Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

Scottmac, just trialists id say. There are young blokes and trialists at almost every single mariners training session. Very rarely is it just our squad

Heff Backs Boisterous Bosnich

EXCLUSIVE Mark Bosnich resumes his bid for a Central Coast contract today with defender Dean Heffernan saying Bozza's communication skills will be a huge asset if he signs for the Mariners.
"Straight away, I felt like I had eyes in the back of my head," Heffernan told au.fourfourtwo.com of Bosnich's well-publicised first training session at Bluetongue last week.

"He's really vocal. Along with Vuka [Mariners keeper Danny Vukovic] they are both really vocal and motivating."

Bosnich immediately made a strong impression with his presence, an attribute Heffernan enjoyed.

"He's been around a long time, he's played at the biggest clubs in the worlds and the way he was talking and communicating with the boys was brilliant. It was great to have."

And the left-sided defender says "Bozza" can have the same impact as a John Aloisi or a Tony Vidmar.

"We've had a few ex-Socceroos come through the Mariners and I'm pretty sure Bozza will be the same," added the 28-year-old.

Bosnich will join the Mariners for training today following the side's 1-0 pre-season cup loss to Wellington in New Zealand on the weekend.

The former Villa, Chelsea and Manchester United keeper trained with the club's assistant goalkeeper coach while the club was in New Zealand and according to insiders, has continued to impress.

Heffernan too has looked the goods during the pre-season playing almost 80 minutes of the match against Phoenix before being substituted for Nick Mrdja on 78 minutes.

"I've been going for a couple of months now, building up day by day. I know it's a bit cliched but that's all I'm doing is taking it week by week. I can't be thinking of getting back into the Socceroos just yet."

Heffernan was called up to the full Australian squad last year for the Argentina friendly in Melbourne last September.

But a tragic broken leg during the 4-5 home loss to Sydney FC in late December scuppered his club and country ambitions.

"I might get a sniff again if I'm playing well in the first few rounds," 'Heff' suggests of his national team ambitions.

He might also get a sniff at another shot of European club football. Whispers around town suggest the athletic and free-scoring defender could end up in the Greek Super League next season.

But right now, 'Sonic' as he's also known, just wants some back to the future joy at the Mariners.

"Season one I was raw but I was always running. By season three I was a bit more experienced having played more. I want to get back to where I was in season one. I really want to push in defences in opposition teams.

"I've got that hunger back, I'm jumping out of my skin after being out injured. I was like that in season one."

As for his reputation as an unlikely source of goals - eight goals in season one - Heffernan, perhaps mindful of a bollocking from Bozza for attacking too much, is hopeful others can take that responsibility at Bluetongue next season.

"I'm a defender - I've got no target of goals. I love to score but in the end it's not my job. I've got to be up and down, get some crosses in but goals are the bonus."

And for Heffernan, Bosnich would be a bonus too.

Might be to early to jump to conclusions but hey why not be like everyone else here (after all thats the idea of the forum...)

BUT

To me it sounds like Bozza may be given a 12 month contract and they may ship Danny off to Sheffield? That way if Danny doesn't work out over there he can come back and Bozza can move on if he wants to? Thoughts?

How good is Sheff Utds Keeper?

Maybe we should ask would Danny rather sit on the bench in the UK or in AUS - its a hypothetical question but say Bozza is better than Danny..... Would DAnny be happy here as number 2? Would the Mariners ship him to Sheffield or even sell him O/S??? (maybe to recoup some money they spent on him?)

My concern is that I just can not see Danny biting his tongue this year and I feel he will be red carded - activating the remainder of his suspension....

tbh i dont think we will see anything if he goes to sheffield(except for them paying his wage) as we have the partnership deal with them and if we do it won't be a large amount

but i think the nature of our deal is that IF they want him they get first dibs

was at training today and saw the entire goalkeeper workout

bozza still has a long way to go before he is up to a-league starting standard

if he plays this weekend don't expect a worldbeater

might have been an off day or might have been that training is getting harder for him and that he is more tired later in the session

True - however the value that Bozza has is his mouth - He is commanding and to an extent thats what Sonic was saying in the 442 article
