ccmfans.net is the Central Coast Mariners fan community, and was formed in 2004, so basically the beginning of time for the Mariners. Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

If you want to get rid of this message, simply click on Join Now or head over to https://www.ccmfans.net/community/register/ to join the community! It only takes a few minutes, and joining will let you post your thoughts and opinions on all things Mariners, Football, and whatever else pops into your mind. If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

Turbulence (then calm sailing, then turbulence) thread.

Apparently Gosford City Council is in a bit of financial bother.
Apparently they have appointed a new Senior Executive (SE) from outside the district, not a local.
Apparently his/hers is a 3 year contract.
Apparently his/her brief is to improve the financial wellbeing within his/her contact term.
Apparently there will be quite a few sackings and redundancies in the next year or so among Council staff at all levels, excepting of course our duly elected representatives. More than 25% is the figure around.
Apparently the fairness of many of these dismissals will be challenged.
Apparently there will be more than a few unfair dismissal cases to enrich the pockets of the legal fraternity.
Apparently there will be quite a few work areas farmed out to subcontracting which may result in further staff shedding.
Apparently the debt recovery processes are an initiative of this SE.
Apparently (as mentioned elsewhere in these forums) the majority of our elected representatives are *not* Football fans but owe their allegiance to other code(s).
So, apparently, the Mariners can expect no sympathy and will have minimal support within that august city council body.
Apparently improving the financial wellbeing of Council is now placed above all other community concerns.
*All Apparently*
So apparently that may be why CCM is being forced to pay the outstanding monies as quickly as possible.

Great post and my info confirms people who have spoken to me, its like a determined push by some within council to make sure the stadium never falls into the control of the Mariners / Football.. they dream about a return of the CC Bears .. and the rumour is also about local fields as well and who gets funding... Some RL and maybe RU folk are feeling insure and they determined to maintain the status que, beyond this rumours continue about the CCLC which despite a public face also yearn for RL to return... all rumours but by reasonably well placed folk.

As to the new boss of bosses ... the council lost over 30 million in the WFC and there is huge pressure to merge with Wyong and if we are honest most of the growth is in the north ... If we are honest we should merge the councils. In the grand scheme of things we are way down the to do list of the new boss of bosses.

We need to accept that maybe MC is not the demon some have presented him as and between a zealot CEO and some strong regard action by some dinosaur RL folk we don't have the friends on council we had a few years ago and LM needs to play a hands off role given his past involvement with us. This is not to say we also have friends on council as well.

While this is just another challenge to overcome tis important we understand this is business and we have a owner who is overseas which makes the challenge just that little harder.

Sounds like a fantastic set of circumstances without much to corroborate them. And I mean fantastic in the literal, not figurative sense.

It might, but I have to say, I've heard a number of these types of stories too, over the last 5-or-so years, not so much directly about the politics, but about the struggles faced by some of the football clubs because the League clubs in particular, can afford to actually hire people to do lobbying and because they have a strong enough history here that many of the pollies have a history with League in some form, supposedly.
It ranges from arguments over access to fields through to funding access and general goodwill.
Whether it's true or not, I don't know, but I have to say that they have been persistent frustrations aired by several different reps that I have talked to over the years... Granted, it's all word of mouth stuff, but worth noting.
Once that's said, one of the bigger sponsors for "The Rams" is the Erina Leagues club. So who knows?
I have to say though, I recognise that it's the nature of the game, but if it's all true, it's frustrating if LM has to excuse himself because of his association of the others have similar connections.

Tldr: boring stuff about politicking ;-)

It would not surprise me if this had a lot of truth to it.

They can yearn all they want but NRL doesn't want them.
Do they still play RU.
Failure of the Mariners would scare off future investment by any of the above as the business model is just not cost effective.

Gallop ignored the CC as NRL CEO & CC have now gone from 1st in line to at least 3rd or 4th. If the NRL expand it will be in QLD not NSW.

As for collecting debts - That's just smart no matter what business you in. The Mariners are not a charity organisation of the council & therefore should pay there debts as any other business, rate payer etc. However the Mariners exposure of the coast should definately lend them to favourable deals but not for free unless stated at the time of the event.

I reckon there's some par-for-the-course football fans' paranoia built into all that. We're (collectively) so used to hearing about anti-football conspiracies and the like that we see it at every turn. It makes us look bitter and jaded.

It seems we're to busy cutting each others throats inside the football community on the coast to worry about what some pro league councilors think of us.

Central Coast/Northern Sydney

This is not exactly expansion but it may be the best option for the Mariners. Central Coast operates in the A-League's smallest market. There is no questioning the passion and commitment of Mariners fans, but for the club to be successful in the long term it may need to play more matches in northern Sydney to better capture football fans living between Gosford and Sydney's northern suburbs. The Hills Shire alone has a population of more than 170,000.

The problem will be a stadium equipped to host A-League matches. A revamped North Sydney Oval could be a solution, but the ideal scenario would be to have a purpose built ground in an area like Berowra – half an hour's drive from Gosford. That would, however, need significant investment.

The Mariners could still be based at their Tuggerah base but there appears to be a significant area that it cannot connect with unless it moves matches south.

Vitor Sobral is of the opinion the Mariners should play out of Berowra if they want to engage the North Sydney area.
The problem is that the area they are looking at is the home Sydney precinct of the Rah Rahs. I dunno where these people get these weird ideas that the Northern Suburbs would embrace the Mariners and football (soccer) I spent my young adulthood at Beecroft and it was RL or RU, mostly RU. And playing a couple or more games north of the harbour aint going to sway the population to our game. They'll only estrange the existing fans. Idiots!

I played 1 season for Berowra and there is 1 pitch on one oval. This SBS muppet must be on some heavy drugs.

I also doubt Gallop said a region needs 1 million people to support a team......otherwise we can forget about any expansion and get rid of Us, Scum and Wellington......really smart......more like the usual gibberish from the losers at SBS.

Also the story doesn't tell of the 2000 units within walking distance of the Stadium that are either approved or seeking approval by Gosford City Council in their B6 Enterprise corridor (from the race track to East Gosford)
and that this area is the focus of council and state goverment push in the local region . More housing close to facilities and a predicted 65000 more people for the Coast in the next 20 yrs. Remember the A-League is now 10yrs old, time goes quick.
