ccmfans.net is the Central Coast Mariners fan community, and was formed in 2004, so basically the beginning of time for the Mariners. Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

It only takes a few minutes, and joining will let you post your thoughts and opinions on all things Mariners, Football, and whatever else pops into your mind. If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

Wow, I figured CCM woudl be as keen as anyone but didn't think there'd be any real attempt beyond the basics...

Care to elaborate??

For the publicity alone I think Beckham is a good deal.... as it's just a guest stint it could be great for injury relief.
On the flip side, who would you leave out of the line up??

I have mixed feelings on this. I love seeing our young guns get a shot and excelling when ever they do. However, the financial gain and exposure he would bring to the Mariners would be substantial. For a club that has struggled financially in the past it would be a major coup and I know which player (pm me if ya wanna know) I would omit as I am just not a fan of his at all.

I reckon the young guns would be foaming at the mouth over the chance to train and play a few games with Beckham. Another selling point for young players to join the Mariners (i.e. chance to play alongside the likes of Vidmar, Aloisi, Bosnich, etc). Also, if he came here, I hope he would be used as much as possible to mentor and motivate the younger players. The publicity and bums on seats at Bluetongue would be great. A few goals wouldn't hurt either, but I reckon we've got that under control at the moment.

1. It is a 10 game guest stint ... he is coming off the MLS season so fitness may not be too much of a problem but fatigue and injury may.
2. I don't believe that the crowd rise would be a) as large as may be thought, b) sustained.
3. How does Arnie we fit him into our play?
4. It may make our slowly building team falter due to the disruption and more importantly distraction.
5. If there is that much money to be thrown around by benefactors, I can think of more worthy long term targets.

I may be in a minority, but I'm used to that.

Yes but those "more worthy long term targets" would probably not attract Singo's money. So I would argue it's Beckham or nothing. Would you prefer nothing? I agree it would be disruptive to this season, but could there be medium term benefits? We got over 19,000 to a home game with Del Piero (actually, without him but that's another story LOL). I wouldn't mind betting Beckham would beat that plus attract the interest of many people who would not otherwise go the football.

If we got him I'd want him for a couple of years. Let him put some skin in the game. Someone of his wealth could come in as equity partner, the COE could get built more quickly, more kids would be attacted to our academy, ticket sales, shirt sales, links to Milan labs, links to Man U, AC Milan and LA Galaxy would all be an advantage. If we did well in the ACL then those shirt sales could be multiplied through Asia. The irony if this happened is that Gallop and Singo would effectively be killing off the Bears for good.

A 10 game stint would deliver us only 5 or 6 home game, would disrupt the squad and he would then leave before the finals and we would need to rejig the team again. If Heart or Adelaide get him for a 10 game stint we may well get him for 2 games anyway for no cost.

Yes please. rest of the season & ACL thanks. Would be huge. Anyone who thinks it would not sell out our stadium on more than one occasion is nuts. The next Sydney v Mariners game would be at Homebush probs

As for where in the team. CDM. Next to Monty (with instructions for Monty to play ultra defensive). Hutch on the bench. Tommy would benefit greatly from this.

Don't we have enough players who can't take penalties? ;)

I don't see much benefit tbh... Short term, yep, definitely, likely bums on seats etc... But I expect the majority of those bums are pure novelty tickets, so not likely to return once they can say that they've seen "Becks" play. Not sure I think the disruption is worth a full Bluetongue once or twice.
I see much more likelihood from permanent gains from players like the current major marquees, as they probably primarily attract the football interested crowd, if you know what I mean...

I still don't think his image or his wife would let him move here either though, imagine Posh at Erina Fair??? ;)
Not to mention, what happened to the "No d*******s policy"? ;)

I would have thought bringing one of the biggest names in football to the coast would be a good thing... even people who know nothing about the game know who David Beckham is. Sure, it will bring out the part-timers, but isn't that the point? It's then up to the Mariners to convert them into loyal followers!

I can sort of see the argument about not bringing in an aging superstar of the game, and instead giving the opportunity to a young up-and-coming superstar... and points about it only being for 10 games... but if we had a young talent that created the amount of buzz that Beckham would, I imagine we wouldn't see him at the Mariners very long before he got snapped up by some overseas club, so we wouldn't see any long term benefits anyway.

Each to their own, though :D.

Well at least they didn't say the Russians were financing the proposal.
Love to see it but doubt it would happen. Worth the disruption and risking a premiership.
It's only one season or part there of. Coast kids would be buzzing for years afterwards.

He could stay at the travel lodge ;-)
Well not quite just yet!

From a promotional perspective - Yes. From a football perspective - No. I'd rather see our current team than someone looking to boost his superannuation.
