Rd 4 Sydney vs Mariners

I don't think people should be focusing on the contact or lack of contact on Perez, but more so the fact that Reddy came out at Perez's feet after he was beaten and could have obstructed his path to the ball. I don't think I've seen that happen when it hasn't been a penalty, unless the player clearly dives in real time (not half speed replays of multiple angles with time to think).

Sydney shouldn't complain too much They were gifted a soft goal and had very few chances other than 2 deflections to hit the post.
And then the poor offside call which was clearly on side.

Neither team played well, but Perez dominated when he came on and made Nicky Carle look no better or no more creative than Jamie McMaster with a hangover.

Arnold needs a goal scorer ASAP.

And 6 bays worth of FREE tickets to only get 10,000 in Sydney for their first home game? They moved us to the corner for 5 kids and 3 dads.

I missed the game unfortunately but from all the comments it sounds like GA has his playmaker in Perez.(Was that three cheers for Arnie?)
I just hope we all give the little guy a great welcome to BT.

Can confirm. We definitely have an AM.
If our strikers now step up - we're away.

Regarding Patricio,

Bex is certainly correct in that its easier to make an impact as the first sub by either side on the park at the 50 min mark. And yes when coaches tactically target you life gets harder.

But happily from my experience I'm already convinced that Perez provided he stays fit, is the HYPE. And WILL take this league by storm.

How many players come on and fail to make a significant impact in their first game? Most.
How many make a good impact? A few.
How many look like they are as good as the best players out there? Not many.
How many come on and actually look like the best player on the field??
Thats rare.

You could see it with Ifil. And you can see it with Perez. And thats bloody exciting.

Will he be consistant? I suspect so, as he just looks too skilful not to regularly impact. Again like Ifil, even when he has by his own admission a shocker, he still manages to score one of the best goals of the season.

Will Perez just be closed down and bullied off the ball? Players will struggle to close him down or mark him out of the game much more so than say Skoko or Carle I think.
It's his first touch into space and awareness. It's clearly at a higher level. Honestly could well be the best I've seen in the A league to date - you could hear Harpers tongue slap onto the screen! But it's also that he's happy to receive - nay calling for the ball in tight areas and then his confidence on the ball itself was clear. Then you move onto his passing range and timing... again was a cut above. And the finish on that header??!!

f**king hell. that is serious class people. If we had a striker who could do that in the past we'd have won the league three times.

But two question marks still remain...

Will he stay fit? Only time will tell.

Whats his ticker like?
When Muscat/leijer undoubtedly give him a kick and clatter next game, we'll probably find out. But hopefully big forwards putting themselves about will limit the attention he can be given and with Bozanic and Weemacs movement also it will make it hard and isky just to single out Perez - unlike Carle with SFC imo.

In summary, if this guy stays fit and can take a hit.
I sincerely believe we may very likely be looking at the best player so far to wear the shirt.

Bring on Friday.

A nice start by Patricio but lets not get carried away just yet. It was only 30 minutes on the pitch. I am sure that the adrenalin was pumping for him in his first game which can have a great affect on a player. What I am interested in seeing is having him fully fit when the opposition has cottoned on to his skill. That will be the test.

Having said that it was a great performance off the bench and bodes well for the season. Have we found our talisnman? I think a measure of success will be how well he can control the midfield, take on defenders and set up the strikers. A lack of English may present a problem however if he develops a good understanding with the boys he should be electrifying. Made Carle look pedestrian in my opinion.

I just pose a question regarding the penalty - when you've beaten the keeper, there's noone near enough to tackle you (besides said keeper), you only have to tap in a simple open goal, why would you "dive"? I find it hard to believe someone of his experience would throw away a simple goal just to hope that the ref will give a penalty, then have to hit the penalty & hope you're good enough to beat the keeper (Muscat in the GF comes to mind) from the spot. Logic then says he was in fact clipped, minimal contact admittedly but enough to upset his balance and cause him to fall so therefore a penalty.
I make no comment as to whether it deserved a red card, I just enjoyed that as a bonus :)

EXCLUSIVE: The FFA have moved swiftly to come down hard on divers and suspended the two players who went to ground for penalties in the weekend's game.

