Adelaide United have signed 20-year-old South Korean midfielder Shin In Sup to a two-year contract.

The Reds were impressed by Shin's performances in a two week trial which included a star performance in a pre-season win over Perth Glory last Friday night.

Coach Aurelio Vidmar spoke highly of the youngster in a club statement, as Shin became United's fifth foreign player the maximum quota  allowed under the A-League system.

"We're excited about Shin joining the club. Hes a great young kid, he's got fantastic potential and we saw that in the two weeks that he spent here and in the match against Perth last Friday, Vidmar said.

"This will be his first time in a professional environment and we believe he has what it takes to play and perform at this level."

Shin joins the Reds from Kunkuk University of South Korea's university league - a primary breeding ground for players to move into Korea's  K-League.

He will join fellow imports;  Brazilian trio Cassio, Alemao and Cristiano plus fellow new Reds signing, English born Ghanaian international Lloyd Owusu.

Shin on Foxsports just revealed when he was young he didn't have any balls

Phoenix request rejected

http://www.theworldgame.com.au/a-league/phoenix-request-rejected-206632

The A-League has knocked back a request from Wellington Phoenix to postpone their match against Adelaide United in September so New Zealand can play two trial matches for their forthcoming 2010 World Cup playoff.

This comes as a blow to New Zealand's chances of reaching the World Cup for the second time in their history.

Phoenix should have four starters and three men on the bench when the All Whites play Bahrain or Saudi Arabia away on October 10 and in Wellington on November 14 for a place in the finals in South Africa.

Captain Tim Brown, Tony Lochhead and Leo Bertos started all three matches for the Kiwis in the recent Confederations Cup while Dave Mulligan and Ben Sigmund started one match and Jeremy Christie started one match and came on as a substitute in the other two.

Ricki Herbert, who doubles as New Zealand and Phoenix coach, has arranged two crucial trial matches in Amman against Asian champions Iraq and Jordan on September 5 and 9, which both fall on FIFA dates.

Phoenix have a Round 5 league date with the Reds at Westpac Stadium on September 4 and have tried to get the date changed but the game will now go ahead as scheduled.

A postponement would have caused too much disruption to the competition," A-League chief Archie Fraser said.

New Zealand are expected to go ahead with their two trial matches in Amman and at this stage it is unclear what team Phoenix will field against the Reds.

Herbert, depending on how Phoenix start their league campaign, could take his international players to Amman because the club would have no right to stop them from going anyway.

He might also have to look into the possibility of letting some or all of his internationals play against Adelaide on September 4 and and fly them to Amman for the second New Zealand trial on September 9.

Wellington have signed Paul Ifill, 29 years old old and former Millwall and Crystal Palace player.

Good player, I saw him a couple of times when he was a youngster, had plenty of pace.  Played a lot of his career on the wing.

Great boost for Nix. They will be competitive again this season and this man provides pace which they have lacked over the last 2 seasons from midfield. It may also release Bertos more forward to show his skill or on the ball.

EXCLUSIVE: North Queensland Fury have signed defender Karl Dodd with the player to be unveilled in Townsville over the next few days.
Dodd, 28, clinched the deal with an eye-catching performance on the weekend in a 1-0 friendly win over Brisbane Roar.

The player is a former Roar defender who spent time with Wellington Phoenix before being released by the New Zealand club at the end of last season.

Dodd played with Sydney United in the NSW Premier League during the off-season.

The signing is timely given the struggling Fury will lose Scottish defender Scott Wilson with a foot injury. He is in doubt for the start of the A-League on August 8 against Sydney FC in Townsville.

Adelaide United close to signing Socceroo defender Adrian Madaschi

    By Val Migliaccio
    July 28, 2009

Socceroos stopper Adrian Madaschi is tipped to become Adelaide United's latest signing before the season kicks off on August 7.
The defender, 27, is set to answer an SOS from coach Aurelio Vidmar.

Vidmar confirmed he had been talking to Madaschi and another defensive target.

"At the moment nothing is signed. We're in that process with certainly two (defenders)," Vidmar said.

Perth-born Madaschi returned to Italy about two weeks ago and was unavailable for comment on Monday night.

Madaschi's resume is impressive and he is expected to sign a $270,000-a-season two-year deal.

The defender has played most of his senior football in Italy with Serie A club Atlanta Bergamo, Monza, Spezia, Grosseto, Pistoiese and recently Serie C1 club Portogruaro-Summaga.

He also had stints in Scotland with Dundee and Partick Thistle.

Vidmar has been hunting for a stopper to bolster United's defensive stocks since Sasa Ognenovski was traded to Seongnam Ilhwa in January

Fury aiming to seal Stefanutto deal in time to face Sydney

Michael Cockerill

August 5, 2009

NORTH Queensland Fury are set to receive a major boost on the eve of their debut season by signing a naming rights sponsor, and the good news could continue with Socceroos defender Shane Stefanutto linked to a surprise move to the A-League newcomers in time to make a shock debut in Saturday nights match against Sydney FC.

Off the field, the club is poised to unveil Queensland Nickel as its major sponsor in a deal believed to be worth $500,000, while separate deals for sleeve and shorts sponsorships, worth about $250,000, are also close to completion. Ironically Queensland Nickels Yabulu refinery was recently acquired by mining magnate Clive Palmer, who owns rival A-League newcomers Gold Coast United.

Meanwhile, the Fury are believed to be close to completing a deal for Stefanutto, who grew up in Cairns and is available on a free transfer following the recent financial meltdown of his Norwegian club, Lyn Oslo.

Stefanutto, 29, was yesterday left out of the Socceroos squad for next weeks game against Ireland, with coach Pim Verbeek evasive about the reason for his omission, telling reporters: Shane is playing a lot of games at the moment, so I leave him where he is.

However its understood Stefanutto is on his way back to Australia and could be confirmed as the Furys latest signing as early as tomorrow and rushed straight into the team to play the Sky Blues.

North Queensland are hoping for a 15,000-strong crowd for their first-ever competitive match in Townsville, with marquee star Robbie Fowler declaring he is ready to go the full 90 minutes.

Very Marineresque arent they.

I think Fury might be a bit more competitive than everyone thinks........
I am starting to think that as well. This season will be so close and strong signings like this can turn the fortunes of the club around. Goals will be the key to Fury this season.
