ccmfans.net is the Central Coast Mariners fan community, and was formed in 2004, so basically the beginning of time for the Mariners. Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

It only takes a few minutes, and joining will let you post your thoughts and opinions on all things Mariners, Football, and whatever else pops into your mind. If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

Round 14 v Tards

Don't think the side will be changed...possibly one player. I could be wrong but Wee Mac will be with the Kiwi's anyway, Doig may well be still injured. Crowell may come in, but for who? Good news that Elrich and Mrjda are starting to show signs of recovering their form. Some selection headaches for LM.

would nik be scoring more if we were already playing 4-3-3?

personally, i'm not a fan. i love the idea of the attacking team with extra men forward, but in reality and with the general mentality of our team we're a team that sets up at a kickoff in 4-3-3 and then as soon as it's time to defend we play a 4-5-1.

what we're doing well at the moment (and which suggests to me that we shouldn't change things too much!) is getting our fullbacks up to the penalty area and even the by-line. we're playing a 4-5-1 the way it's meant to be played now, so we're both freely attacking and defensively stout.

the personnel will change from week to week, but it seems everyone knows the system. let's not muck around with it for the sake of it.

433 very quickly becomes 451 if the opposition press you.

With 442, our strikers become the first line of defence, closing down the team trying to play the ball out from the back. This allows the rest of the side to form the 2 banks of 4 and retain our shape.

Adelaide tried to counter this with hoofing it long. too easy to deal with and Melb kept trying to play and were just strangled.

442 for me

Some crappy radio station newsreport spoke about how the Victory lost but not one word about the Mariners. Just what do they have to do?
lynch some people? i.e. harper, or a simpler easier option just stick to what we know were good at  and be F***kin' proud of it

A report now on BOTN from a Victorian writer, no less:

http://spirit.webcity.com.au/AFN/2009-2010/R14/R14-MVvsCC.htm

I was in a motel in Wodonga screaming at every goal - what the neighbours thought I care not! Wooot!!!!

:pirashoot:

Very good report that. Good writing, accurate and without bias.

I question the various comments around that we were the more physical side. Sure, we matched the Tards, but they were no shrinking violets.

Who kicked who in the balls? Who elbowed who in the head and was lucky not to get at least a booking?

Anyone who says we are physical, and yet has Muscat in their side is blind in both eyes.

I'm an idiot savant without the pesky savant bit

. would like to add to this that our midfield is actually playing like a midfield. depending on the circumstances, in the past we have often had 3 extra forwards or 3 extra defenders ... but an almost non-existent midfield

. now the guys are moving around in the middle, pushing forward (WITH THE BALL!) and arriving late in the box. of course they are then better positioned when there is a change in possession ... one way or another

One of the moments of the game came just after half time when Brad Porter absolutely smashed Archie Thompson on the halfway line with a fair challenge.

Over the past few years Thompson has absolutely terrorised Porter and has found plenty of space and goals against him.

Not on Saturday night. Porter was sensational in keeping his channel tight. He was also good going forward and providing support in attack.

Moments like that are the moments when defenders think to themselves "that's it, I'm going to f**k you up all day". Porter would've felt 8ft tall and bulletproof for the rest of the match.

Possibly my favourite moment of the night! Then Archie rolling around and having a massive sook after it.

Haven't been able to find a replay of it though :(

In the 1st half he lost a 50/50 to the Thai (?) and recovered and went in with a really strong challenge, ball and all.

Maybe the fact that he has been resigned and not as an under age player (I think) but as a member of our squad in his own right has given him the self belief that he belongs at this level.

With the competition for places now, he cant afford to relax.

I'd say not just the resigning, but the fact that it's for two years. That says that Lawrie thinks very highly of him.

He hasnt been an underage player for the last 2 years i think, I think lawrie has always rated him since season one, he has come along way in the last two years and does deserve the new contract and always nice to keep more local boys in the squad
