Fury raid Sydney FC stocks
14 November 2008 | 12:10 - AAP

New A-League club North Queensland Fury FC said on Friday it has signed Sydney FC trio Robbie Middleby, Jacob Timpano and Brendon Santalab for its inaugural season next year.

Head coach Ian Ferguson said defenders Middleby and Timpano and midfielder Santalab had all signed two-year contracts with the fledgling club.

"Coming on top of our previously announced signing of Socceroos defender Jade North, we now have the foundations of a very competitive squad," Ferguson said.

Middleby, a former Socceroo, is an A-League grand final winner with Sydney FC in 2005/06.

The additions of Fury and Gold Coast United will expand the A-League from eight to 10 teams next season.

No shocks there

Middleby on a 2 year deal  :piralaugh:

Timpano, how many games has he played?  For someone so young he certainly knows how to get injured.

Santalab, yeah ok not bad but perhaps inconsistent, wouldn't be on a huge wage you'd hope

Fred to Wellington as a guest player!

Didn't see that 1 coming, just the sort of player they have been crying out for, they will be dangerous now IMO

Middleby has some consistency.
Santalab was coming ona treat this season until he popped his shoulder, is he back already? Can go from being a dangerous player down the flanks, to absolute shite.
Timpano. So much promise but a lot of injuries. Sydney probably not willing to fork out in a competitive negotiation.

If Fury wanted Timpano, maybe Mrdja will head their way too!

Would be nice to see Mrdja at least stay for another season. Would rather see sasho go then Mrdja.

MLS in America is over, hence Becks looking to go to Inter on loan, similar thing for Fred, extra cash and game time for him. Can only be good for the league. They do say never look back however, so I just hope he is not a dud this time round.

Fred will give Smeltz exactly what he has been screaming for.....quality ball from midfield, so expect him to start scoring more goals and perhaps giving Matty Simon a run for his money at the top of the Ladder for top goal scorers.

Whats the go with Kwassie at the Nix?

Not sure but I wonder if he's questioning the move??
Regular game time over here, changes to nux expecting more game time but hasn't even made the squad the last few rounds.

With Elrich's injury, Kwas would have been a regular starter this season.

Whatever some people might think of him, you would play him before Ossie or Smitta wouldnt you?

Wonder if he will go to NQ?

Fred is at the Nix

WELLINGTON Phoenix have secured the services of former Melbourne Victory hero Fred as a guest player.
Fred will be eligible to play six matches for the Phoenix, starting with the Wellington clubs clash with Newcastle Jets at Westpac Stadium Sunday week.

The 29-year-old attacking midfielder was the driving force behind Melbourne Victorys championship-winning side in 2006/07, playing 20 matches and scoring four goals. He had a hand in five of the Victorys six goals in their 6-0 grand final win against Adelaide United in 2007.

Fred was was recently named at No 2 by Australian FourFourTwo on its list of the 20 best imports to have played in the competition to date.

Following his debut season in the Hyundai A-League, Fred signed with American Major League Soccer club DC United, where he continues to showcase his stellar talents.

Phoenix chairman and owner Terry Serepisos said the signing of Fred had reaffirmed the clubs bold ambitions and its growing ability to attract world-class players.

He said: Its confirmation that the Phoenix is here for the long haul. Given the professional approach we have taken from day one, the clubs profile and reputation continues to go from strength to strength internationally, and thats why we have been able to sign a player the likes of Fred.

We took our time to identify what type of player we required and to find a person who would be able to contribute. We believe Fred will prove invaluable in maintaining our good momentum throughout the middle and latter stages of this season.

Wellington Phoenix chief executive Tony Pignata said confirmation of Fred full name Helbert Frederico Carreiro da Silva as a guest player was a major coup for the New Zealand-based club.

He said: Terry led eight months of good discussions with DC United and Freds agent, Steve Panopoulos, and everyone involved is thrilled that its finally happening. Fred was sensational for Melbourne and it was unfortunate the he was lost to the A-League after just one season, so we at the Phoenix are grateful to DC United and Steve for helping to make this possible.

Its fantastic for the Phoenix and the competition in general to get a player of Freds calibre back, albeit for six games.

Fred is scheduled to arrive in Wellington on Monday and will begin training with his new teammates ahead of the match against Newcastle on Sunday, November 23. There will be added buzz when his former team, the Victory, takes on the Phoenix at Westpac Stadium the following Friday.

Freds final game for the Phoenix will be in round 17 against the Queensland Roar in Brisbane.

Phoenix head coach Ricki Herbert said Fred was an exciting and proven performer who would have no problems settling into the Phoenix set-up.

He said: He was a very, very good player in the A-League with the Victory and has the pedigree. Hes technically very good and can attack defenders at pace. Not only did does he score goals but hes often instrumental in creating them as he did in the 2007 grand final when he basically ran the show and destroyed Adelaide single-handedly.

Hell fit in well. Hes aware of the A-League and he knows what its like to live in this part of the world, so this wont be new for him.

Im looking forward to working with him.
