A-League Transfers and Rumours

Gold Coast United's Brazilian midfielder Robson may be joined at the club by his brother as Miron Bleiberg looks for a replacement for the injured Jefferson.
Jefferson faces several months on the sidelines after injuring his knee in training, and Bleiberg will look at Anderson Alves da Silva, who is Robson's older brother, as a potential short-term replacement.

"I watched him (Anderson) play when I was in Brazil, but at that time I had no room to bring another visa player," said Bleiberg.

"With Jefferson now injured we can bring him over as injury cover. He's a well-credentialed player having played for the Brazilian Under 17 team like his brother, and also the Under 20 side."

Anderson, who spent four years with Flamengo, will join up with the new A-League club in Singapore during United's tour of Asia next week.

The 26-year-old played at the 1999 FIFA Under 17 World Championships in New Zealand and also at the 2001 Under 20 World Cup Finals.

"He actually played in the final of the 1999 FIFA Under 17 World Championships in New Zealand when Australia were the opponents, the same game that (new Gold Coast United goalkeeper) Jess Vanstrattan took part in," Bleiberg said.

"He will come to us on a short-term contract and the likelihood is that he will meet up with us in Singapore or Hong Kong next week and then come back to Australia with us."

Adelaide United have signed 20-year-old South Korean midfielder Shin In Sup to a two-year contract.

The Reds were impressed by Shin's performances in a two week trial which included a star performance in a pre-season win over Perth Glory last Friday night.

Coach Aurelio Vidmar spoke highly of the youngster in a club statement, as Shin became United's fifth foreign player the maximum quota  allowed under the A-League system.

"We're excited about Shin joining the club. Hes a great young kid, he's got fantastic potential and we saw that in the two weeks that he spent here and in the match against Perth last Friday, Vidmar said.

"This will be his first time in a professional environment and we believe he has what it takes to play and perform at this level."

Shin joins the Reds from Kunkuk University of South Korea's university league - a primary breeding ground for players to move into Korea's  K-League.

He will join fellow imports;  Brazilian trio Cassio, Alemao and Cristiano plus fellow new Reds signing, English born Ghanaian international Lloyd Owusu.

Master predator Henrik Larsson is in discussions with cashed-up Gold Coast United for a nine-game guest stint in the A-League, which would see him net $100,000-a-match.

Damn! I remember saying on this forum yonks ago that it would be great to have Larsson as the Mariners' marquee player. I even emailed Mr Gorman personally about this, but never heard back ...

if we cant afford a regular marquee, then why would we get a guest player.

You actually expected the CEO to reply to every person that emails him with advise on how to run the club ...

NB: i'm not having a go at you, just putting my opinion forward
1) he is trying to build a brand
2) long term strategy (related to no1)
you know it is kinda hard to establish a new team in a comp that has been running for 4 seasons!
Now, I ofcourse doubt whether it will ever be financially viable, but hey if you have a spare million etc....why not? Palmer is kind of loaded :p

Are we allowed to market players that are playing at BT? EG. Come see Larsson or Fowler play?
I remember jumping at the chance to see Dwight Yorke...wow, to say I touched his hand, and got his sig (i think) :p
Also got to see him get Meggsy sent off :p
I would even be tempted to travel to Sydney/Newcastle to see the 'right' marquee/guest player play for/against them!
Aloisi, Griffo, Short Italian guy at Jets dont do it for me :p
Larsson maybe!

I remember the Romario game. Two observations:

1. The promotion worked.
2. We need a Brazilian in the team... I mean, did you see all of those pretty Brazilian ladies in the stands?   :vhappy:
