Michael Caine has said the Indian accent is very similar to the Welsh.....

Don't want to put the mockers on him but this guy looks like he could be another one of Lawries inspired signings (if he does). Has a pretty good CV for a young guy, LM must have some good contacts back in the UK. Quick, was Welsh 100m champion at 14.

"Bring him out let's have a look"

the thing i love about LM is that he always takes his time to find the right fit for the team

40 games 5 goals... I'm not getting too excited. Although his age is good.

Good to see we are looking to strengthen our striking stocks though heading into the transfer window!

5 OS spots

We have Doig and McGlinchey signed for next year as well as Travis and Crowell for the rest of  this season.

Is McGlinchey considered an o/s player? Do kiwi players fall into the overseas player bracket?

Well if he is a Kiwi - Hutch the Maltese international must be the other one  ;)

Good question. As to new young striker - pace is goooooooood. Winning Welsh 1oom at 14 is definitely fast... Want to be wrong, but have a great touch, or with pace like that he would not be coming over here.

That said, Matty's touch used to be pretty woeful, the idea of developing a young super fast  player is always an exciting prospect.

McGlinchey qualifies as a non overseas player as he is a NZ national. Born in NZ. Hutch was born in OZ and even though he plays for Malta he is an Australian foremost. Not a bad way to get around the system one thinks. Wellington are trying to do the same with Daniel etc.

Maybe we should get a Scottish translator for Wee Mac :) Lawrie can understand him, but how many of the others?
I heard him being interviewed a little while ago & could hardly understand a word he said, and I've got a Scottish father-in-law!

New Zealanders only dont count as foreign players for wellington.

Smeltz doesnt for GC because he became a naturalised aussie

Dual citizenship for Poms and kiwi's. He would still be able to play for them on Parents and Grandparents rule.

it was less than amazing on Friday...

I chose against mentioning his recent relapse...

But _NOW_ you've brought it up... ;)

Not good.
Not good at all.

Personally I'd be bee lining to the shops to get myself a pair of those new "super dooper Nike, touch pad, control enhanced, peels apples, bakes bread booty things"  as fast as humanly possible.

If Smeltz is naturalised, how can he still play for NZ?

The same reason Mcglinchey could have played for scotland. He has a scottish passport. You dont have to be a citizen of a country to play for them.

You can be dual citizens in alot of places.

I have a cousin currently playing for Tranmere Rovers in Englands 3rd tier who is fed up with the rain and cold of Englands north west and is keen to come to Oz to play.  Plagued by injuries which stopped his career hitting the heights predicted for him (he was England U16 captain and played England U21's as well) he's hoping the shorter Aussie season will help him.  I told him that it was unlikely we (the Mariners) would swap one injury ridden centre back (Doig) for another (my cousin - Marlon Broomes http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marlon_Broomes) and that he's probably left it a few seasons to late (he's 32 now)......but I would suss out the club about trials.

He's contracted to Tranmere until June, but can escape as soon as their season finishes.  Anyone know how I find out how to put him forward for a trial ?????
