Striker if we had listened to you over the last three seasons as to who we should get rid of, we would not have a squad. ;)

look here mate..... you saw the display last sat night....... apart from the goal keeper, Tommy, Jedi and  Gumprecht who would you retain?

even bloody aloisi had f**king air shots just outside the box.... and, our best striker, Nik Murdja #9 is a malingerer.... what f**king hope do we have winning either the premiership or the championship.

as Pete said in another post, there's some fishy issues at the club that distract the players.....

plenty of others have laid out who they'd retain and why - ursus is right, if we were to take your advice we'd have nobody.

oh, but i'm sure there'd be someone from the serie c2 whose cousin's best mate's bit on the side works in the ticket office at juve (and is therefore practically a superstar) who we should sign...

...and his little brother too. superstardom runs in the family, dontchyaknow? never mind the polio, these kids can move pretty quick in leg braces.

Dibo, I'm surprised you would say something as stupid as this !......  honestly...give yourself an upper cut.

i'm sadly not surprised as you'd say something as stupid as there was nobody you'd keep from saturday night's game. uppercut yourself, bucko.

Seriously, are we bagging out Aloisi?

Whats up with that, the guys has done wonders for us, been here half a season and scored more goals than most an a full. He is the most experienced, and talented striker in Aus at the moment,  end of story! Show some respect FFS! WE would be gutted if he doesnt sign with us next year.

Just shits me how people are so ready to rip shit up! If it wasnt for JA, we weould probably be sitting somewhere south of 5th place IMO...

I think we need to pick up another keeper, look what happen when Vukovic was off then suspended.

Sure Trott is a young player but so is Vukovic so saying 'we are thinking of the future' is a numb argument. He just seems to buckle under the pressure as we saw by letting 10 goals in two games.

Perhaps letting him go to a club that would use him more would be benefit him greatly as a player?

Dibo...I want Mariners to prosper. The supporters deserve a better standard of football... we've got a lot of cash from Turnbull.... let's use it and get a decent squad together...and as you sarcastically said, some young kids from Serie C2 would be appropriate.

Salary Cap.

ffs - you can have all the money in the world, but with a single marquee player system, only one player can get it. aloisi is the perfect person to be in that role at the moment - 6 goals in 11 matches and is one of the most marketable people in australian football.

there is a total of $1.9 million left over (i think you can fudge by offering another 25% in service agreements to bring it to $2.375 mill) to pay for all the other players. that's about $100k per year per player. your under 20s will be cheaper, experienced players will be more expensive. every dollar you pay to one player is a dollar you can't pay to another. it's nowhere near as simple as 'we've got lots of money so let's use it'.

the money is being used in the only way it really can to buy a better squad - in youth development. that's the only way to 'cheat' the salary cap and gain first access to good players, develop them yourself.

...and i'm far from convinced that using one of only 4 available spots for an overseas player on some kid from serie c2 is a more viable idea than nailing jelly to the wall, especially given queensland in particular are showing just how good young australian players can be.

Of all the players on Saturday, 1 who's effort and commitment cannot be faulted is JA.

Behind JA, Archie and that guy up the F3 who likes to play with mens balls, Mrdja is probably the best striker in the HAL.

If there is any chance we can get him fit and firing, we need to take it.

I would decide on who to keep from what I have seen over this season and previous seasons, taking into account, age, ability, keeness, commitment and how they fit into a team. Many of those things you cannot see from the stands.

It is something many on this forum do not understand.

We go through slumps in form, every team does. Look at Sydney, how many of their players would you have said were worth keeping through the first half of the season? I bet you would have picked Adelaide as the team to beat at the halfway mark.

As I stated elsewhere we have been playing cautiously while the teams we have been up against have had nothing to lose. Added to that the bounce of the ball and the bounce of the officials has been going against us. With teams being fairly even it does not take much to upset your rhythm.

Let's see what happens from here on in.

I am still optimistic.

VEry true Ursus. nicely put.

I also dont buy the whole "fishy Issues" at the club thing at all, it is simply a slump in form, with some really bad timing... :'(.
There are things to fix most certainly but we are still in it, especially the finals.

imo.... Mrdja is a better finisher than the 3 you list above.  JA, AT, and JG are more creative player tho.

and, yes Ursus...the true ability of a player can only be assessed at training by the coaches..past ability will not count for much when a coach has to pick the team for the next match..

Much can be changed for next season but we have limited options for the rest of this season and just need who we have to go the extra mile. I would like to see Simon and Gumps start, and alothough have been far from impressed with Vidmar this year think he would have something to prove before the season and possibly his career ends. Christ, with record crowds just waiting for something to go off about the boys need a real roasting from Mc Kinna to fire early and the backs need to fight for the ball beyond the average and at time completely lame efforts that I've seen in the last three home games. FIRE UP LADS!!!

Anyone have news on Mile?
If he goes to Bling it'll sting worse than battery acid on a papercut.

On the subject of Gumps, I really think it would be a mistake to let him go. I take on board the point made by...Ursus, I think, about there being things we may not see or be aware of from the stands. However, the more I look at our midfield, the more I worry about our ability to replace him properly. Mile & Hutch have been playing well, but the former has had to stand in at Centre half on more than one occasion. Hutch has had problems with injury and suspension, like any other player. Take either of those 2 out, and we're left a little threadbare.

I also think that people are rushing to write off Gumps too early. Without having definitive figures to hand, it seems to me that most of his appearances this season have come off the bench. People go on about how Kwasnik was "on fire" before his injury, and that he needs more time to get back to his best form....shouldn't we apply the same rule to a guy who has been one of the best servants the club has had?

And I don't think you can buy his finals experience. I think before last season he had appeared in something like 5/5 domestic grand finals (including preseason cups) for 3 different teams. If he was playing Rugby League or AFL he would have absolute legend status whereas we are not even sure if he will make our finals squad or get a contract renewal. I just don't understand it.
