then someone like Sarkies, in the immediate future is probably as useful to us as a condom with holes in it IMO I reckon we should get a second attacking mid but we should focus on an under 20's player for that role that we can develop as Tommy's successor

Sarkies contract is up this year too, what would people think of him? He's been linked to QLD as a possible club for next year?

Ty Owens - been with us since V3 pre-season, trained with the guys nearly every week, attends all the games.......he'll fill that spot I reckon.  Grego says he got 10 times more potential than he had at that age (I think he's 17 now)

i worked with a guy who played with Greg Owens in the Newcastle Breakers youth teams and he told me that Ty has more potential than Greg did. He also said that Ty could do anything with a football. I think he would be our next U20 signing.

Just as a matter of interest, what is the minimum age to play in the a-league if there is one?
Subject to whatever FIFA regs there are I suppose it is the age that you can enter a contract of employment (you or parents or guardian).

What is his preferred position? attacking mid or striker?

Gorman wants mrdja to re sign. Mrdja will be back in full training in 6 weeks.
Gorman seemed to be suggesting Mrdja has other offers, and is hoping for some loyalty from Nik

There is absolutely no doubt that Nik is a talented striker, to have a fully fit Mrdja, Aloisi (if he stays) and Petrovski would be mouth watering!  3 years of continuous knee problems though is a huge concern, football players with major knee issues usually only leads to 1 thing, on-going problems and early retirement.  The fear I have (like most) is that Nik will go elsewhere and bang in 10 goals next year, depending on his wage demands and availability of other strikers is he worth the risk of another year?

Given that gorman is wanting him. I would assume there is still reasonable cash there for nik. As well as the fact that gorman said basically that nik is potentially the best striker in the league.

I'm slightly confident that we'll see Nik Mrdja here next year as long as he agrees the deal with CC Lightning and he comes through unscathed.

Very happy about Caceres if it's true. Have rated him quite highly for some time.

Knowing Nik, I reckon he will have a cracker of a season with CCL and then injure his knee in the first few games of next season and be out for the season, that is what im worried about. Im also worried that this talk about Nik could mean that we are not trying to keep Aloisi next season

Don't think it would be a problem IMO.

Aloisi and Mrdja up front next season. May as well put our name on the Toilet seat now.

That is a mouthwatering combination up front the only problem is, is that it will be Aloisi and Mrdja for 1 or 2 games and then Mrdja will be injured

That;s why we will have another two waiting for that moment. :D

*if* mrdja plays quite a few games for lightning at good pace and gets into a proper preseason with the mariners and works his arse off, then i reckon he'll be a goer.

that's a big *if*!

if he doesn't do these things, he won't be able to resurrect his career here or anywhere because if his body can't cope or he hasn't got the mentality to work through the hard preseason then he won't go and score goals anywhere other than maybe some park team.  his best chance to make a big go of it is with us. if i were him i'd angle for a one year deal on a reduced salary and see what i could make of it.

I reckon he will have a big season. He finally had the surgery, and if the docs say it is good to go for sure at the end of the proposed time, as they seem to be suggesting, than maybe the surgery will have been the right thing.

I hope he is here next season. Aloisi and Nik would scare defences of higher quality than a-league

Scumville contacts tell me that he is as good a junior as they have EVER seen. If he can make it, we could have a real star on our hands one day. Hope he plays for CC Lightning next season with Nik, Porter, McAndrew et al.
