Why are people even suggesting of shipping Danny off o/s? I makes zero sense!!! Lets think about this for a moment... The best young keeper and shot stopper in Australia or a fat washed up has been with man cans who has not played a game since 2002...

I know, I know... Its a tough one!!!

Unless Bozza is planning on stopping the ball with his mouth piss him back off to the UK!!!

Because of the predicament we are in at the moment caused by Danny himself.

If he hadn't whacked Shields arm we wouldn't even be talking about this.

No I'm not saying that's what SHOULD happen but it's a scenario which MIGHT happen and if it did it would be his own fault.
TBH I think it would only be bringing forward the inevitable anyway.

was at training today and saw the entire goalkeeper workout

bozza still has a long way to go before he is up to a-league starting standard

if he plays this weekend don't expect a worldbeater

. can i ask for some specifics?

. slow, overweight, reading play, reflexes, what is the problem?

just was not diving quick enough - he was not getting shots the other two keepers were

WOW - things seem to have changed in the space of 5 days....

I thought he was setting the world alight etc etc ....

might have been an off day or might have been that training is getting harder for him and that he is more tired later in the session
mick, you have explained how he was on friday  when i went to watch him train at budgie

I dont know anyone who is laughing at us. I know people who are worried that he might just be able to get back 50% of his prior ability. That would make him the best keeper in the HAL by miles.

yep...I agree with Greenpoleffc......there are many comments on the Sydney site for example.....from people who think we are smart to do this.....eg "I wish he wasn't going up the freeway, I love Bozza and it makes me sad he's on another team."....."I would love to see this bloke at sydney fc. He is a true legend, apart from his drug habits."......"If it happens its a great bit of PR from Mariners.  Guaranteed to pack BTS.".......sure there are also lots about his old habits.......but no one is saying we are stupid for giving him a go.  we've got some good PR out of this regardless of whether Bozza does get a contract or not.

I watched the keepers on Friday. Danny was much better than Mark when working with the whole team. This could be a combination of factors from being out for a long time (which will come back to some extent with practice)- to Danny knowing what is likely to come from each of the players.

However, it was a different thing when the keepers were working with JC. Danny usually did the drill then Redmayne then Bosnich. The thing that got me was the number of clean catches from Mark where Danny seemed to parry more. The other thing was he caught it and also got his head behind the ball in case he dropped it.

Good thing was the second time through Danny caught more and tried to do the same thing. Mark's big problems in the drills were recovery after a save. JC was sending six balls on alternate sides of the sticks and I bet he felt every one of his years as he dragged himself up.

The only clown here is you for that statement.
We have trialled a bloke who without the infamous drug habits of the past, would be mentioned in the same sentence as all the top keepers today, and would still be in his prime. We are lucky Bozza chose us to resurrect his career. If he regains form and we sign him do not count out a transfer/move to a bigger O/S club, because he is that good and still would have 3 or 4 years left once the kilo's come off.

Apparently Bozza felt the training seesion on Friday. He was supposed to work with JC on Saturday Sunday and Monday. However he overdid it on Friday and only made it back on Monday.

As Mick said - there is a way to go.

I think you'll find he is supported because like all Cocaine addicts - he's cool.

Any man who was shagging a supermodel and once played the "you snort one line, I'll snort two" game to try and get himself off the charlie has done more with his life than any of us can ever imagine.

Bozza poised for showdown with Sydney

Sebastian Hassett
July 23, 2008

THE Central Coast Mariners are on the verge of giving former Socceroos goalkeeper Mark Bosnich his first competitive outing since 2003 in what is shaping as a blockbuster pre-season cup match against Sydney FC in Gosford on Sunday.

One week into a trial with the Mariners, Bosnich has made a big impression with some authoritative performances in training, added to an intense fitness regime that has seen him shed weight in his bid to win a permanent deal.

Mariners coach Lawrie McKinna admitted the 36-year-old was a "50-50 chance" to be signed as a short-term replacement during Danny Vukovic's five-week suspension from round three.

"We've not spoken about timelines [for signing], but if he needs to wait, I'm sure he will," McKinna said yesterday. "If he does sign for those five games, I think it would not only be a great signing for some of the younger players, but for Central Coast as a club and for the A-League as a whole."

McKinna is keen to start Bosnich against Sydney, but will wait until Friday before making a final decision.

"I've been thinking that if he's up for it, I'm thinking we should just chuck him in [from the start]," McKinna said. "But it could be an option to play him for a half or bring him on during the second half. There'd be nothing better than him coming on in front of the Sydney fans and watching 'The Cove' absolutely give it to him. He'd grow six inches taller. He'd love it."

Seemingly a lost cause just over a year ago, Bosnich is said to have turned his life around and has worked to patch up relations with his family in addition to getting his body back into shape.

The improvement in the former Manchester United, Aston Villa and Chelsea star has made a big impression on McKinna, who has given Bosnich a huge tick of approval by extending the custodian's initial two-week trial indefinitely.

"He's fitted in so well, and that's not just PR speak," McKinna said. "He's got some order and presence about him and the boys respect him, plus he's working really hard.

"He's surprised our goalkeeping coach John Crawley with what he could still do. He needs a lot of work, but his reflexes are still very sharp. He'll probably never quite get back to his absolute best, but he's certainly got the attitude and the hunger. He's not going to leave wondering if he didn't give his all, and it sets a good example for the others to see Mark Bosnich busting his arse."

While "Bozza" is famous for his confidence, McKinna revealed that swagger had given way to a man seeking redemption.

"He told me when he arrived at Man United and then Chelsea, because he was at the top of his game, he had no nerves, but when he came to train with us last Thursday it was like turning up to primary school on his first day," McKinna said. "But he fitted in so well. By the second day, when he went in to get his towel out of his bag, it was cut into 20 different pieces. John Hutchinson saw to that. It made him feel right at home."

Defenders Dean Heffernan and Alex Wilkinson are in doubt for the match after copping knocks in the Mariners' 1-0 defeat against Wellington Phoenix in New Zealand last weekend, while Mile Jedinak will miss the clash with a groin injury. However, Ahmad Elrich, sidelined last week with an ankle injury, will play.
