Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

Wonder if there's a chance of 'Arry coming in?
Highly doubt it, would have been mentioned in the press release if that was planned. John Hutchinson, Matt Nash Brice Johnson and Ben Cahn are hardly brimming with coaching experience so you would hope 'arry would step up his role a tad.

Maybe two Skype calls a week or is that too optimistic:p

Arthur Papas has done a coaching apprenticeship and a half. Coached Melbourne Heart youth, Newcastle Youth won the NPLV's coach of the year, coached India U23s, Goa FC and lastly knocked us out with a semi professional side. After coming back from India he rescued the Oakleigh Cannon's season and lost in extra time to Hume City in the FFA Cup. If anyone can turn us around with a limited budget and timeframe I think it's him.
Can't imagine getting rid of of TW and bringing in Papas ( who could yet develop into a decent coach). They must have an eye already on someone, at least I hope so because apart from getting fit with Bricey and basic coaching with Hutch and Nash.....we will not have much of a plan if we take 2 months to get a coach.

The new coach won't be able to change particularly much considering our squad is full and I highly doubt MC will want someone to start terminating contracts he has to pay for...

I really hope we don't go down that path again. It's not a bad squad, we can be competitive with a decent coach who can hopefully keep us on an upwards curve. We just need to keep improving.

Holy sheet! Did nay expect that.

Feel sorry for TW, he's a good guy who took a lot on the chin for the club.
But whilst I thought he had the potential to do better with a better squad etc. it has seemed like there have been some strange squad choices. For mine the killer was the lack of direct on-field management or tactical adjustments during games.

All the best Tony. I would have hoped the club kept you on in some capacity. They may still and it just hasn't been announced.

To the future - also hoping they have their eye on someone or are already in talks. The sooner the better too. And it can't be Hutch or someone with a record little better than TW, it really has to be a bold, strong and decisive coach with an eye on the longer term.

Wow. Interesting days.

Ex player, I guess would be a reasonably popular choice but really still a novice coach and a bit of a gamble.
This.
Like TW, only coached at youth level in SA and then Joeys, won the AFF U/16 last month.
He has the Joeys world cup qualifiers next month.
Great CV as a player though, known on the coast, popular with the football establishment.

Great contacts with best youth in the country, already said he's disappointed more kids don't get a go - could be perfect fit with our... economical... approach to recruitment. We've got 12 players who are 23 or younger - we could do worse!

Lets assume we get a decent replacement .... will make a difference to our season I think ... I think he got fired not so much the lost to GG but the manner of the lost...

I'm an idiot savant without the pesky savant bit
Fark moi, they actually flicked Walmsley, can't say I'm unhappy about it....so the big question is whose next for the gig, I hear a lot ppl saying Rudan should get a chance, dunno enough about his track record to say one way or other, I would think they would go with someone with H.A.L boss experience.

I thought that most of his contacts would be long term prospects given the Joeys are U/17 but the players he has worked with previously at Adelaide and SASI include Jacob Melling, Ben Garrucio, Stefan Mauk, Anwer Mabil, Jordan Elsey and ...........Paul Izzo.

IMO it will not be finding a new coach as a problem it will be finding a new coach willing to work if MC continues his weekly oversight.

That was sooner than I was anticipating . Good luck TW as much as I wasn't an advocate and was quite vocal on your removal, and the end of day these circumstances are never pretty when any human looses thier job .We need to be really diligent on who we get in next .

Good luck to him he was a very decent man and tried something and it did not quite work out but then again he had MC over him...

I do wish him well in his future ...

Bit surprised at the surprise. I thought it was coming. The GG loss could not be ignored or blamed elsewhere and it made his position all but untenable. Given the shit show he inherited, his youth record and clear good intentions and persona, I'd been one of the most forbearing when it came to TW. But you can't come off a season like that, recruit decently...but then get yourself outplayed and knocked out by an NPL side in your first competitive game in charge for the new season.

I thought that loss was inexcusable and his run on side and set up was bordering on the absurd. Most importantly, I think the players mindset after that loss and spooning last year (Especially when combined with the media narrative) was going to be an almost insurmountable problem.

He shot himself in the foot with that loss to GG, but I think he has done us a parting favour. We don't have a head coach, but half the other HAL teams don't have complete squads. All our players will be bonding, growing in their understanding of each other and getting fitter regardless. There is still enough time to transition smoothly and sort tactics and system etc if they can line the coach up inside the next fortnight. I think this should be achievable, because they would have to have had rocks in their head not to have already been looking at a plan B for TW in case he failed again. The fact that they pulled the pin now suggests to me it is in place.

The media narrative will be different. It's all about can someone bring us back to glory days, as opposed to prove they're not the worst coach the HAL has ever seen. Not something to be lightly discarded in it's effects on players performances.

The bogey man will have evaporated from the players minds, there will be some sadness, but also you'd expect acceptance and a bit of the excitement that comes with the beginning of something new. New possibilities with a few less doubts and demons floating about. The change is healthy.

Lastly, good for members whose resolve had given in under Tw's to be fair pretty considerable lash.

All the very best to TW, he seemed a lovely man, passionately devoted to the club, who gave us his all. He did not succeed, I think he was a bit naive and proved to be grossly over challenged in trying to tow that party line, but he was also brave, honest in his assessments, and contributed very positively to our youth.

Hope he lands on his feet.

Please no Vidmar, he is clueless and makes TW look like sir Alex. We need a tough uncompromising individual that csn bring consistancy week in week out. Pick an 11 and give them time to mould staying in familiar positions. Gombau would be great albeit unlikley. Mulvey good or DeMarigny for a no nonsense approach. Vidmar is not rated by those he has coached in the most part so he is unlikley to attracted any good youth.
