McAndrew

So yeah they just work out their defence, and get another forward (Mrdja pending) and they're back at it again for next year.

They may look OS for that striker just quietly....

These guys seem to know what they are talking about most of the time. So just a bit of food for thought.

Talking of Nik. This paragraph on the clubs main board is interesting.

Striker Nik Mrdja, whose two goals from three starts early in the Hyundai A-League season earned him a Qantas Socceroo cap, will receive feedback from a knee specialist later this week, with the results expected to suggest the 27-year-old begin a seven week preliminary rehabilitation program.

Mrdja has been dogged by knee complaints since the inception of the Hyundai A-League, having made just 22 competitive appearances for the Mariners in such time and scoring ten goals throughout underlining his value at the highest level of domestic football in Australia.

Not something you would expect to see written about a player we dont want any more (I hope??) Pay as you play, big bonus's for goals and you never know, that heart muscle might just heal a bit?
