We were cheated in the QF's as opposed to just simply losing in the quarters (like we usually do).

Closest we have been since '66 is the semi's in 1990 - nearest to a Fulham player was Paul Parker who had (sadly for English football) moved to Manure by then, thereby invoking the "only win it with an FFC player" rule.

Still, a Chelsea player lost us the WC in 1970........Bonetti, one poor game, forever vilified.
Any FFC players in the side that lost the World Cup at Wembley in '67..... :headbounce:

England did better when Everton players play a prominent role- Ray Wilson, Brian Labone, Alan Ball, Trevor Steven and Gary Lineker all proof of it.

Maradona's goal was fantastic - showed how inept the English defense was - and his hand of God was good as well.......

Beating a then title-chasing Everton on the way to Wembley that year too :ashamed:

From TWG:
Sydney FC coach John Kosmina has conceded he was unsure if marquee striker John Aloi$i would ever play for the club again.

The Socceroos star, who has scored only two goals in a disappointing season, has a thigh injury that has forced him out of training for two weeks and will miss Sunday's clash with Wellington Phoenix at the Sydney Football Stadium.

Kosmina said after training Friday that he had no idea what Aloi$i's future with the club was.

"To be perfectly honest, you'd be lucky to see him play again this season," Kosmina declared, when asked about his marksman's condition.

"He's been out for two weeks and basically he's got at least a week and a half's work (before he can be considered for selection) and I don't think he's up to it yet."

The club says that it has a gentleman's agreement with Aloi$i whereby the player could leave the club before the termination of his two-year contract if either party is unhappy. However, this claim has been refuted by the player's management.

"You'll have to ask Johnny about that. It's nothing to do with me," Kosmina replied, when asked if Aloi$i had a future with the club.

"Any player is free to go if he wants. If Johnny chooses to go it's entirely his decision. I've haven't spoken to him about it.

"Whether I want him to stay or not is irrelevant because it is up to him."

Kosmina's unequivocal comments could inflame a strained relationship between the player and coach, who also is under pressure due to the team's poor results that left it in sixth place and with a mountain to climb in the last three rounds to get into the top four.

Aloi$i is understood to be deeply hurt by the controversy surrounding his form in the Sydney shirt.

He has refused to talk to the media since he came on as a substitute in the match against Melbourne Victory on December 27.

What would be nice now...
John needs a fresh start at a new club. This reminds me of where Elrich found himself at the 'Nix, he took the pay cut (I'm sure he's still one of our highest paid) and a fresh start at a new club which fit his style quite well. Before his injury he was looking quite good and pretty fit, and he'll be back for the ACL if all goes well!

John could redeem himself in my eyes if he did something similar to this. Whilst we have a ridiculous amount of good strikers already, John's experience and pedigree could help in the ACL if he gets fit. He'd definitely have to fit under our cap and that's gonna mean a biiig paycut. But if he wants to start clean and prove himself and do it right, I'd welcome him back.

Or is the general resentment for the man that strong that we all hope this is how his brilliant career should sadly end?
He did great things for the club last season and he definitely contributed on the pitch. Sure we changed our play to suit him, but look how repaid that in the run to the final!

Maybe I'm crazy.

he helped our pre-run to the final not the final run

he didn't score in his last six or seven games for us

the signs were there then and that is why the mariners didn't put up a fight when he decided to negotiate with sydney

tainted goods now and would not provide much value off the pitch as well as marquee

personally i wouldnt take him at any price, opposition defences have worked out how to take him out of the game - it started before he arrived at sydney, it actually started towards the end of last season where from the finals onwards he never really threatened... we have good enough strikers imo and id rather see it go toward either a quality replacement for jedi or to sure up the defence

How quickly people forget

He scored in 4 of his last 7 games for us, in rounds 16, 17, 18 and 21, so both points are invalid here IMO

when you look at the season, we actually did worse when he was in the team.

without:

P W D L
9 5 2 2

with:

P W D L
12 5 2 5

it is unfair to pin the extra 3 losses on a striker, and it ignores the mrdja influence at the start of the season when he made us look deadly and the fact that early in the season kwasnik was fully fit and was in simply ludicrous form and later he was ill and then injured and basically miles short of his best (still scored 6 goals for the season though - more than mark bridge did). all the same, we played quite differently with him as opposed to without him.

without him we could use sasho as he's meant to be - the lazy prick annoying the centre halves. that freed up a big hole behind him for kwasnik, simon, mrdja, pondeljak... whoever else to make runs and pull the defence out of shape, leaving sasho free to receive the ball and poke home from short range.

with him we had to send sasho deeper, and he's too lazy for that. aloisi couldn't do it because he's not fit. aloisi is a great header of the ball but he couldn't be used to his best ability because our crossing was shithouse.

Its amazing how far he has fallen. That goal against Japan in the world cup was class... Something he ain't anymore.

He looks a far bit heavier since then (look at the face - always a good indicator of extra weight)...he has  no chance of making any socceroo team for a while
