Not exactly a secret, been rumoured for a while now.

Nice day out at NSO, Rag and Famish pre game. Lovely.

Will be great for us to connect with the large number of members in the N Suburbs.

Says a great deal about how poorly Sydney have done with their license if we and the FFA think that Northern Sydney is up for grabs.

Expect masses of whining if its a home game but its an easy train rile and all be a great day out.

Can't wait

I'm an idiot savant without the pesky savant bit
North Sydney Oval for the Regional round ?....why not, its good as any and better than some...although I have to question which way they were holding the UBD up when they decided on the venue

Regional round..........
In a location that's 3.4km from the Sydney Harbour Bridge and in a Local Government Area that has a population density of over 4,000 people per square km.
Logic.

The point of going bush is to spread the word of our beautiful game and give the people who don't live in the major cities a chance to experience (what is the case with some) their only live professional sporting event of the year. It isn't to increase attendance.

If NS has such a good % of members, have an actual home game there. It's a lot closer than Canberra..

Tasmania - I expect the Mariners to do precisely nought towards Tasmania. That's Melbourne Victory's responsibility. And Heart's a lesser extent (Player in senior team, youth team and media manager are all Tasmanian)

. i thought the term was 'community round' i have heard that used often enough ... but that may be a little over-pedantic

. anyway we are the regional team ... so for us going to north sydney is like our royal easter show

. i reckon there is at least one thing in common with the games in canberra

Mariners to create history in North Sydney

Central Coast Mariners will play the first ever Hyundai A-League match at the iconic North Sydney Oval when the Club hosts Wellington Phoenix on Thursday 19 December.

The match is part of a festive football feast for the Mariners and is anticipated to attract a considerable crowd as fans prepare for the end of their work year.

Mariners’ officials today joined representatives from North Sydney Council, Northern Suburbs Football Association and Football Federation Australia (FFA) at North Sydney Oval to announce the match.

With one in five Mariners’ Members currently residing south of the Brooklyn Bridge, Central Coast Mariners Majority Owner, Mr Michael Charlesworth, said taking the game to North Sydney Oval in December underlines the Club’s intent to grow its solid supporter base in an area well known for its love of football.

“Football is the participation sport of choice in Sydney’s northern suburbs with tens of thousands of active male and female players,” Charlesworth said. “We want to connect emotionally with football fans who are not already aligned with the Mariners to build on the fantastic supporter base that is already alive in the area.

“Historically we have worked closely with Football Associations north of the Harbour Bridge and we will be re-energising these relationships over the coming months as we bid to engage North Shore locals with our Club prior to, during and following the game against the Phoenix.”

“With 20 per cent of our Members living in the Sydney’s northern suburbs we already regard the region as an extension of Mariner territory. We want to encourage even more supporters from the area to routinely make the short trip up the freeway to see our Champion team in action. To show them what we're about, we've decided to take a game to them."

Charlesworth explained that the Club will be assisting its Coast-based fans to make the trip south to North Sydney Oval on matchday by providing $10 return bus tickets to the game via local company Coastal Liner.

He added that Club Members would also be offered significantly discounted ticket prices for the encounter.

“We want our core fan base who live on the Coast to embrace this initiative and be part of an exclusive and distinctive chapter in our history,” Charlesworth continued.

“Their positivity about the Club and match will help influence football fans who live north of the Harbour Bridge to jump on board. Long term this will enable us to grow many aspects of the Club.”

Up to 60,000 people currently make the daily commute from the Central Coast to Sydney for work. Ordinarily, some Mariners supporters are not able to make a 7:30pm kick-off in Gosford due to travel times, however it is hoped many will choose to factor the fixture into their route home.

Tickets for the match between Central Coast Mariners and Wellington Phoenix are ON SALE NOW. Please visit www.Proticket.com.au to secure your place at the historic event.

They certainly seem to be picking up their act with regards to the fans, some good initiatives with the travel and also to make it the Thursday night game as well because this was a pretty low crowd from memory last year and Wellington ain't exactly a drawcard so it could work well.

Brookvale is harder to get to. My vote is to limit the "expansion" to NSO for the time being.

If we want to consider moving a home game to NSO in the future then it should be no later than Christmas. I believe from Christmas onwards we definitely need to make BT our fortress and not screw around with playing home games away.

Community round is played anywhere but at home (the clue is in the name folks).

NSO is a brilliant option or would people prefer it in bum f**k nowhere?

It's not a home game. We're listed first on the draw, but the 'community round' is just so that in the 27 games, each club has 13 home matches, 13 away matches and 1 community round.
I know it's not a home game. What I'm saying is that if they want to move home games to NSO i the future, my preference would be early in the season, not late in the season... that's all.

I reckon the game at NSO is going to be a success... so it's a fair bet that a game at NSO in the future will be a regular fixture, regardless of there being a community round or not.
