ALSO The UGLY - Crowd of under 9000 - that was poor and really an embarrassment

I said to one of my mates at half time - never underestimate the crowd being pulled in by a NAME - like Aloisi last year......

hmmmm after that match I am going to be a tad harsh

Good freekick- but maybe not the best positioning by Danny (but maybe doesn't have confidence in the wall after cole in game vs sydney???)
NB: that's where I position him in fifa09 but thats only a game so I am not contradicting myself (the walls r so crap and freekicks are like 40-50% succession rate)
How we didn't get the foul firstly is confusing me but meh...

we did play bad going forward which was painful to watch
well taken goal to Gumps
unlucky by hutcho at end but...we didnt deserve to win tbh- so a draw was fair IMO

Vukovic- didn't have much work to do- but when called upon he did his job- just a small question mark on positioning for freekick- but he won't perfect that for years to come (as the case for most keepers)
Wilko- i was impressed- maybe starting to regain that form!
Bojic- I love this guy- frakin awesome!
Porter- get him out of defence- he is a midfielder and houdl eb in hutcho's spot
D'Appuzo- he is getting there- got good potential- did get caught out a bit by their right flanker (Murdocca?)
Jedinak- distribution wasnt that great tbh- could have had a shot 2-3 times but didnt (where is his confidence). But he performed his holding role to precision- winning the ball numerous times
Hutcho- actually a decent game but he still needs to be benched for porter
Osman- ummmm! OUT NOW- ring Gumps in!
Caceres- nice. he is getting there- and played a full game too!
Sasho- some questionable decisions on passing/not passing- but was allright
Macca- was good on ball + in air- but he just aint firing- not good enough supply?

Gumps- Quality strike!
START HIM NOW!he did reinvigorate our attack. He engages the crowd- wat more do u want???
lol- I was saying before the game though that he never scores :p - I'm glad ot be proven wrong!

Mrdja- some interesting decision making at times but he will come good (I hope!)

Ref- hated the reffing- not good quality
Girl Linesman- shocking- needs to learn + understand offside rule!

I'll concede the ugly - poor crowd for this time of season compared to last year

I reject the embarrassment - look around at the others (other than Victory) - we are doing OK in a bad season

Want embarrassment? - check out LethargyAustralia's crowd later today.

Yes but we are challenging top 4 - they are down the bottom in last....

I think they will have a decent crowd up there - lots of chopper fans travelling

Kareem - I will be easy on you but have you seen the replay of the goal they scored. The ball started one way and swerved the other. Danny had no play on it and I think you are being harsh on Danny. It was simply a good strike.

As for Porter - I agree I don't want him in the backs but what did he do wrong in the game last night? Not much I saw....

Sash was poor, we really missed the runs and hassle that Matty S provides and that also hurt Dylan as he never got the ball unless it was in the air....

LOL @ Kareem slagging Danny's positioning for the goal

f**khead post of the season so far. Maybe he should train using Fifa09 and not bother with the real stuff.

List of HAL keepers who would have had any chance whatsoever of getting near it = 0

Sash was more than poor. His desicion making was woeful and his touch and passing was inept. Very out of character for Sash. Lets hope he bounces back next week. Bojic in the centre was brilliant, also wilko looked more comfortable with him there. Can not wait for Heff to be back, Dapuzzo and tadrosse are bench players at best.

With Heff back soon, what would the backline be?

I'd go for

Boogs  Bojic  Wilko  Heff

Thats wher Boogs played while Viddy was in am i right? Also when our defence was at its strongest.

That's a great backline.  Pretty sure Boogs was on the side last year.  Pedj was absolutely awesome last night.  Did he pick another yellow blowing up big time at Sarah Ho?  The most animation from any of the team all game.

One good thing to come out of last night was that at least we didn't play as bad as we did against Wellington.  But still an awful display.

The worst thing - the pitch.  How no-one was seriously injured is beyond me.  Wasn't there something written about how the surface was going to be ready to go, it had been worked on etc.  At least Melbourne had Andre Rieu to blame.  Pretty sure I saw a whole heap of goats shaking their heads and muttering that they wouldn't be seen dead on that 'track'.  Somebody needs their arse kicked big time.

Is anyone else worried that we seem totally incapable of scoring more goals then the opposition.  Hey a draw is a point I know but if we want to do better than 4th then we had better find a way of putting more goals in the back of the net then everyone else.  Lets change it up, crack a few from outside, work it in close etc.  Keep the defense guessing.  At the moment it's the same as last season.  The defense knows to pack the box and wait - because most of the time we'll f**k it up.

One last thing - why have we moved away from the 3 up the front?  I know last night Matty wasn't available.  But in the last 2-3 games it seems that we've abandoned a formation that worked so well.  It was exciting and we dominated.  It looks like we've returned to the formation of old and we've stalled.

The difference between the first 60 and the last 30 minutes was huge the first 60 was the Roar the last 30 ours.

My day gave an odd perspective on this. Only made the 2nd half having been at a wedding.
I would have said the last 45+2 was ours and it was both surprising and disappointing we only managed the equaliser.

Still, was well worth the effort to be there for Gump's goal.

8,995 might have been ordinary (but very similar to our neighbouring pop. 4 million city's crowd againts the same team last round, I might add) but we did exuberation well at the 83rd!

well, the FIFA09 result is in:

Mariners 1 (d-mac)
QLD 1 (van-shite)

bear in mind that FIFA09 has predicted 5 of the last 6 results and 2 of the last 6 scorelines

FIFA09 strikes again!!!!

OK, I may be a little harsh... but what's with old man Sash??? I lost count of how many times he was caught offside AGAIN last night. Is it not possible for him to make his runs a sec later rather than get nicked for it evey time???

We really missed Matty upfront last night with his pace and hassling runs thats for sure.

Funny that we only seem to fire up in the dying minutes and down a goal.... when are the lads going to kick into gear from the whistle and play the full 90 as they do in the last 10-15mins, the intensity was fantastic!!!

Hopefully Lawrie will swallow his pride and start Gumps.

Osman should take an early plane.

The pitch was obviously tailor made for the half time entertainment. CCF demo of small sided games so the pitch had to resemble Pluim 1.

How did Sasho miss the point blank header.

How did Heff go in the youth?

Biggest BAD of the day was that imbecile on the PA. Will some one tell him the microphone means he doesn't have to scream and he should know who we are playing.

Kareem, you are absolutely INCORRECT in relation to Sergio's free kick.

Danny had no chance stopping that Exocet Missile, especially being partially blinded by the fast-closing D'Apuzzo and one other defender standing directly in between Sergio & Vukovic. The strike was simply far too good, even Buffon would have had major difficulty with that one.

Good to see that you actually admit to being wrong. Must have been extraordinarily hard for you to post, with all of your long years and vast experience in such matters. May your rueful admissions of errors happen MUCH more often.

imo vukovic should be training on fifa 09 rather than on the pitch so that he can save free kicks like that.

thank f**k jedinak didn't get another yellow

I think Heff will be back in fairly soon. He did quite well in youth and hit the post with a header. Also made some good forward runs in the first half. He played the first half in midfield and switched to fullback in the second.
