Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

It only takes a few minutes, and joining will let you post your thoughts and opinions on all things Mariners, Football, and whatever else pops into your mind. If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

Arnie, you don't live here any more. Stay out of the pantry.

Central Coast Mariners wish to advise members, fans and media that the Club’s Head Coach Graham Arnold will travel to Asia this week with a view to joining a successful top-flight side.

Arnold’s ambition to coach abroad at the highest level possible is well documented, and with strong interest from a Club in one of Asia’s biggest leagues, the Mariners acknowledge that there is a strong probability Arnold has coached his final fixture for the 2013 Hyundai A-League Champions.

Should Arnold sign in Asia, current Central Coast Mariners Assistant Coach Phil Moss will be promoted to the role of Head Coach at the Mariners. At minimum, Moss will take charge of the Club’s first team training sessions while Arnold is abroad.

Central Coast Mariners Group General Manager, Mr Peter Turnbull, said that the Club has been working on a succession plan for Arnold’s eventual departure for some time.

“The success of our Club over the past three seasons under Graham Arnold and his staff always meant Graham would receive interest from rival Hyundai A-League and foreign Clubs,” Turnbull said.

“As such, we have been planning for the past 18 months for Phil (Moss) to take on the role of Head Coach of the Club upon Graham’s departure. Of course, Graham has been helping prepare Phil for the position."

“We will know for certain by no later than Sunday whether or not Graham has finalised a deal in Asia, and will notify our members, fans, and media of any updates as soon as possible."

Central Coast Mariners will make no further statements regarding Arnold’s potential departure until such time as the deal is finalised, or he returns to the Club to continue in the role of Head Coach.

Hardly. Players' and coaches' contracts are written with break clauses - in a given set of circumstances one or both parties are entitled to terminate the contract. In players' cases there is normally a transfer fee that triggers an escape clause, it seems in this case Arnie had a general 'get out' clause allowing him to take up top-flight overseas opportunities.

In the case of a club like ours where money is thin on the ground, that's worth something to an ambitious coach and we might not have had him extend his deal at all had that not been there. That would have likely meant no championship season.

Also Shanghai SIPG are hardly a "successful top flight side". My money is on somewhere in Korea or Japan.

Good luck to GA ... he stood beside the team and held it together in the dark days .... I am happy for him...

Feel sorry for the new coach ... I don't think the side is as strong as in the past and other sides have got better .... they are on a hiding to nothing ...

Funny that this should come up today. I was having lunch with a colleague whose daughter is friends with one of the kids of the coaching staff. It's a tenuous link, I know, but my colleague said that the only thing that kept Arnie at the Mariners this season was the chance to get the 'roos gig. Arnie thought it was painfully obvious that Holger wasn't going to last the distance.

Low and behold... I come home to be confronted with this news. I can only think that my colleague's info was on the money.

So, Ange gets the top job... now Arnie's outta here. Good luck to him. He doesn't owe us anything... I just wish the timing was different (like the year was 2016 :) )

Do we get much coin for this? Given the extra years signed...

As mentioned by Dibo, theres probably a get out clause where a foreign top flight club comes calling the Mariners won't stand in the way and terminate the contract.

We'll save a bit of money in not having to pay Arnie, he can't be the cheapest manager in the A-League, plus I reckon Mossy knows a thing or two. Arnie has built a good unit of coaches, plus the Lord Mayor could always come back...

A Golden Era comes to an end; thank you Graham Arnold for everything that you have done for our wonderful club. We are the Champions; you have nothing left to prove or achieve, I wish you well in the next phase of your coaching career.
I jut feel sorry for his family - nothing in Asia will match the beauty and life-style of the Central Coast :innocent:

This is why we have a succession plan, and I imagine that will continue with each new coach that comes in.

Good on GA, he's served the club well, brought us a Premiership and a Championship. Not quite there with the ACL but that's a big ask :D

Actually... Not as disappointed as I thought I'd be... I think Mossy has earned a try and tbh, I'm kind of extatic to see that we have a succession plan for this as well, considering how these sorts of things are usually followed by the usual suspects being bandied around.. I can't think of many things worse than Miron or GVE coming to the club.
To me, it shows that thought is indeed being put into the process with CCM and that, in an off itself, makes the club probably the most realist and professionally minded club in the league.
I have no idea what he'll be like as a coach, but from listening to him in interviews, reading his comments and watching him, I have no reason to believe that he won't perform...
Besides, he's about as close as we get to having a "home-grown" coach at this point I reckon... That's kind of cool too... ;)
