ccmfans.net is the Central Coast Mariners fan community, and was formed in 2004, so basically the beginning of time for the Mariners. Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

If you want to get rid of this message, simply click on Join Now or head over to https://www.ccmfans.net/community/register/ to join the community! It only takes a few minutes, and joining will let you post your thoughts and opinions on all things Mariners, Football, and whatever else pops into your mind. If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

Turbulence (then calm sailing, then turbulence) thread.

. apologies for the lateness everyone ... i have not had much time on-line (and that's likely to continue unfortunately) ... but i did write up something off-line - although it is getting a bit old now - if anyone is interested (regarding the focus groups):

OK, so I understand the discontent and concern about these focus groups but what exactly is the Club to do? They have held open forums before and hopefully they will continue to do so, but they can’t hold an open forum every time they want an opinion … at least they are trying to get some feedback.

There seems to be some concern that these random groups aren’t really random … but from what our mate told us they seem exactly that (he was only invited to one and attended) … and to be fair that is not a bad thing. If people are interested enough to attend then their opinions are valuable – it doesn’t matter if you are from the Yellow Army or post on here … in fact it may be better if you don’t.

I have been to four open fan forums (I don’t think there has been any more) … and that in itself is enough reason to look towards focus groups. Many people (myself included) are not comfortable speaking in front of a large group with a microphone … but in a small group, being asked specific questions people may be more likely to provide their views. Don’t forget Pokes also comes on here regularly asking for your opinions.

The open forums are typically dominated by people most comfortable in this environment and often, although they talk a lot, they don’t have a lot to say. So a lot of time is spent listening to self-proclaimed experts pursuing a particular issue or expressing a single view that may not be reflective of the masses. It actually discourages people from attending and/or expressing their own views … which makes it difficult for the Club to get real feedback.

By all means contact the Club and tell them what you think, their ‘lines are always open’. Hopefully they will continue with their open forums again as they have the last couple of years (EDIT: I believe the first one is scheduled for Monday week). But it is a difficult thing to get right.

I am not sure if it will continue but it appears the Supporters Club has had some representation at each of these focus groups, so there is another avenue for you to get involved. I don’t want this to sound like an advertisement [so mods please modify if you see fit] but it has taken a lot of effort to get a ‘seat at the table’ … the more people that get behind that, the more influence that can be exerted.

The Supporters Club actually grew out of the open fan forums so anybody and everybody had a chance to get involved … and I reckon it is a pretty random selection of fans as well. The Committee does have representatives from the Yellow Army but mostly it is just fans from around the ground … sadly (IMHO) there is little representation from the members on here – who it seems have good motives, good informed opinion … and it would seem in some cases, lots of time to share their passion.

Whinging and complaining on the internet is one thing … but maybe your energies could be more productively spent on getting involved rather than proclaiming you ‘deserve’ a seat at the table.

I also haven’t meant this post to be as argumentative as it probably comes across, so please don’t take offence … I am just trying to look at things from a different viewpoint.

This is a bit of a shame; not sure where you got the idea that the Central Coast Mariners Official Supporters Club would be discouraged from spruiking their ideas, events, and anything else, on a website for Central Coast Mariners Fans. The only advertising that is discouraged is for things like (in the extreme case of spam) cheap viagra pills/hand bags/sunnies/whatever crap that doesn't have a thing to do with football or the Coast.

If someone has a blog, another forum/website dedicated to the A-League, Mariners, Football in general, a business on the Coast where they want to reach potential customers... posts about them have not only been allowed, but actively encouraged, and will continue to be.

In the case of the CCMOSC I'm a bit puzzled why ccmfans hasn't been used at all to promote what the club has been doing throughout the season. CCMFans and the CCMOSC worked well together early in the season to bring a great pre-match function and "Retro Round", which was a huge success, and shows how well a little bit of collaboration can work.

This isn't meant as a dig at anyone; just that the idea of the Central Coast Mariners Official Supporters Club not being able to advertise on a Central Coast Mariners Fans website seems odd to me, and not sure where it came from.

I am all for the club gathering groups together and maybe they did [ I saw it but only once and sorta forgot] ... however they club needs to SCREAM YELL LOUDLY they are looking for looking for folk across a number of platforms and often... also be willing to hold lots of forums not just a few to enable as many as possible ...

Suggestion ... say first Tuesday [or something similar] of every month and change locations between the North & South & Centre ... by making it regular and on a easy to remember date the club could both get ideas and explain their plans ...

Not sure if this is the right spot to post this ...

Was at the Ettalong RSL to watch the Australia V SA farewell WC match... twas in their sports bar and they had South's & Cronulla playing as well... I counted 24 watching the RL and there were 3 of us watching the football match...

After the match finished 1 of the people that was watching the RL stayed and watched the Football...

Purely an observation ... however it does show IMO we still have as a code a long way to go to win over the CC...

Interesting Middy.

Also the Peninsula has a high percentage of Bogans and they tend to be more entrenched as RL supporters.

I think I get a lot more stick for liking "soccer" here in Victoria than I did when I lived in Kincumber/Sydney.

Not really was a nothing match with a team with not many draw card names for people not that interested.

Probably those same 24 there every week to watch the NRL but if it was a world cup game or qualifier there'd be plenty more there to watch the real football.

:naughty:HEY!!!! I was born & bred on the the peninsula & up until 9 months ago lived there so does that make me a bogan

The peninsula is woy woy, umina and ettalong etc.....not to be confused with the Silvertail peninsula on the Northern beaches of Sydney.

I lived at Nth Balgowlah, Manly, Curl Curl and Wheeler Heights until it was time to buy a house.....not having a lazy million I moved out of the area and am very grateful to have ended up on the Central Coast.

Sydney sucks balls but the Nth Beaches is the only place to live if you have to live in that City.

It's an interesting observation. It just goes to show that the as much as Charlesworth would like to believe, the "market" on the Central Coast isn't exhausted.
