3 point we needed!
its great to see our two starting strikers gettin a goal...that will surely lift there confidence up.
All the players played a great game.
Good to see Wilko back and playin the full 90 minutes.
Mcbreen had a fantastic game, i hope GA will keep using him.
Credit to GA for starting Bernie. The kids got amazzing talent.
as always there is still more room for improvement.
Attendence IMO below par, bogey or mayb even a double bogey

Much better effort but still a bit scratchy.
First 5 minutes we looked poised but then defended like muppets on their first attack, conceed, and low and behold we look like we are going to lose again. We spent next 10-15 mins playing like scared juniors but after around 20min mark we started to have a go.
Bernie's movement and running was the catalyst and suddenly we started to play, once we scored, we never looked back. Was it convincing...not really....was it an improvement......yes, massive improvement. Some people are banging on about 2nd half against scum...to me that was piss and wind. Today was first time we have looked like the Mariners this season. Having Wilko and Bernie start made a huge difference as it's first time we have had anything like our best side on the park.

Ryan 7.5. Good game generally. Could have been better under high ball but solid performance. The flick up was great what's all the fuss about.
Bojic 7. Good game, very strong defensively but still some appalling crosses.
Rose 6.5. More solid and structured and getting back into form.
Wilko 7. Great to have him back got better as game went on.
Duchy 8. Cool hand Luke. Back to sublime best.
Weemac 6. Still under par but tried hard and showed some improvement.
Griffo 7. Bad for first 20 mins but once he settled he drove us on to victory.
McBreen 7.5. Good solid knock from an intelligent Footballer....huge improvement on Pelle.
Olly 6. See weemac.
Simon 8. Great game and did the business in the box.
Bernie 8.5. My MOM. I thought Bernie was the difference between a win and a loss or draw tonight. Excellent full debut.

Was happy with both Amini and Hearfield when they came on.....I also think if Bernie had still been on Amini would have looked better.

Good work boys, great win.

3pts Bernie
2pt Simon
1pt Dutchy

Mentioned in dispatches.....McBreen

To all the fair weather supporters reading this....get off you arses and come to the game. It was a great atmosphere for such a small crowd and the yellow army were fantastic all game.
Support your club and don't be soft poofs (apologies to any poofs that went to the game).

worst, most biased commentary ever. They decided we were shit then tried to find the reasons why, but we still won!

Agree with most of what you said cept for Bojic & McBreen .... Bojic passing is bad and he seems to be rushing his passes often with no target he needs close support around him or decent calls but as i see it he is causing a lot of balls to be lost... on McBreen decent second half but very poor first half and over ran his place .... in the first half when Bernie cut in and played it back McBreen over ran the play and a great goal scoring chance resulted in us having to scramble back ...

Tho PG over all were close to the Brisbane side of a couple of years ago when they had Moore & Danny T ... often savage in tackles always nipping at feet and how Burns gets away week in week out with living on the edge... to me the PG squad with a different coach trying to play football to win ... would be a lot better than they are now...

Over in the club three different groups of people asked me the score after the match ... walking back to my car after we left the club another group asked me the score and I stopped and filled up for petrol and a guy asked me the score .... seems the good folk of the CC want us to win but can't seem to bring themselves to go a match ... not sure of the answer ....

Maybe a silly idea I wonder if we had some BBQ's set up inside the stadium and gave away heaps of sausages in a roll ... i.e first Xthousand tho the gate get a ticket for a free sausage ... just do something to get people to come.. same for the Roar tho in a city of 2 million and playing the way they are 11K to 13 K .... but there seems to be plenty of interest in the street but not in getting them tho the gate...

What a great 1st half from the Mariners, more like the team from last year. Thanks to Wilko for coming back. Never knew how much we missed him till he wasn't there. I have always prasied Dutchy, but now realise how important Wilko is too.

I know everyone on hear hates to hear it, but so glad to see Brad Porter not in the squad. He should never play in defense again for the Mariners.

Give him a go at right or left wing but not right back or central defence please.

Good to see AP not there either, 3 games wasted with them. Top 4 spot here we come.

i can't complain about the crowd. it's perth and the boys played
like head less chooks for alot of the 1st 3 games.
try keeping an 8 year old happy that would rather be
kicking a ball at the back of the stands happy than watch
an insomnia cure like the g,coast game.
atleast the dutchman ragging the quality of australian football
wasn't there.the pig and german joke would have come out this time
for sure

Hmmmm......Let he who is without sin.......... :naughty:

Sorry not a personal attack on Gull. I know we were shite 1st game but we dropped 4k in numbers. We seam to have about extra 6-7k that only come sometimes and about 6.5k rusted on. Id love us to average 10k again.
Sorry Gully, I shouldn't have used you to make a point.

Nah I think you will find more agreeing than you think... defender really isn't his thing. I think he was originally RM?

@localpom - I agree. Same line-up for next week

McBreen had a great game.
I hope he NEVER plays striker again. Alternate between him and Musty depending on tactics...

@stylecafe
I'd have been glad to make it a long plane ride home...but Perth play Jets next week at the Scumdrome...I wonder if they stay in the area?
Even worse for them,I hope they are made to stay in Newcastle.. :piralaugh: :piralaugh: :piralaugh:

For what it`s worth I actually enjoyed the game from start to finish.Yes, it was sometimes pretty, sometimes shitty but it was nail biting stuff.
We played with so much more enthusiasm than I`ve seen from us these lastfew weeks & for whatever reason we were fired up!!!
For mine I also thought PG were were pretty good & played a lot better football than last year.

I agree with most of Roy`s wrap up player wise but I would like to single out McBreen.I`ve bagged the guy since he`s been with us but last night I thought was the best game he`s played for us.Not because he was brilliant but he had a go.He drew players in,took some hard knocks & played with so much more energy than he has in the past.

On that performance (& it kills me to say so),he deserves a starting spot next week.

Also, the appearance of Wilko did wonders for our confidence. He just filled the spot but the other players just looked better having him there.

Lastly, to those wankers on channel 7 who reported that "it was a scrappy game played in the wet",how about watching a f......g game instead pushing the NRL & AFL.You wouldn`t know your arse from your elbow the lot of you.

PS..If the girls at Bluetongue aren`t the best in the league i`ll give it away... :eek:verhead:

Yep, and I liked how calm we were in front of goal. Brisbane does the same thing all the time, instead of just blazing away into row M, they pick their moment... although sometimes we do over-think it, but we're a lot better than we have been in the past!

Another thing I like is how it looks like we're still trying to stick to the game plan, keep the ball on the deck, play the passing game that we got going so well last season. Sure, we've had a few bad games, and we're still turning the ball over a lot, but at least the panic button hasn't been pushed and we're not resorting to thumping it aimlessly up the park every time.

also, those are the games we need to put the opposition to the sword!!
bang in another 1, 2 or 3? and finish them off, otherwise as has happened in the past
we will pay for it. . .
