Brighton approach Sydney FC for Cole

Brighton are chasing Sydney FC midfielder Shannon Cole.

Cole is a loan target for Brighton, who have made an approach to Sydney about a deal to the end of the English season for the Australian.

With Sydney's season now over, Cole will be free to take up the offer

EXCLUSIVE: Simon Colosimo could be a K-League player within days with rumours the Sydney FC star is due to the leave Australia tomorrow (Tuesday) bound for South Korea.
The Socceroo, who played for the Sky Blues in their 4-0 win over the Jets, was watched by FC Seoul representatives over the weekend in the rout of the reigning premier.

However, Colosimo's agent Leo Karis tells au.fourfourtwo.com that the club interested in the elegant defender is a familiar name for Melbourne Victory fans.

"There has been interest from Chunnam Dragons, though we're a long way off a finalised deal."

The Dragons were in Melbourne Victory's ACL group stage in 2008.

The former Perth Glory captain has one more season left on his contract at Moore Park and so any potential club would need to agree on a fee with Sydney.

Colosimo has barely played for Sydney this season after an injury at the start of the season kept him out until this month.

Karis also denied the player was leaving town tomorrow but said the exodus of Aussie talent was likely to continue with the introduction of the 3+1 rule.

"I've been surprised with the amount of interest in Australian players. Obviously in leagues like the K-League, earnings potential is much greater.

"And I think the like of Jade [North] and Sasa [Ognenovski] will do very well. "

The 3+1 rule means an AFC player can move to another Asian league without being considered a visa player.

The agent said if there was an exodus of the cream of A-League talent, it would not put pressure on the FFA to speed up increases in the A-League salary cap. He says the gap in earnings is too wide right now.

"For players earning say $7-800,000 a year in the K-League or J-League, or even more, it would be a significant adjustment to the salary cap here.

"Anyway, you won't be able to stop these sorts of players going overseas."

Simple economics.

We have a salary cap +1 senior and 1 Junior marquee

Asian/Europen clubs dont

whilst ever we have a salary cap, this will continue to happen

Problem is without the cap we end up like Scotland.

Melbourne and Sydney and the rest.

We build a team for them to steal our best players when we look like challenging.

Sorry but I've got the shits about stuff like this atm.

i'm with ben buckley - we can't go trying to hold back the tide, nor can we afford to splash cash in an unsustainable way. clubs still aren't making profits (i'll wager the mariners finances are down on last year) and so we can't go competing directly with the top leagues in asia.

what buckley's not mentioning is that players who might be quite mediocre in our league make more money over there. the economies of football are different in the big asian leagues.

as we have started earning fees for these players too (no more david carneys to england for a used bus ticket and a half-eaten mars bar deals here) the clubs are now gaining a return for their investments in young players - mile and ruka are probably the best examples.

for all that, our survival and our future is already there in the form of the national youth league. having younger kids basically playing under better conditions than the NSL had (semi-pro, but with professional training setups and with the chance to progress directly to senior football) will accelerate the development of good players.

it's the conveyor belt that will deliver players to the seniors. the important thing for the economics of it all is that they're still cheap too - they don't chew up too much cap in their first or second year.

this isn't going to really come to fruition til after next season i suspect (it takes the league a little time to bed down and clubs need to bed down their youth programs) but in creating a market and a showcase for good young players it's benefiting both the players and the league as a whole.

between the youth spots providing cheap, good kids and the expansion of the league (and therefore an increase in games played and an expansion of the 'good money positions' on well over $100k on club rosters) this leaves money for more of the aussies playing in europe in third tier leagues to come home and less damage to national ambitions to those that do.

Also agree...

the up side to this ....and please don't blast me for giving the Jets a wrap.

However...they have made approx 2 million in player transfers this year. Probably the most successful club thus far to do so.

I can see the Parklea extentions already.

Better involve an extra large wooden spoon cabinet - got the feeling they're gonna need it.

Jets - Australia's New Zealand Knights

Doubtless Con will have invested money into the scum by way of loans and not equity.

That means that any $$ he makes from asset sales can be funelled back to him/his companies.

Add to that the troubled economic times and Hmmmmmmmmm is probably the best response

Saa Ognenovski - loss
Mile Jedinak - loss
Jade North - no loss on this season
Paul Agostino- retired
Michael Valkanis- retired
Mark Milligan - wasnt really here
Joel Giffiths - for scum loss
Emundo Zura - was import cant count as a loss
Jesper Hakansson - shit import
Nikita Rukavytsya - loss
James Holland - shit imo
Dino Djulbic - no loss at all. he just wanted to go home
Simon Colosimo - no loss on his 5 games this season

You could have thrown burns/djite etc. But i do not see it as a big problem. It is football. We just have to replace them with youth, as has been happening, or imports. The salary cap will rise as we can afford it, but will stay forever unless all clubs are bought by billionaires.

The 2nd list is a nix list it seems
