Central Coast Mariners Squad for 2008/09 Season

Remember when all the focus at the end of last season and start of V3 was on Brazilian imports. How that has dried up and most coaches are looking else where now. Players like Lardel are responsible and the 2 out of 3 Brazilians who are cut from each team that brings them in. QLD have brought in Youth, which has been so successful that I cant see any new brazilians or imports playing in the HAL next season. Blood youth I say. It would be good to see the Mariners look for  an Asian midfielder and some African players. Just to bring in some flare and uncertainty for other teams. One can only dream.

If Ty Owens is as good as everyone says he is, then I'm worried he won't become our superstar as someone mentioned a few pages back.

What's that got to do with Ty Owens?

Bozanic was offered a contract with us but wanted to go to Europe, Reading made him an offer before we did but couldn't go due to his age (something to do with parents having to go too? I can't quite remember)

Yeah, what I am saying is if he is that good, perhaps the same thing could happen with Ty - an offer from Europe once he starts shining in the A-league before he can become our 'superstar'

But with that said... I guess the A-League will be good enough to stay in by the time that moment comes.

You dont know, Bozanic mightve been superb, I didnt see enough of him to make the judgement. If you remember correctly, the little s**t that plays for the scum couldnt find a job in Europe and he is still a "superstar" in Australia. Maybe if we sign Ty, he will be a good version of Holland

My understanding (and please correct me if I am wrong), but Olly never played in the HAL? only in the pre-season cup?

It was also my understanding that before he trained with us he was lined up to go and play for Reading but he was too young to go over there alone? Whilst he was over here he trained and played with the Mariners for a while.  CCM offered him a contract, basically advised stay here and get some first team experience or go over to England and float around in the reserve grade or lower divisions and he chose the UK.

The kid had great vision and a wonderful first touch, I hope he's not 1 of these talents who chooses Europe at an early age and becomes nothing. How is he doing over there anyway?

If Ty becomes the player we all hope he can (assuming he joins us), the difference is 1) his brother is in the same team and will guide him along, 2) Ty has been training with us for a long time, and 3) fingers crossed the youth league could be very close?

skillbeck, if you ever saw bozanic train by himself down at east gosford oval... u would know. haha.

as for holland... he is a wicked player. he wanted to play for us but lawrie couldnt guarantee him the game time that van egmond could... i guess that means our midfield is way better than newcastles. i reckon he will come back when the time is right... unless he makes it overseas

no, i dont think he ever played HAL DJ. the only comparison that i was trying to make between the two is that both are top young players... and that we need to try and secure him here rather than lose him to europe like ollie, and the players you mentioned who float around with little success.

i spoke to ollie a couple of weeks ago, he is doing well. scoring heaps of goals. they won the premiership in reserves last season and im assuming they are doing well this season. he played a few games for the first team in pre season and did really well and has sat on the bench a couple of times in the EPL i think. the club has him on some 'special' 2 year deal which is a development thing, and i guess they want to make sure he is ready before he takes on the EPL. they think he is an awesome player though.

3 good points u made regarding ty btw.

In spite of the vitriol against Holland I think you will find that the only reason he signed with the Jets was to follow an old coach from the NSWIS who is Assistant to GVE. Given his age it is probbaly an understandable decision.

Still hate the traitorous scum :pirate:

Yeh, you're probably right about the Ass. Coach thing... because he did play for NSWIS and he told me they played against Newcastle as a friendly while doing so (1-1).

You are also right about the decision. I highly doubt he would have got a call up for the Socceroos if he was sitting on the bench for the Mariners. I guess he just wants to play, and had to make a sacrifice to do so.

i've said it before in different threads, but i don't blame him at all for it.
rather i support him and i hope he does well at the jets, really improves and makes himself a good asset to football in australia.
just no more goals against the yellow and blue.

Of course someone who stated they were in the know posted that he would be back with us soon. I'm not convinced of that

Caceres Deal Set For Today

well we'll all know soon enough - I reckon he'll join, although Merrick is doing everything he can to keep him, will be interesting to see how much of an upgrade they may have offered?
