You can afford to pay more when you run a very thin squad which the Glory are doing.Less players more money to spend on the players you are chasing, obviously they have money unlike some clubs

Wow, that's coming from the outfield ..... can't see Fury letting him go this close to the start of the season. Maybe RF just doesn't like Townsville. It's a bit hard to fathom why Liverpool would want to have back a 34 year old who is injured ... unless he wants to go home.

Robbie Fowler is being lined up for a dramatic return to Merseyside before the new season starts by his former Liverpool team-mate John Barnes.

Fowler, 34, became North Queensland Fury's marquee signing in February and is due to make his Australian debut later this month but it could prove a brief stay after Barnes, now manager of League One side Tranmere Rovers, made his bold move.

Not Liverpool. ;)

Thanks Brennan, had a brain snap ... if there was an emoticon for a slap on the forehead, I would put it in.

Tranmere's just across the river from Liverpool so it's close enough. You're mistake was not worth pointing out, not worth apologising for and definitely not worth defending by saying they're "just across the river from Liverpool so it's close enough".  ;)

Thanks Atomic... although I feel a bit sheepish. I just posted a new thread in other stuff which by no means refers to you!!

"I don't know where it's come from," Fowler said of a British on-line newspaper report that suggested he'd be returning to the UK to play under former Liverpool team-mate John Barnes.

"It looks like somebody's put two and two together and come up with six.

"I've got a two-year contract with North Queensland Fury and I'm a man of my word - I'll play it out.

"I wouldn't want anyone to do that sort of thing to me (renege of a contract) and I certainly wouldn't do it anyone.

"There's nothing to this. My family has just arrived and they wouldn't have travelled all this way if I had any intention to leave."

Fury coach Ian Ferguson said he had spoken to Fowler at length about the newspaper report.

"Robbie's happy here and he wants to play football for Fury," Ferguson said.

"There's no doubt he's the sort of player other clubs would be interested in but John Barnes would have had to come through Fury if he was interested in Robbie and that hasn't happened.

"Robbie is under contract to us for two years and it would be a breach of FIFA regulations for another club approached him.

"There's no one quoted in the story and it just isn't right.

"When you've got a world class player in your team there's always going to be speculation about him going to other clubs."

Former teenage prodigy David Williams plans to kick-start his stuttering career with North Queensland Fury, signing a one-season loan deal from Danish club Brondby.

Williams was on Monday on his way to Perth to link with his new teammates in Western Australia for matches against Barclays Premier League side Wolverhampton Wanderers and Perth Glory.

Provided he passes his medical, the 21-year-old Brisbane product could line up in attack alongside former Liverpool star Robbie Fowler - whose own fitness remains in doubt - against Wolves at Members Equity Stadium Wednesday night.

Williams, who has one Socceroo cap, is desperate for regular football after falling out of favour with Brondby coach Kent Nielsen.

"I'm in a difficult situation," WIlliams told bold.dk, a Danish football website.

"I have to play football. I have not developed in the last six months."

Only last week he trialled with South African club Bidvest Wits. However, it's understood representatives of Williams felt he would better to re-establish his career in Australia.

It will be Williams's second A-League stint, with the striker having played two games for the then Queensland Roar in 2006 before moving to Brondby, where he has a contract until 2011.

good signing for NQ Fury
personally I hate the guy, but still I have to admit good signing (well rather an improvement on their current squad)

personally as in
my personal opinion
I dont expect anyone here to hate him
Was absolutely disgusted and appalled by his time wasting tactics during game vs iraq at BT
It left a lasting impression on me
I hurled abuse at him in my socceroos jersey, something I have never done before and probably wont
But I dont expect anyone here to echo my thoughts on this one. And I wouldnt be suprised if some thought I was a bit over the top over the timewasting incident
So 'personally' am satisfied with my wording!

whatever. williams was doing what he could to get us to the olympics. i don't recall him doing anything particularly outrageous.

and it wasn't a socceroos jersey, it was an olyroos jersey.

exactly. I honestly dont think one person (apart from radinho who was sitting next to me, and was probably angrier than me :p) will echo my thoughts...and i dont care, just my personal opinion.

no problem, it's the internet - completely irrational behaviour isn't just allowed, it's expected. it's like a costume party, but if you don't have a neurosis you have to pick one up at the door.
