Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

It only takes a few minutes, and joining will let you post your thoughts and opinions on all things Mariners, Football, and whatever else pops into your mind. If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

syd it's about doing whatever it takes . the a-league gave the clubs a 20 years licence .
lets make sure we keep ours . if we could get a 100 manly fans following to game .that's a winner

I would assume we already have 100 Manly fans in our supporter base. I see it not as a way to attract "fans" more an exercise in attracting corporate $$

We can assume he meant 100 additional fans...

Deep down in my heart I think if we had not received a licence at the start of Hal we would have Buckley's of getting it today... Beyond that if we are losing money and the crowd average needs to be !!!!! to have a competitive team... It becomes a question a hard nay difficult nay impossible decision making process.. Assume our current owner does not have limitless amounts to fund the club.. assume he is prepared to do his best within the resources he has... If it where me I would be hoping for community support, how I get this message out without putting people offside is HHHMMMMm !!!!! lets say hard...

At what point as an owner [who imo has done a lot for the club, the Band, The Cannon, hand out at match day, forums with fans] do you say ..... what I am not sure ... however at some point whether it's the council with stadium hirer fees or a general increase in support from the Coast the clear message is we are losing money and our owner does not have the funds to met that loss year on year... You could argue that is his fault for buying the club, but that changes little ... If he see's crowds fall, or not grow, stadium rental increase, .. My question is what would any of us do in this situation ...

It is easy to scream and shout from the sides, but how do you get the message out , I need help and the club needs help to stay ... very hard message to get out and sell .. I also look at US sports where it is common for the owner of a licence to move towns / cities ... would Canberra as a example be willing to have an A-League club and simply offer a reduced stadium hire and you would assume get bigger crowds ...

As an aside does anyone know if we spent the full salary cap, a Mariner fan told me yesterday we don't spent anywhere near it.. my understanding was we did..

. mossy has been quoted as saying 'we have no room in the cap' ... but i have asked on here in the past about the flores situation (part funded by melbourne) and also the guys injured or on loan - i don't know how that fits in

. the other thing is that the cap is met by the tv rights deal and the players are (apparently) paid direct by the ffa ... to avoid the 'no money to pay wages' situation we have found ourselves in, in the past

. i am unsure if we don't use all the cap if the ffa hands over the rest as a payment to the club ... but regardless i would think the most sensible thing would be to use all the cap (since someone else is paying) to get the best squad you can. the 'best squad you can' is your best chance of keeping performances and attendances up

Hit the nail.
A competitive team is vital, which we've had most years. Everybody loves a winner. If we become cellar dwellers you would expect falling attendances.
Not spending the full cap (if true) might be good business sense but it's not good football sense. It is a balancing act.
Clive Palmer is a good business man but had no idea how to run a football club. MC has to get the balance right or he'll shoot himself in the foot.

Midfielder - Has this already started to occur?

The brookvale article barely even gets a mention but NSO was shit storm.

Why the change?

Resigned to the fact it's going to happen?
Over it?
Realise it might not be that bad?
To depressed with current team results to notice?

How much of our system or current use of that system effects the people turning up. A few people have commented to me or my wife they don't attend because they are boring, they are shit etc. The very casual fan wants to win 3-0 every game. They all sort of still know whats going on but don't turn up.

After NYE game down at the forshore I heard a bloke say sounded good in there tonight (tempted his interest just by hearing the crowd).

After 8 years of purchasing Gold Membership the Mariners have seen the last of my money.

Maybe I could be considered a fairweather supporter, I would argue the point though, as I still manage to support Parramatta through two wooden spoons.

I can handle poor rosters and the team playing boring sub standard football, but I can't help but be dismayed by the overwhelming feeling of betrayal that i'm enveloped in from management.I recall reading just prior to the transfer window closing, how important fan response was to the club, that players would not be sold without due diligence and taking the whole picture into account. 24 hours later Sainsbury and McBreen were gone.

I have read we have to suck it up, that this is re-building year. What are we re-building towards? Another garage sale of any player that shows an inkling of promise. This is not the way to build a club and a loyal supporter base.

. i think people are over it ... but the unknown is the impact on crowds/members/commitment/general sentiment ... they will vote with their feet:
  • the club know the supporters were not happy about nso ... i can't see how brookvale would make them feel any different
  • the club maintain that nso was a financial success ... but we have seen nothing to back up that statement, nor do we know what 'cost' that one game may yet have
  • the club seem intent on trying to motivate gosford council to reduce the rent ... yet have shown nothing to indicate we pay anything more than the cheapest rent in the league. they have however effectively demonstrated that they don't know how they could do it better by withdrawing from the tender to run the stadium
. i am not doubting it is a delicate balance and the costs beyond what most of us could comprehend. showing real numbers is the only way people will know what is required and what compromises might be needed ... but that ain't gonna happen. so we can only make up our own minds and decide on what motivates us one way or the other

. of course it is the non-core where you will see the largest swing ... playing politics, motivated by money ... it can only be a good thing right?

Building maybe not, survival yes.

These I believe are unfortunate measures we are forced to do to survive until football in Aus and the central coast has enough public interest to generate a sustainable income from TV deals and commercial interest. Also out of our hands in a lot of ways in players signing short term contracts with aspirations of moving abroad.

As for Brookvale, to answer Big Als question im probably a bit resigned to it but not exactly happy. I may catch the coastliner to a game here and there but very doubtful I would be making the drive with the family very often. Anyway its all pissing into the wind at this stage in my opinion.

From what I read about Sainsbury and McBreen they both seemed to hold a gun to the head of the Mariners; Sainsbury was dying for a chance in Europe and wasn't going to miss his opportunity and McBreen apparently threatened to go on strike. The only surprise about Sainsbury going was it took so long.

I thought there was also a floor to the cap - that clubs could not deliberately spend below a certain amount to save costs. As for the FFA giving any unspent surplus to a club, I doubt that very much.

. if that is the case ... then we must spend every cent of the cap

. although i am not sure how the ffa can withhold anything we don't spend (surely each of the clubs are due their 'entitlement' from the tv rights deal) ... but perhaps it is their way of encouraging the spend - in the interests of the competition

smh.com.au/sport/soccer/central-coast-mariners-stay-put-but-eye-a-shift-south-after-upgrade-20140227-33mem.html

main points
"Central Coast Mariners' home will remain at
Bluetongue Stadium in Gosford next season,
though a partial relocation to Sydney's
northern suburbs remains a possibility in
future years, with a proposed upgrade of
North Sydney Oval gathering momentum.

...but early indications suggest that the major items will
be affordable under the condition that they
can host up to four Mariners home games per
season...

''From our point of view, the opportunities
and strength that comes from being in this
location [Gosford] is part of the DNA of the
club and we need to get our business model
right before we start deciding whether to
move town,'' Stalder said. ''I really like the
idea of playing one, two but never more than
three games away - for all clubs in the A-League....

Central Coast Mariners owner Mike
Charlesworth has publicly reiterated his plans
to make a strategic push into Sydney's
northern districts and also held discussions
with NRL club Manly regarding the possibility
of bringing one home game to Brookvale
Oval."

so this reads as anywhere between one and five HOME games to be played in nth syd in the near future. four sounds more likely than five but these things are often undersold when unpopular.
this is in the relatively short term. I could see more going over the years. unless it's not as successful as hoped.
I'm trying to accept what is best for the survival of the club but it's a hard pill to swallow when I can't be sure the won't be a full relocation in time still