It's understood that Central Coast Mariners' Patricio Perez and Perth Glory's Michael Baird have been given two game suspensions for simulation.

Perez won a penalty and got Sydney FC keeper Liam Reddy dismissed for crashing to the ground in the box soon after he came on in his A-league debut.

He scored from the spot to level the scores and give the Mariners a share of the points.

Likewise Glory's Baird also went to ground with no apparent contact in his A-League debut match against Melbourne Heart to deny the competition newcomers their first ever competitive victory.

The ensuing penalty ensured Perth maintained their unbeaten record this season.

Meanwhile Sydney FC keeper Liam Reddy will escape any ban following his dismissal for the Perez incident.

The FFA later confirmed the sanctions following a meeting of the Match Review Panel consisting of Barry Such (Chair), Simon Micallef and Alan Davidson.

A statement added: "The MRP firstly considered an Obvious Error (Red Card) Application by [Reddy].

"The Obvious Error Application was upheld and, accordingly, the Red Card is expunged from the record of the player and he is not required to serve a sanction.

"The MRP considered whether [Perez] had committed an act of simulation that was not detected by the referee during the match.

"In doing so the MRP determined that the player committed simulation and accordingly the MRP imposed a sanction of two matches. This is the mandatory sanction prescribed under the A-League Disciplinary Regulations for such an offence.

"[In] the circumstances surrounding the penalty awarded to Michael Baird (Perth Glory) in or around the 92nd minute of Perth Glory’s match against Melbourne Heart on Sunday, the MRP considered whether the player had committed an act of simulation that was not detected by the referee during the match.

"In doing so the MRP determined that the player committed simulation and accordingly the MRP imposed a sanction of two matches."

Mariners shock at Perez ban
The Central Coast Mariners have expressed their extreme disappointment at Football Federation Australia’s (FFA) decision to suspend Mariners midfielder Patricio Perez for simulation following the side’s 1-all draw with Sydney FC on Saturday night.

“The player (Perez) is adamant that there was some sort of contact by Reddy on his trailing left leg, and we are 100% behind him”, said Mariners CEO John McKay.

“The club was provided footage of the incident by FFA and after reviewing it with our Football staff we are at a complete loss as to how the Match Review Panel (MRP) could come to a conclusion that there was definitely no contact.”

Perez will be forced to sit out Friday’s home match against Melbourne Victory and the following Friday night’s fixture against Melbourne Heart, also at Bluetongue Stadium, with disciplinary regulations stating that there is no right of appeal once the MRP has handed down its decision.

“It’s disappointing under these circumstances that we’re not able to state our case, and what is even more disappointing is that Patricio has basically been branded a professional cheat without any recourse to profess his innocence,” McKay said.

The Central Coast Mariners will not be making any further comment regarding this issue.

Don't comment ... just appeal it!

FFA are just a laughing stock.

Complete fools.

Also why not suspend Breeze for being worse than useless.

Why not suspend the linesman for costing us the game.

These clueless idiots just make it up as they go along. Absolute f**kWITS.

Wow this is hard to take. We finally get a 50/50 go our way with Breeze and we end up worse off. When I think about all the crap that Muscat has gotten away with over the years it really makes my blood boil.

F**king amazing! Pathetic.

So, the game is now decided post-match by arm chair experts, who are no doubt in Sydney FC's pocket?

Everyone agrees that either the video points to contact, or is inconclusive. So how the f**king hell can these FFA wankers rule no contact and suspend possibly the League's most exciting player for two weeks!

Fair dinkum, it's enough to tear up your season ticket and go watch State league or EPL instead. This is sooooo reminiscent of 'old football' from the NSL days. Corrupt.

Diabolical. Criminal. No wonder the A-League crowds are dwindling when fixes like this are so blatant.

I'll add another to your list - what is the penalty for Clubs repeatedly showing controversial incidents on the big screen to incite the fans and influence the referee?

For Sydney? A big fat f**king nothing I'll bet. Try it anywhere else and there'd be whopping fine.

I just hope that this just spurs the Mariners and Perez to shove it up the FFA's collective arses.
