Matty's touch used to be pretty woeful

it was less than amazing on Friday...

I chose against mentioning his recent relapse...

But _NOW_ you've brought it up... ;)

Not good.
Not good at all.

Personally I'd be bee lining to the shops to get myself a pair of those new "super dooper Nike, touch pad, control enhanced, peels apples, bakes bread booty things"  as fast as humanly possible.

I think its been awful all year. I was on the lounge calling him a donkey amongst other things for most of the game and then he pops up and scored that brave header to shut me up. Given his disjointed development I don't think he will ever have the best technique but brings other obvious qualities to the team.

I have a cousin currently playing for Tranmere Rovers in Englands 3rd tier who is fed up with the rain and cold of Englands north west and is keen to come to Oz to play.  Plagued by injuries which stopped his career hitting the heights predicted for him (he was England U16 captain and played England U21's as well) he's hoping the shorter Aussie season will help him.  I told him that it was unlikely we (the Mariners) would swap one injury ridden centre back (Doig) for another (my cousin - Marlon Broomes http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marlon_Broomes) and that he's probably left it a few seasons to late (he's 32 now)......but I would suss out the club about trials.

He's contracted to Tranmere until June, but can escape as soon as their season finishes.  Anyone know how I find out how to put him forward for a trial ?????

Cun tha laddie speek wif a scooottish accent?

nope......that would be silly....you can't have coloureds with scottish accents !!!!!
so I guess that rules him out with Lawrie (I've heard that even Doig, Travis and Crowell put on fake scottish accents when Lawrie is about)

According to the SMH, young Welsh guy is Jonathan Brown, 19 yrs old. Represented Wales at U21 lvl. Was with Cardiff City for a yr. Fast and a striker........ has impressed and may get a stint.

looks like we will be signing him until the end of the season

News on 442, daniel mcbreen signed for us for the start of next season 2 year deal

Not sure how he will fit in the team. Haven't we already got 2 tall strikers that don't score goals? 32 years of age as well... time will tell i guess, but it indicates that Mac and/or Disco are probably punted.

I can't see Dmac playing for the mariners again, barring an horrific injury toll over the next few months

Probably just waiting on his visa before making any announcements? Should be a decent signing.....

40 Apps and 5 goals..... he is not exactly a goal scoring machine. Regected by quite a few clubs, A major car crash.... Im not so sure ? Maybe he is more of an assists man....

Lawrie seems a pretty astute judge most of the time. Has made less blunders with signings than any other club. Which is fortunate with our more frugal resources. And look at Crowell, Weemc and Travis... he wouldn't be bringing this kid in for the rest of the season if he didn't have anything to offer.

And I think in terms of goal scoring record "19" is the key word here.  Obviously inexperienced, but pace and cannot be without skill - especially when you consider that Smeltz was not very successful at the same level this youngster was playing at... and how well other comparable players have crossed into the A league.

I'd say it's exciting and yet affordable. Which is very much how I view the McBreen signing...

He's been very unlucky not to score more - and goal scoring aside - his work off the ball and in general play has been second to perhaps only Ifil this season when it comes to forwards.

Been more consistent and effective than our strikers I feel in this regard. And would definitely help Matty shoulder the load and buy him more freedom - which would be a boon for him as not only as a Mariner - but personally as a developing striker in my opinion.

Mc Breen and Matty...
MASSIVE LOL
And teams didn't like playing us because we are so "Physical" before.

By f**k they're going to need some pretty serious centrebacks to deal with those two combined!!! Which must be what Lawrie is thinking.

I think this was the plan with D'mac, but it never eventuated and McBreen has played much better and more consistent football than D'Mac so far.... so...

Quality signing.

Be a decent ACL strike pairing I think also.

Now we just need to win the toilet seat ;)

Soooo

Danny
RB Wilko Doig LB (Lewis?)
Travis Wee Mac Crowell Hutch
McBreen Matty

Hope no one fancies trying to outmuscle us next season. Hard and can play a bit.

Good side shaping up for next season already.

had similar stats to travis in terms of appearances for the championship sides, if not better

LM has given him an extensive trial so must have seen something given the amount of triallists that have gone by the wayside

Brown seems to have a similar pedigree to Wee mac/Travis/Crowell and has youth on his side. I've got no doubt he'll be a success. Forward line of Mcbreen/Matty/Brown/Nik would do me. Kwassie still there as back up if needed though i prefer him in the mids.

the kid's only 19 as well. he's right at the start of his career. he's bound to have come off the bench a lot, so the goals to games could be quite deceptive.

even 25 appearances for welsh age group sides for a return of 2 goals doesn't bother me that much - it's wales FFS. they don't score very often!
