Round III Jets v Mariners

No I don't think so Nero. I don't believe they even have tickets anymore and have changed over to a coupon policy.

Mind you if, you want Gold seats, you still have to hand in two crushed cans or a hubcap as well. So it's not like they've gone completely gone to the dogs or anything.

:innocent:

I must disagree wholeheartedly to some of those things.

Pedj cant shoot. He hits about 1 in 100 on target, and his crossing is not a whole lot better.

He gets up and down the wings fine, but does not add much to an attack except to draw a defender.

Porters crossing was not good last year, if he has brought it back to what it used to be, he is much more dangerous down the wing, even if you give up a little defensively.

That said I have been pretty happy with porters defence the last 2 games, so he has likely improved a fair bit there since last year.

That also said, with the way weemac played last time out, id be happy to see porter given a go at RM to put some pressure on weemac.

With grif, and when we had jedi, i think we can afford to have attacking wingbacks.

That is my 2c

I'd prefer to see Brad at RM rather than RB. Pedj was one of our best last season and has done nothing to warrant losing his spot. Wee Mac is a fair bit better than Porter but the great thing about Brad is he can play several spots.

First, I really am NOT a fan of Porter...I like that he is a coastie, and he is versatile but that's pretty much where it ends
I'm a MASSIVE fan of Bojic...he has that incredible work ethic, physical presence, defensive ability, motor...
Now that I got that out of the way
I'm sorry to say...Bojic is a TERRIBLE crosser of the ball!
And Brad is a pretty good one
I know he has set up at least 3 goals from the right hand side
And he has probably a 50% success rate in hitting a decent cross into the box (still poor for the a-league)
2 for Simon, and now 1 for Patrick
If you need proof, ask...I should be able to dig up the Simon goals (back in Lawrie's days)

Bojic must have a 25% rate of hitting crosses into the box.

But for the debate, I think Bojic is much better overall than Porter (especially defensively), but if we were chasing a game, I'd consider bringing on porter for some decent delivery...when he hits that cross well, he hits it VERY well

The other thing about Porter is that I think he was originally a CAM? (Please correct me if I'm wrong). He has just fitted in wherever he has been asked. Maybe he is an option at the point of the diamond when Wilko returns. I would suspect that Musti won;t be playing a full 90 minutes for a while.

relax people, the mariners are back! I was really concerned that we lost our mojo, but we turned it on for the 2nd half...if we play like that every week we will get points
What I can't comprehend is
1) Why play in the air? First half long balls were painful to watch, and several times in the final 10 mins, we tried doing cute, deft chips...not effective at all.
2) Sorry Arnie, the Porter experiment has well and truly failed
3) Why do we peservere with McBreen as a striker?
4) What happened to WeeMac and Olly??? There were 2 of the outstanding players of last season. It seems on the Olly front, his shooting has improved greatly...and everything else is shit (complete opposite of last year)

Actually on the McBreen topic, I personally thought he was shit for majority of the first half, but when moved to CAM, he actually played better (tbf, he couldn't have played worse)

Start Bernie next week

PS. who are the only mariners performing atm?
Personally I'd go with Simon, Ryan, Bernie and Dutchy (despite his error vs Roar).

Sad to say everyone else is failing to match the highs of last year.

PPS. I think we should give Pelle a chance vs his former team (otherwise I'd have dropped him)

PPPS. We lost only 2 games away from home last season...we have lost 2 out of 2 this season already, thats a fascinating stat. I still think we will improve and make finals (although title challenge looks bleak)

Well that was horrible....not our performance but the result.

While we weren't great it was much better than last week's dross.

Ryan 9. Mom. Excellent and quick distribution was fantastic.
Bojic 6. Better than last week and put in 100 percent but passing and crossing was state league standard.
Rose. 6. Disappointing and passing woeful. Tried hard but not a good game.
Porter 4. Cost us the game. Sad, because his first 10 mins was ok but you can't play players that make regular mistakes or lack composure in the backs....especially in the middle. The ball he gave away was criminal but he still had the chance to stop Brockie but failed miserably. Was always going to happen.
Dutchy 8. Shining light and light years ahead of his defensive team-mates.
Bozanic 5.5 Tried hard but must have Helen Keller as crossing coach.
Rostyn 7. Much better game and also saved the defence a couple of times.
Pelle 5. Are you having a larf. McBreen looked miles better at AM. Who is AM in yoof because they should get a run before this clown.
Weemac. 6.5. Much better than last week.
Simon 6. 10/10 for effort. 3/10 finishing. Missed an open goal.
McBreen 6.5. Decent game and at times looked like our best player (or at least best vision) and set up Simon nicely. He's no Smeltz but deserves another start on that effort.

Subs.....all did ok and Bernie showed great promise.

Better than last week but still unsure why we struggle to complete a 10yd pass. Dodgy as f**k upfront!

I wouldn't give Pelle a game against Umina on current form.

The key thing is we are talking about defenders.....Pedj is a flawed diamond but decent defender. Brad is a shit house defender who has a reasonable touch and can cross a decent ball. Neither could score in a brothel.
So as a defender Pedj would always get my pick.
Otherwise you end up like Leeds united and Ian Harte(LB) who was a brilliant crosser and a world class dead ball specialist but was the worst fullback I have ever seen in EPL.....and look what happened to Leeds.

@ Wombat I completely agree
Just somebody on here claimed Bojic was a good crosser.
So I wanted to clear that up...and give Porter credit where it's due...I've never rated him (and after today probs never will).
But simply put Bojic is heads and shoulders above Brad in practically every other way

oh, forgot to ask
Bernie...penalty or not?
I think it maybe should have been a penalty...probs biased (obviously asking on a mariners forum will clear that up :p )
i'd like ot have another look later

I like porter he is a top bloke and always tries but he will never be Hal standard defender. I feel like a prick at times pointing it out but not everyone can see the bleeding obvious at times. I was also wishing that he would prove me wrong until Wilko makes it back....but I knew, deep down, that something like today was going to happen.

As a side note, massive Lol@The Squadrunts. The thought that we would be cut about never having worn a bridal gown is hilarious. FTR, we've never worn a bridesmaids dress either and why? BECAUSE OUR BOYS DON'T WEAR F**KING SKIRTS!

Also, was that banner hanging from the balcony meant to be Bridge scoring in the GF? Because the bloke on it looked like he was wearing a Mariners jersey!

i think the Pellegrino experiment is over - Mbreen was much better, took up better positions, god he even had a better touch, and will do better until Amini comes back. Could be a good thing too for the midfield, Pelle's better fighting for a space with glinch and olly, who were both flat / woeful - .they're playing like they have no competition for places. I don't give a shit if Bernie has attitude problems, start him - he has twice the touch of half the team at the moment. 1 yellow in a derby - pffffffff.
