ROUND 16 - CCM V WSW

1, that was heart breaking

2, noticed Damian Da Bohan and some of his other suits from the FFA were there. no help to us and riding on the Garcia coat tails. Don't give a dam about us but turn up when it suits them without any support from them.

3. Monty is a pro so no excuses, BUT, he was baited constantly by Jamison, Popa, Bridge via the Reddy situation. The good thing is that is that the vile reddy is now of influence somewhere else.

4. I thought the defence was good just two rookie errors, they created lots but we handled it well. They hardly had a shot.

5. Get Bingham back and McGing.

6. Garcia buggered and walking is more value on the field than on the bench. He clearly took over and we looked way more organised.

7. Really worried about about the Josh Rose omission. it looks alot like the situation with others, he looks a goner and that isn't fair. Maybe the knee injury is worse than expected

TW was clear it was form based and said it is not for lack of trying. He is giving it his all. Definitely not like the others IMO

However as Luke said his legs might be going and he appears to be on the decline.

The pitch was atrocious.

Ashcroft got his 5th yellow. Out next week with Monty (Durante got his 5th tonight as well)

Was the worst we have played with 10 men.

It's a funny ole thing... From where I was sitting, I didn't think there was ever any real danger with the studs, it looked to me like he actually worked hard to turn his feed away and ended up collecting more with the shins.
I just watched the replay and it still looks like that to me... People referring to it as "Muscat-esque" are way over the top for mine... I think it was a bad call, not even sure I feel that it's excused by the ref who was in a position to see the bottom of both his boots.
Once that's said, I'd expect the MRP to keep it... Not much to be gained from starting another discussion about these things, when borderline reds are given all the time.

Monty gets there momentarily after the ball - his foot that was raised but makes no contact with the WSW player - in fact his foot goes into the side of Monty's calf. Monty's slide catches the WSW player. Potentially could have been really nasty. In actual fact Monty was probably hurt more in the tackle. However, the interpretation of the law is

"A tackle that endangers the safety of an opponent must be sanctioned as serious foul play.
Any player who lunges at an opponent in challenging for the ball from the front, from the side or from behind using one or both legs, with excessive force and endangering the safety of an opponent is guilty of serious foul play."

"The referee must send off the player guilty of serious foul play when the ball is next out of play"

Given that there can be no real argument

Yeah even worse when you don't just slide but jump into. It is more dangerous and looks much more aggressive also. Though it's also just a valid way of bridging distance quicker.

The foot hit the WSW player's shin. Given how high the foot was - and he came in with force - I think straight red is the correct decision. I think HAL refs tend to be a bit too soft on dangerous tackles. And when you leap in at well, always much more force involved and you also don't have control. Stupid tackle really.
What I hated to see was the half dozen WSW grubs get in his face afterwards. I'm fed up with how soft the HAL is with players who inexplicably feel the need to get involved with everything. Foul? Gotta get in his face. Any referee decision at all? Let's all crowd the referee. Referee opened his orange powerade? He needs 8 men in his face telling him he should have chosen blue instead. It's ridiculous, unnecessary and it turns the game into a farce. It's worse for the game in Australian than diving (given the latter isn't that much of a problem). Credit to Monty for being the first player in the history of the HAL to just accept a red card and walk off the field - at least, he tried to if WSW would let him.
Just saw the highlights...that first goal...what the actual flap. Nice to know if there's one thing we're consistent with it's the defence being the absolute weak link in the chain.

Jedi got sent off for us vs Brisbane back in the day for walloping Hyuk Su Seo and just showed some disappointment and went.

And when Rogic was marched he went without protest I think (his last act as a Mariner if I recall!).

Rudan after the game was fairly calm and gave a good view on us and was quite complimentary unlike Bozza who I don't think watched the 2nd half
But
Rudan was carrying on about the players knowing who there going into tackle and Monty would have known it was Gol Gol and known his injury history.

He was saying Monty should have not made the attempted tackle because of who it was. What a load of shit. I'm not defending the tackle it was bad and got what it deserved but to say you don't go hard because a player has been seriously hurt in the past is bullshit. He is not a protected species and shouldn't be playing if not ready.
No one wants to see anyone hurt especially again but to basically imply Monty did it knowing it was Gol Gol is disrespectful

That's just ridiculous. There isn't a single player on the field who's going to think 'hey, didn't that guy have a few months off a season or two ago? I should go soft in this tackle then'
That's not saying that some particularly filthy players won't target none injuries, but we don't have any vicious players. Roy has the worst history, and it's just brain explosions from him. Don't think we've ever had anybody I'd consider malicious. Even when Hutcho was acting as an enforces, it was never done with the viciousness of others.
I'm sure if it was a player from Melbourne, WSW or Sydney Rudan would have been praising the 'spirited tackle' and highlighted yet another example of how referees don't understand the game or some crap.

I wouldn't know what to do myself if we were every treated fairly by commentators.

I watched the interview (and normally like Rudan's insights) and he was waffling about Monty's tackle. He was talking absolute garbage....weird comments.

Got this in my email this afternoon...

Mariners issue formal complaint

On behalf of our Members, players and staff the Central Coast Mariners have today issued a formal complaint to Fox Sports Australia and Football Federation Australia in regards to inappropriate comments against our Club and players following our most recent match against Western Sydney Wanderers.

The Mariners have been inundated with Members expressing their concerns and demanding that the Club takes appropriate steps to ensure that the integrity of the Mariners and its players are protected against unwarranted and totally unfounded comments.

This was also raised officially by the Club’s supporter groups who recently held meetings with Mariners Chairman, Mike Charlesworth.

We will be updating our Members on any formal response we receive from Fox Sports Australia or Football Federation Australia on the matter.

Any Member wishing to express their views are encouraged to contact the club via email onmemberships@ccmariners.com.au so we can contact you directly to discuss your concerns.

Kind regards,

Central Coast Mariners

Yep, better in turbulence.

Back on the game. I rate strorm very highly. Some horror moments and games this year - but i genuinely think he'll be the better player for them. Not worse.

Suspect he'll push on to prove a fair few wrong. Has shown plenty over his time with us so far.
Think he just needs a little more time, leadership and support and is then likely to become one of the top 3 RB's in the HAL.

Storms body position was horrible. His shoulders and hips were already facing the east stand. Did get a bit of a bad pass from Fab that sort of forced his body that way, but his pass to Fab caused that.

While he hopefully didn't see Bridge his pass was neither near Posco or Izzo so got what it deserved.

He has been great with Fab this year.

Chalk it up as a bad game just don't make it 2 in a row

He's doubly lucky - with Monty out, McGing has to play at 6, otherwise even with Ascroft out we could still have played Uskok and McGing at 3 and 4 with Posco going to 2.
