You can never trust fourfourtwo rumour mill but..........

As reported on the news today Tony Vidmar has done everything but put pen to paper for a one year deal with the Reds starting with the ACL, he has also been pencilled in as a defensive coach. This is a great signing for Adelaide. Having Sasa Ognenovski, who is soon to sign also, next to him at the back is a formidable backline and one that will not please oppositions.

Transfer activity in the off season could be very quiet

...Which is what I'd really like to see. Scout out the NSWPL, VPL and Q-League (the three best 2nd tier leagues in the country) for good young talent to bring through, with emphasis on young. See if there are any good academy prospects.

The basics of this team have a dynasty look about them, a steady program of recruiting no-fuss,  no-bullshit young players from within Australia will build on this strong base and cement our reputation as a good place for young kids to come and develop.

Id rather keep Heff at left back then move him into the midfield or forward because our defense atm is easily and consistently beaten by pacier forwards and attacking mids like Thompson, Griffiths, Rukavystya and Kruse being good recent examples. I would like to see someone like Caceres on our side except for the fact that he didnt get starts at Melbourne and it would be hard for him to dislodge Heff and Hutch from the starting lineup. I would rather a young left sided player to replace Brown although it is my understanding that left-sided players and left-footers are of a shortage in Australia.

All I can really think about as far as signatures go is Aloisi.

Im just as eager to hear that news as I am to hear that we are in the grand final.

My wife asked me what I wanted more, this years frisbee or the next two years with aloisi as marquee! (considering we are premiers, and going to Asia :pirashoot:) I would be happier to hear we have St John for the next 2 yrs... :eek:verhead:

I believe we have enough depth on the right side of midfield

not sure of that?  eg. Is Clark good for another year?  I know he's the coast's favorite son, but he's only got so many games left.

He's 4 years younger than Viddy and the same age as Ceccoli. I reckon he's got a bit left in him.

Clark ain't a right sided midfielder, he's a defender.  I was refering to Owens, Kwasnik, Porter, Osman if necessary? If we lose Gumps and Brown I'm sure Lawrie will look to bring at least 1 if not 2 more midfielders to the Coast who could play left or right.

Clark has 1 more year in him IMO, he's 1 of the fittest on the team, can play right or centre and has performed ok when needed.....he wouldn't be starting 11.....who else would you get for an average wages at RB as cover?

It's believeable given his brother is coach....I'm sure Tony would love to finish off his career in Adelaide......and to be honest if it happened I wouldn't be too upset, Viddie has played his best football and the HAL is only going to get tougher.

It would open the door for us to look for another defender, not too many of those coming off contract though.

Fantastic news about the boys signing up.

Also, wait till some more of the development squad come through.

Future looking v bright

Well with Porter no longer being counted as a U20 we are gonna have to sign one new U20 player assuming we keep Redmayne and McAndrew. So I wonder will Lawrie look to the development squad?

I'm sure he would.
Can you imagine Adelaide's defence next year with Viddy, Oga whats his name and checkers? and like you said.. who else do we have here to pick from.

Checkers is no certainty to stay there........Valkanis is getting over an injury, I imagine Costanzo will be re-signed? They would have plenty of depth at the back.

When does Cassio's contract expire and whats his likelyhood of staying there. Cant-standz-yo plays as a holding mid as well doesnt he?

he can do, not sure on Cassio I think he has 1 more year?

Sarkies contract is up this year too, what would people think of him? He's been linked to QLD as a possible club for next year?

so its gonna be quite competitive in defense for adelaide i couldnt imagine checkers staying there. I reckon he will go to either one of the new teams or maybe Perth

ummm...

a little less superstar mentality, a little more graft, and he could make a very handy left midfielder for us. problem is that he and heffernan couldn't really play on the same team.

heffernan's primary gift - the brilliant overlapping pace - means you would need a more defensively minded, narrow playing left midfield who can drop and cover easily (like hutch) or else you're going to have times where you've got both left-side players working their way back from the wrong end of the park and basically air traffic control waving breaks down our left flank. not a great look i suspect.

if we were to play a 3-5-2 and play heff wide and sarkies more centrally in a trio with hutchinson and jedinak (say, if tommy were to leave) then that would have a better look to it.

I would only look into Sarkies if Tommy were to leave and id personally try and move heaven and Earth to keep Tommy if I were Lawrie as Tommy is as good and as experienced playmaker that one could hope for in the league. His only shortcoming is that he does border on being injury prone

Good - I'd certainly hoped that would be the case!
