Round 16 Mariners V Glory Boys

I would likle to see Elrich given a start up front he has better touch and a better turn than Nik & Kassie ... deep down I hope he is trying to get back to his best...

A little thing when he came on up front last night he played more like a natural No 10 just in and behind  Matty and that could be a nice combination with the mids streaming in behind..

WeeMac 7.  Goes missing a lot doesnt he?.
Have noticed this in a couple of recent games.

Hopefully it's just a bad patch he's going through although he does appear to go missing if the opposition rough him up a bit.

Maybe the reason he didn't make it in Scotland ?

Would make sense with the physical nature of the game over there.

hope it is not the heat because it has been on warm days/nights
Could be........if so he's in trouble.........wee Scottish (sort of) redhead playing football in the heat of an Aussie summer..... :-\

Funny how we all see things differently MF.

I agree he ran his arse off 1st half but I thought he did nothing for all the effort.

In terms of making the play I thought he improved when Travis game on.

Everyone improved when Travis came on... he and weeMac on the park together create a lot of space for others ...I tho he created some great chances in the first half and put tho two killer balls  Nil only moved when the pass was made not before running into space ..

BTW anyone know how long Travis is signed for ....

if he is still has injury problems and LM is nursing him he still will need another season to be 100% (see heff broken leg recovery) so barring stupid offers we might snare him.

How can anyone say Mrdja had a worse game than Kwassie?

Kwassie could not link up with Mrdja if his life depended on it. Meanwhile, Mrdja made some good passes back to a running midfield, and was very unlucky not to score when Velaphi checked him (which should have resulted in a penalty.) Our major problem was the mids weren't linking up with the forwards properly. Wee Mac was looking our most dangerous player in the first half, we really needed to sub Travis on for Bojic at half time. Then give Matty 30 min for Kwassie, we would have had 2 fresh firing players.

Well, lets look on the good side. Next week we should be fired up and playing better!

I agree.
I also think we are still learning some very valuable things about our players and team combinations. Which is very important to do, and not copping a loss while doing so is definitely a good thing.

I think as someone said in another thread, we probably went with Crowell and Pedj to try to deal with Glory's physical strength via Burns and Shroj among others...
Worked defensively, but we obviously lost something in attack.

Perhaps a 4 5 1 would have been better with Travis on from the opening, though I thought he must have had a knock. Especially as he didn't come on till 70.

I think other recent squad lessons, have been with the addition of Lewis our heightened mobility and width against Melbourne worked exceptionally well - our best game of the season so far - also speaks volumes, at the very least, of how we need to play MV in attack. Which is who I'm tipping to be with us in the final of the post season cup  ;D :eek:verhead:

Must say, even though it was an obvious flat performance, i'm really glad that we are getting points from epic shite this year. Can be the difference between a good year and a poor one.

Most of our draws we have played f**king poor football. Take those points away and we sit in 6th only 3 points away from the bottom.

Travis must start. If he was on when we had all that possesion in the first 30mins odds are we would have scored. Every time LM has gone defensive with the team selection it has resulted in disjointed passing performances in midfield.

Mrdja back to his pea hearted best, blaming everyone but himself. f**k OFF NOW AND SAVE US ALL THE PAIN

And just which game were you watching? Certainly not last night's game because while Nik wasn't good, he also wasn't the worst on the park.
I guess it's just your mindless hatred of the man blinding your eyes.

Where did I mention he was the worst on the park?

Pea hearted best - his attack on the ball when he was in the 50/50 with Velaphi was pathetic

Blaming everyone but himself - if you didn't see him doing this then what game were you watching? Go back over the games where he has played shit, and you will see him blaming everyone else for his non runs and not having the ball played to where he is standing. When ever he does this he is terrible and brings down the rest of the side.

I'd also like to point out that I have been a big believer in Mrdja over the years, and thought that he would come good in time. But I have been disappointed week after week, month after month and year after year. The less time he gets on the pitch for the rest of the season the better it will be for us.

See my reply above. But I don't think Kwas likes play with Mrdja. Kwas was playing fine when partnering Matty up front, and I think you will a better Kwas next week playing alongside Matty again.

Good technical players like weemac need good players round about him that understand the game of football, when he picks the ball up in midfield he needs the players in front of him to understand that they need to start moving into space to help in the pass ahead but from what i see the forwards movement is nil ,very hard to play when there is not much to work with.

Dont think anyone has said he was the worst on the pitch simply that he reverted to his usual level of performance. Shit

. unfortunately when mrdja goes on a rant the kwas always bears the brunt if he is around ... warranted or not

. and to generalise it is when the kwas is arguably at his worst. to tie in with FPs post about marvin i think the kwas is also at his freaky lovable best when he has free rein to do what unnaturally comes natural to him

Just to let you know that historically it is very rare for a team to score five goals in one game and then back up with a win, strange but true.
I thought Vukovic played well, great positioning for the header and the shot he kicked around the post and sublime judgment to not bother moving to Sterjovski's thunderbolt. Thought Boogs was massive in the air and very composed on the ball; McGlinchey was busy but two passes in the first half, one to Hutch one to Mrdja, were both too long and were critical failings. We had the other Kwasnik, the one who four times in the first half laid off the ball without enough weight and we lost possession. I thought Mrdja did ok but Simon had the first touch of Rebound Ace when he came on and what a soft header to miss. Liked Elrich's cameo, he seems to be getting some quickness back. And yes, Travis has to start. Thought the team worked extremely hard, a lot of players were making runs for the ball in the first half, but sometimes you need to work smart as well as work hard. And the laughable irony is that by 'picking up a point' at home we have moved to third in the table! And if my front lawn was in the condition of Bluetongue my wife would rip my ear off. What a disgrace.

The most pleasing thing for me this season is our defence.

For most of the season Doig's been out so the defence is the same one that leaked soft goals all last season.......what's the difference ?

If Doig is having a big input in a coaching sense then he's doing a bloody good job it would seem.....coach in the making perhaps ?

Or have the defence just woken up in fear of losing their places when Doig's fit again ?

Whatever the reason it's a good result.

Still not convinced that Wee Mac defending a post at corners is all that smart.

We will get caught out on this sooner or later
