Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

We've overpaid, but it's better to overpay now (when he's proven in the HAL), than last year when there was a question mark.

The bit that really interests me is Cockerill's notion that TLF may be heading to CCM. *THAT* would be interesting.

For me Serious I guess it's really because we won the plate with him as our striker that I feel any gratitude and also because he seemed like a good man off the field too. He also I thought helped bolster our numbers and supporter base - But like you say, I guess that's still going to be coming up too short for a lot of people though and pretty sure I'm going to sit in the minority on this one  ;)

Re polite way to Piss off Dundee.
LOL, oh, I thought it was a polite way of saying, thanks for pissing off cause I actually think your doing us a favour  :innocent:
Excuse me sir. It,s Dundee UNITED.Calling me Dundee is like me calling you a Jet :naughty:

I know it,s off the subject but it was too serious to let it go through to the keeper! 8)

Hehe....you tell him matey - GO THE TANGERINES!!!!!!!

As for JA...well, players come and go all the time. It's a part of the game, especially with the salary cap in place.

All the same, it does make his words about enjoying being at the Mariners seem a bit hollow now.......

Also, with Aloisi & Vidmar off the payroll (and, yes, I am remembering the former was a marquee signing), there should be some money left to sign a quality replacement.

Actually the latter was a marquee signing. They were both outside the salary cap, though.

An injury replacement player's wages are not constrained by the salary cap. A loophole that the FFA were fine with us exploiting because it meant that a top player was repatriated.

A small section from this article:

http://news.smh.com.au/sydney-unveil-aloisi-bridge-colosimo/20080303-1wg9.html

He said watching over 80,000 people pack ANZ Stadium last November to watch Sydney against LA Galaxy spurred his decision to switch clubs.

"I wanted to be part of something big," Aloisi said.

Does he not realise that the LA Galaxy do not play in the A-League. Maybe he is confused with the Gold Coast Galaxy?
And Sydney are based at the SFS and sometimes struggle to fill it up.

fair call on overpaying - i agree, at least he's proven now.

i've already posted on how i think TLF would be a great signing for us, particularly with tommy and andre on the out. also, would you really want to foul him hard when you know there's a jedi on bodyguard duty?

I'm an idiot savant without the pesky savant bit
I'm more f'n annoyed about Tommy and Andre than about JA heading south......bottom line folks...this is his business and he has to go for the better deal....still gonna boo the f**ker though  ;)

Yep, fair points....posted that last one without proof reading.

As far as the Cockerill article is concerned, I really hope it's just paper talk. Sure, we could do with a bit more creativity, but an injury prone and lightweight player like Juninho is not the best use of resources, in my opinion.

. i don't know what the mariners were willing to offer, but the length of contract hasn't really been discussed. previously it was suggested that he would sign with sydney for 3 years

. certainly if we were only offering 1 year (+ AFCCL) he would have the right to equally question the mariners loyalty

. anyhow that sort of money would test anyones loyalty and using other players as an example of such loyalty when their earning potential is limited by the salary cap is a bit rich

. this is all my speculation on my part (with no basis in reality) but 2.8mill over 2 years is somewhat different to 1mill for a year (or two) and in theory he doesn't even need to move. it is a lot easier to show loyalty when the difference is 10-20k and accompanied with public anonomity - i am sure many have been in this sitaution themselves. the 'deal' for ja could be worth 3 times as much on this basis with the delta being in the millions

. i think he did a job for us when needed and with the bluetongue dollars from singo and subsequent sale to cca it probably cost us nothing and helped to get the plate

He needed to say something that was not related to money.

"I came here because it was the highest offer. I'm rich bitches."
It doesn't go down as well with the fans.

So he mentioned something Sydney FC fans could be proud of. That David Beckham has fans.. ??

Ah well maybe his personality wasn't the best fit for our 'small community' club. I however am not that bothered. It was nice to have him for a bit, but I'm not going to boo him any more than the other Sydney players. He has made his decision and we will get on just fine without him.

So he has 20 million in his bank, but he took the Sydney offer as its paying an extra $400,000 a year more than we are paying? He came and said he wanted to play in Asia, then Signs for Sydney who are not in Asia? He signed for us as he wanted a family club that was heading in the right direction, then signs for Sydney? Kemeny said $1 million was to much, then offers $1.4?

There is either something more to this that we are overlooking and I cant figure it out. Or he is a stupid stupid man.

TLF would be interesting because he'd (presumably) not be carrying an injury in to the club like he did with us.

But that said, he's still proven he's prone to be man-marked out of a game. I've no doubts that T-Mac on him for 90mins and he'd be done and dusted.

But if he's playing alongside Jedinak, and T-Mac is only with us, that leaves 6 (or more now!) clubs he can do damage with.

You are overlooking it.
It's called playing for Sydney FC.

. no he is obviously a very smart man

. he just signed a contract worth millions (may even extend his career) to add to those he has already accumulated

. he kept his employers and fans happy when he was part of the mariners by saying and doing the right things and now he is doing the same thing in sydney

. as for what sydney say .... well sometimes they don't even have their best interests in mind

I love the "holier than thou" mode some people go into when they talk about JA's decision. So what if he did it purely for financial gain??? You have absolutely NO idea about his personal financial position. Yes, he's earnt the big bucks in the past but for all we know he may have made some bad investments or he could've been donating a lot of it to a worthy cause. I love how we talk about how an extra $400K should be inconsequential to his decision and how he should be seeking the more sanctifying goals of trophies and playing in Asia.

Personally, I want to extend my thanks to him for what he did for us last season and I hope, in the fullness of time, he realises he's made the wrong decision to leave.

I'd prefer to hear him say it was all about the money than that Galaxy comment - he just sounds like a complete twat saying that, and I think the implications on that comment are a bit of a kick in the face the CCM.  It just sounds like he thinks he's too important for our little coastal town.

If he left for the money, that doesn't bother me - because it's a LOT of money.

He didn't perform for us as well as we all thought.  Still, he gave us some exciting moments - I'll never forget that feeling when I heard he was coming here :D

I find the "I wanted to be part of something big" comment a litle insulting. There is nothing bigger in Australian football than winning a Premiership and playing in a Grand Final. There is nothing bigger in Asian club football than the Champions League- a competition Sydney are not in. Does he really think a one off novelty game is bigger. Seems a strange comment to me.

What would u prefer him to have written for him to say???

"I am just a greedy bastard with no real loyalty to anyone but my bank balance. Lowy FC offerred me shitloads of $$$ and I took their hand off."

"I would also like to personally thank the Doctors at SFC who didnt notice my chronic knee injury that will flare up after 1 good knock and is why no Euro club would have anything to do with me (and is why I was so shite for the last 6/8 weeks of the season)"

Re: Juninho. he needs to get that shoulder fixed before anyone should sign him. It limits the number of games he'll play any one season, and lowers his worth to a club.

If it was fair enough for Greg Owens to be told to get the spur on his lower spine fixed before the Mariners would complete the deal, then it's fair enough for Juninho to get the shoulder surgery done instead of carrying the injury into yet another season.

Owens was getting needled for the 'hamstring' pain the spur was causing him for most of his last season in Adelaide. The spur was picked up in his medical for the Mariners contract I believe.

Re: Aloisi, Bridge and Colosimo. All heading for rep duties this coming season, and Brosque as well. How is the depth in the forward and midfield areas, after these guys head off for camp?

Also, no improvement in their defense line - and money's running out I guess under the salary cap. Sure plenty of stars, but when these guys take on Socceroo and/or Olyroo duties whose to cover them? State Leaguers who couldn't make a HAL club squad, and prepared to sign on for crumbs?
