ccmfans.net is the Central Coast Mariners fan community, and was formed in 2004, so basically the beginning of time for the Mariners. Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

If you want to get rid of this message, simply click on Join Now or head over to https://www.ccmfans.net/community/register/ to join the community! It only takes a few minutes, and joining will let you post your thoughts and opinions on all things Mariners, Football, and whatever else pops into your mind. If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

Turbulence (then calm sailing, then turbulence) thread.

If true that MC is saying who should be in the run on squad as tis said in the podcast then Moss should quit otherwise his coaching career is over.

It'll be over if he quits too... The guy in the podcast sort of misses the point... It's not about gaining his respect, it's about gaining the respect of other clubs.
It's a lose-lose for Moss. Unless he can somehow turn it around, the best he can hope for is a Miron Bleiberg, a couple of commentator gigs on Fox and a spot coaching below the NPL...

Unfair for Moss. Has there ever been a coach who's been 100% successful from the first game in charge? Can't judge his whole coaching career on one club. Same for Aloisi.
The problem is a top division club is no place to learn how to coach. These guys should be cutting their teeth in the NPL.

Engagement is all the way down, despite having two home games in that time.

I suspect most of the "engagement" from last time was people complaining about having to buy tickets for the Adelaide match.

This.

It's hard to read anything into those numbers but just there for the curious I guess. "Engagement" includes comments both good and bad, and "enragement" ;)

Ahhh, my misconstruction of the posts. Marinermick, on SCFU, why doesn't he post on Mariner matters here? So mere Mariners fans like me can get the goss? :p

I was only new here when I last saw him on here I think, so I'm not really au-fait with it, but somethingsomething-argumentsoverrumoursandcredibility-insults-leftandnevercameback... I think... Dibo can probably give a better background than a mere mortal such as myself ;)

It seems like one of those things like the Marinators/Yellow Army/ccmfans.net splits.
I just went to games then, didn't really participate beyond that, so I was aware of the splits, but I never really found out what happened and I don't seem to ever have been able to get a full, direct answer to it.. Everyone seem to have their own version anyway ;)

Sorta out of left field but in keeping with the thread title...

Tis Ok to blame MC, club management, the guy in the smile pie shop, and the doorman at the CCLC, however nothing can hide how poor are crowds are matches against the Jerks and the Flying circus don't draw as many [away fans especially] ..

However 6 to 8 k after ten years and given our success..

I do wonder how long if crowds remain at a similar state how long FFA will stand by... we have time on our side given the two new sides are needed ...

Before everyone tells me our percentage to population and how poor our marketing has been under MC and the poor time slots... the league is growing its that simple we need to grow as well ...

I guess I am asking the question if crowds don't increase or fall further who would want to buy us from MC...

I have read figures between 9.5 & 11.9 K we need to break even, and that's without running a W-League team ... however there is the need to make some money so anyone looking would be saying or thinking 12.5 K is where they would like to be...

Rumble on and unsure were I am going with this .. but crowds are important and ours are heading south ...

Crowds per se aren't the issue. Sustainability is the issue. If you're a buyer, you buy the club with smaller crowds but no hole in the P&L.

If we were drawing in 10k at a time but losing a million dollars a year, we'd be in a worse position than if we were drawing in 8k at a time and breaking even. The break even number is dropping, and my understanding is that had we only spent the same on the football department this year as last we'd be close to breaking even on our present numbers. That suggests to me that we're far from an inexorable decline. If we last until the next TV deal (and I think it's pretty clear that we will) we're fine.

and I always wonder why clubs like ours don't get creative and branch out into other products but using the Mariners brand for additional revenue. maybe the license limits such things?

Not quite right we could cut cost to $ 10, 000.00 per year and play out of Plum Park...

There is a connect between what we should be and where we are ... My back of the envelope, picks a number out of thin air ... is around the 12.5 K plus... playing in a National Domestic Competition, that also competes in Asia and has international teams no team including the Nix can over time average under 10K year on year.

My belief is we should be at 12 to 12.5 plus within 5 years, especially given we have no other team to compete with... the challengers are many to get this figure. To accept below 10K because we can get by misses the point that as a club we have responsibilities to grow the game on the Coast and growing the game includes bums on seats and eyes on screens...

As an aside, if ridding the club of MC is desired, small crowds don't help ...

Why 12.5k? Are you trying to tell me that an owner who could get the club to break even and run sustainably on crowds of 8k in an A-League standard venue (that's part of the deal - FFA won't approve a move to Pluim so you can put that red herring back in the bin it belongs in) that we should go "no, the crowds aren't big enough" and hand the licence in?

You've got to be mad.
