Uhh, if the crowd is down, and fox viewing figures are up, then that may suggest that a number of people stayed home.

If a single family of 4-5 stayed home to watch the game, then that's 1 more household for fox but 4-5 less tickets to the game.  It ads up - though if it's money, then the Sydney fans would've spent more money than coast fans to come.

Still, pity the crowd wasn't bigger.

After all the talk on the forum last week about great penalties, how good was Jedinak's! no stopping that, absolute belter.

Caceras was man of the match for mine. I would love a hilights reel of all his runs from last night, he is so good on the ball and so many times he left defenders confused which way he went. Im happy we signed this guy.

I think during this stage of economic turmoil which has families scared of spending (especially during christmas with all the food and presents), any club which is averaging +8k for their games is going well.

bojic was the one clearing the ball and he encroached by about two metres right in front of the ref

no arguments about the retake
Looked to me like Bojic didn't touch the ball; it actually rebounded out past him to Wilko (I think??)

Not that it matters, he clearly encroached. But given how often these are not retaken because the encroachment doesn't directly affect the outcome of the penalty, there probably wouldn't have been many complaints if it was overlooked.

Also he got a yellow for it, and if he in fact did not clear the ball, neither did the player on the far side (Hutch??) who was just as far into the box and got let off with no card.

What about Uncle Kev's Grand in the Hand?

In the pokies or the bottle shop I expect :)

Seriously though, I know a few people who have got this handout and they are all "putting it away" in expectation of a shit year in 09.

While we are getting het up over sauce being chucked, our Blingy friends seem to have bigger issues to deal with. From their MB:

But some of the Sydney FC supporters at the game last night need to take a good hard look at themselves.
Yes we lost a game we needed to win, and yes we were crucified by the referee. But that does not excuse the throwing of bottles and debris that occurred from the moment the penalty was awarded onwards. Especially that half-full bottle was thrown onto the pitch while the game was still in progress - it came from well behind me, so I don't know who threw it, but that person should be banned from attending A-League matches for life.
When that Mariners fan with the flag came into our area at half time, was it really necessary for one of our supporters to get right in his face and abuse him like that?
Some of the aggression from some of our supporters was over the top. Someone wearing a Sydney FC shirt was spotted taking a swing at a cop, which fortunately didn't hit.
And with a large group of people with a lot of alcohol in their system, watched on by 100 police and security, the chant of "There's going to be a riot" wasn't a smart idea. How many children and families evacuated the stadium in fear of their safety at that point? It wasn't a good look, it was downright ugly, and reflects badly on our club

Interesting in that the police/security overkill seems to rank this as a higher risk game than the scum. Maybe I missed it but the general atmos seemed pretty good last night.

I think the riot police are still hanging around from the v1 v2 game where the press got hold of some msgs from the central coast elite wannabes that hyped up an organized riot.  ::) ::) ::) ::) ::)
I prefer the majority(not all) of sydney fans to most other fan bases i ve met so much more class then scum but thats not too hard.

11,200 was disappointing really.

The Cove had their usual numbers and it is our support that is down.

Yes the cove had the usual numbers but where we sit on the Eastern side the spaces there are usually filled with other Sydney fans. They weren't there last night.I think both clubs brought along the regulars but the casual fan is just not turning up at the moment.

Crowds are down for all teams this season so it's not just a problem flor the Mariners. All of the clubs and the FFA need to develop marketing strategies and promotions to get more people back to the games.

Saw Jedinak's penalty goal on TV today and it was an absolute ripper, slammed perfectly into the net. There wouldnt be many goalies capable of stopping it. Brilliant text book stuff.

Glad you agree with me with regards to Jedis penalty - Kareem doesn't agree with us so we must clearly be wrong!!!

Kareem just disagrees because he could've taken it better.

He would've taken it so fantastically, the ref would've awarded us 2 goals for it!!

You've got it right all round. The rebound made it all the way out by itself, but it did go past Pedj. I didn't think encroachment was a yellow-card offence. I've seen one given for it before. I was wondering whether he made a noise or gesture to try put off Aloisi - that would be a YC act.

We had an incorrect offside against us by the same linesman in the first half. Ours wouldn't have been a penalty, but it would have been a decent chance. Maybe a better chance given Aloisi's penalty record in the A-League. :p

Agree that we sat back after dominating the first half and being a goal up. To be fair to the team, we only conceded through a shocker by Danny, and otherwise looked solid sitting back. But you always run that risk. I think every team in the league plays this way, but only Melbourne does it particularly effectively because they are good on the counter. When we're dominating, we should press on for a second goal.

FFC Mariner is right - Hutch plays better when Heff is on. The balance works because Heff runs off the ball and Hutch sits in for him. When we had D'Apuzzo sitting static at left back the other week, we had no options down that side. Things are building nicely.

Great performance in front of Pim too. The A-League Socceroos for the January 28 Asian Cup game, based on this performance, could look something like:

Covic

North? Moore Ognenovski Jamieson
        Jedinak Musialik
Dodd                      Caceres
      Archie
              Macallister

guys its a difference of opinion
i dont care that much if you don't agree with me
other people agree with me- heck its the perfect place to hit - but its very risky.
Just so show that i am not alone in my thoughts. That someone who is somewhat respected (to an extent) might share the same view
http://www.smh.com.au/news/sport/football/a-league/thriller-hits-the-spot-for-mariners/2008/12/14/1229189447001.html?page=fullpage#contentSwap1
From SMH article
Ultimately, Macallister's second defining contribution of the night came when he was brought down by Iain Fyfe, allowing Jedinak to snatch victory with a lofted penalty McKinna described as "a bit high for my liking, I thought it was going over the bar".

So my view isn't unique- just plain honest
my words were that it was decent- and i commented only on how it nearly went over . But people find enjoyment in targeting me for anything that I may say....oh well

Brett-wat bout M.Simon?
I think fringe players should/will be Bojic, Heff (even if he has just come back- we have a LB shortage and I like him better than Jamieson ;)), Tarek Elrich (been possibly Jets only 100% performer with everyone else sub-par), Griffiths, Cole

"Wet-Dream Kareem"

To make a suggestion like this, especially for a National Team selection after playing just one game and off the bench at that, is just ridiculous.

Time to get Mum to wash ya sheets.

Heffernan was on verge of callup before getting his leg broken last year.
Before Jamieson's arrival Heffernan was unquestionably the best LB in the league
I would reagrdless play Jamieson ahead of Heff considering the injury
My statement was that Heff should be in the squad (as bench or just train on) considering his status and level he was last year as well as shortage of LB's

So, it was only a "decent" penalty - although top corner is the perfect place to hit it? I'm confused now :s

IMO - that is how you take a penalty.
