Your forgetting one matty simon mate

Even still he was 22 - 23 when he was getting regular game time, he played 20 games in season 3 when he would have been 21 but most of them were 5 - 10 minutes here or there, its rare you are consider that young for a player in this day and age for a professional footballer,

In season 3 we did not have a youth team. Hence he was one of the youngest

Any idea who is off contract next year from other clubs?

Considering we are losing Boogs and maybe Heff I'd love LM make a play for Ljubo!!! Move Wilko to RB, Dapuzzo to LB we don't lose too much. A back 4 of wilko  Ljubo  Doig    Dapuzzo... Not too bad IMO

The way Ljubo looked completely disinterested for the Jets against Phoenix on the weeekend I wouldn't want him; the bloke's got no heart

The whole club is a shambles, no wonder he looks disinterested. I'd love it if he were a mariner. But if he is mates with josip he will probably end up there

Ljubo is one of the MOST LIKELY players to bring discontent to a team, and for one renowned for its great dressing room and spirit... NOT a good match.

There are others who can offer what Ljubo does without the baggage.

Well with Heff leaving confirmed, let the replacement LB speculation begin!

The ideal situation is someone to step up. These include D'appuzo and any of the youth boys. Also Pedj is an option but I think Lawrie likes him in midfield more.

The other option is to get someone in. Some players who fit the category:
Scott Jamieson
Josh McCloughan (no thanks)
Mitchell Prentice (not sure if he can play LB)
Anderson
Joshua Rose
Adam D'appuzo (no thanks)

I'd rather not use a foreign spot but we may have to due to the lack of quality LB's.

Dapuzzo played well when he had his one chance this year and had clearly grown as a player. Only young. So not sure why others seem so convinced he's not up yo it.

That said, where has he been playing for youth, games I've watched I seem to remember he was playing in more attacking roles.

Revising my thoughts so far, I would suggest:

2) Matt Crowell (Fgn) - Keep
#3) Shane Huke - Let go
#5) Brad Porter - retained
#6) David D'Appuzo (u21) - 1 more year
#7) John Hutchinson - keep
#8) Dean Heffernan - Gooooooone
#9) Nik Mrdja - no - let go regardless
#11) Dylan McAllister - release
#12) Matthew Lewis (u21) - retained i believe
#15) Andrew Clark - retire
#16) Nigel Boogard - gooooooone
#21) Ahmad Elrich - release
#22) Nicky Travis (Fgn) - keep x 11ty billion

Means we are looking for:

Midfielder - Nikas
Left Back - NFI
2x strikers - NFI
1x Right back - Sherlock
1x Centre back - NFI
1x AM - Brady?

Strikers is the area we are crying out for (even with our good goalscoring record)

From what you say you want to retain 2 foreign players plus Doig and McGlinchey. That leaves one spot for the foreign striker that we are supposedly chasing for next year.

You also want to lose both Dmac and Nik - by definition to be replaced by an Australian striker. I would keep my options open on Nik until I have seen him play a few more rounds - especially since good available Australian strikers aren't exactly growing on trees.

If Nik comes good the rest of this season, which despite criticisms, I still believe he is showing the signs of, then he may back up with another next year. If he can't prove his worth over the ten weeks... then, well... I think everyone knows he is fighting for any chance of a new contract.

. i wasn't sure on the number of foreign players allowed. is this 5 or 4+1?

He looks to be at his level in NYL and I think we have better DM's (Hutch,Crowell, Nikas).

. with regard to huke ... i thought he was one of our best in the acl. maybe more of an indicator of the monumental shitness of the team in the acl then? of course no disrespect to the quality of the kiddies team

I think we can cover Heff and Boogs from within the current squad and the yoof. I wouldn't be letting Huke go, he is a decent steady player and is still getting back to his best after injury. He is adaptable and can play in a few different pozzies. Elrich looks to be getting back to form & fitness. I have to disagree with most people on D-Mac and Nik, i'd be keeeping both for another season. My reasoning would be that unless you have big bucks to spend which we don't at this stage who are we going to get who will be better? I'd only get rid of one if we are bringing in a marquee striker. Agree that Clarky is probably ready to take on his fitness role full time. I think we have a decent squad and wholesale changes will only de-stabilize things. Biggest thing is keeping the likes of Travis, Wee Mac, Pedj, Crowell,Hutch,Wilko,Matty etc as they are the core of the side at the moment.I think in LM we have a coach who's the best in the A-league at building a well balanced squad so i'm not worried too much about next year.I had read that we are trialling a young Welsh guy, anyone heard anything about him?

According to the SMH, young Welsh guy is Jonathan Brown, 19 yrs old. Represented Wales at U21 lvl. Was with Cardiff City for a yr. Fast and a striker........ has impressed and may get a stint.
