Central Coast Mariners squad - 2010/2011 HAL season

If CCM didnot look after their youth players and promote/sign to longer agreements then CCM like any club will lose the players. And if we lose them internally(ALeague)then the supposed cream profits( the sale of players, as quoted by Macabe to the Sheffield Board) from the Mariners COE will be nil.
They(CCM) will not let the cream go (easily).

After tonight's effort I think we really need to move quickly to re-sign Heff, Crowell and  Travis.

I've heard rumours of Hutch to Heart - though I would love him to stay. He is approaching 30 and a Victorian boy - so may be some truth in the rumour.

Travis will be hard to re-sign, depending if he wants to return to England. Hope we can snap him up quickly cos other teams will be knocking on the door. Good sign to see him play 90 mins yesterday and in interviews Lawrie seem to rate him now.

Well considering he started the season on the bench, and until yesterday, hadn't played a full 90 mins (correct me if im wrong). He was also dropped last week, so what I meant was he didn't have a Hutcho, Matty, WeeMac, etc status with LM. He should now though.

Travis to be fair had been quite quiet the two previous weeks directly prior to be benched, and also Crowell was looking very strong.
It's a very competitive midfield, so I don't think the decision was made lightly, and since then he's been terrific and now deservedly will be starting.

Just as it should be. Earn your spot and fight to keep it.

The whole in hindsight look at Travis people, may be right, but they maybe wrong, sometimes its the fight for your spot that makes a player.

Re Travis leaving...

Personally I think Travis looks great and a couple of solid seasons with us would do him and his football quite well. The Aus game looks to be a good level for him to keep cutting his teeth on and developing his game with consistent first team football. + Great place to live...

Lewis sees six appeal in Mariners

Just days after making his Hyundai A-League starting debut, boom left midfielder Matthew Lewis has signed on for the yellow and navys tilt at the title in season six.

Lewis was rewarded with his first professional contract at the beginning of this season, after starring in the Mariners inaugural National Youth League campaign, and was named in Lawrie McKinnas starting eleven for the first time, in Saturdays 4-nil thrashing of defending double winner Melbourne Victory.

I was quite shocked (to be called up), but took it on board and I was really excited, said Lewis.

(My teammates) kept saying how nervous I was throughout the week, but I didnt mind, it was all good once the game started.

The 19-year-old Blacktown junior admitted to feeling the pressure ahead of his maiden start, but those nerves obviously evaporated quickly, as he went on to put in an impressive display on the left side of midfield.

I was pretty nervous to be honest, but once the game started all the nerves went away and I just played my game.

Once I got my first touch everything went out of my mind and all the nerves went away. I felt part of the team, it was good, said Lewis.

In fact, Lewis could well have marked his debut with a goal, had it not been for Victory custodian Glen Moss tipping a rasping volley over the bar shortly after half time, or a similarly impressive effort soon after narrowly clearing the crossbar.

I surprised myself with the volley!

It was good to have a couple of shots, I tried to be confident, and played my own game really, said Lewis.

Lewis becomes the third current squad members to sign on for the Hyundai A-League 2010/11 season, after Qantas Socceroo Matt Simon and former Kanwal junior and AIS product Brad Porter both committed to the yellow and navy beyond season five.

The one-year deal will keep Lewis at the club until at least the end of the 2010/11 campaign.

Its great news, I love it here, so its exciting I get to play another year here.

Its good that the gaffer has kept looking at me, and I just have to keep working hard now, and try to stay in the team, said Lewis.

Good work in resigning lewis, but lets hope he can actually get some game time over the next season and a half. Thats one thing that has disapointed me about lawrie he hasnt been too well with promoteing young players into the first team. The only real young players have been played regularly in the first team by lawrie (that i can think of) have been Danny, Boogs (allthough he had alot of injures/sickness in the first 2 seasons), Porter but he only really got a good run in the first team when he was over 20.

Lets hope Lewis can get more game time and turn into a real top level talent for us.

Your forgetting one matty simon mate

Even still he was 22 - 23 when he was getting regular game time, he played 20 games in season 3 when he would have been 21 but most of them were 5 - 10 minutes here or there, its rare you are consider that young for a player in this day and age for a professional footballer,

Why are we still advertising memberships? Are they priced for the remaining home games or full freight?

Because (whisper this) the Mariners are about to have a change of policy and start playing games on the Central Coast, at Bluetongue even...

And I'm pretty sure the package is for the remainder of the season

In season 3 he would have been 21 - he is only 23 now.
