For me, i'm looking for continued improvement over next season and beyond. We can wish for what we like but we won't be spending what most (if not any) other sides are. A leader at the back (CB, Wilko preferably), a top AM and the addition of Hersi would make us a much better, balanced side. If we can use our connections better in the off season and snag a Everton youngster and maybe a rough diamond or 2 ?Fletcher will be an excellent addition once he's fit. If Luis hangs around for a much reduced salary and gets fitter that's even better. Something like this as a starting side......
...........................................Izzo..........................................................................................
Storm...............................Uskok/Ascroft..........................New CB.................Micky Neill
................................Monty..............Liam Rose..................................................................
Fabio.......................................................New AM.............................Hersi........................
.....................................................Roy................................................................................

To me the side has lost all confidence apart from a couple of players and we need to rebuild that.

Frankly, I think the Izzo thing is a bit of hard-headedness. He is contracted until the end of next year. Bray is not. It may be that Izzo isn't going to get another move before his contract runs out, and that the club hopes to get a Reddy-replacement #1 to allow Izzo to be the #2 he was signed to be.

In that circumstance, in a season that was toast from 10 weeks in, we're better off playing the guy with a contract and looking to improve him. Playing Bray is to fatten up a pig we'll never get to sell. Unless Izzo's going somewhere I think it's unlikely we're going to have him next year.

FWIW, Izzo is definitely getting better. Didn't do a lot wrong in Adelaide and actually came out really well a few times, in spite of having utterly shambolic defence in front of him.

Even Carrusca's goal I think was a lot harder than it looked - came from behind Djite, dipped savagely and bounced in the keeper-killer zone right in front of his fists where it skidded on the wet grass. Seriously, it was a frickin hard shot to stop.

That the Fox commentators shat on him afterwards should come as no surprise, what surprises me is that the folks on here complain about Fox commentators shitting on the Mariners except when they shit on the Mariner they love to hate.

This is true - but he does have a lot of work to do to make him a more complete keeper. As you said Izzo was signed as the #2 keeper. THB while a talent also has a deal still to learn. We need a more complete first choice keeper. We simply don't know if that is Bray because of limited opportunities and injury. If Bray is uninjured and in better form at training then it is up to Nash to push his case for selection. If he is not in better form then we need to look further for a true #1.

Yeah - in fairness to Izzo and outside of the heat of the game-time, I still rate him above Pasfield... There was just a sense with Pasfield that something could go wrong every single time the ball was in the area... With Izzo it's fairly specific moments.

Not that that's a high bar to set, but it's a starting point... I actually don't think that he's a horrid option as a second keeper and I agree that he's improved quite a bit over the season.
Look at Thomas at Victory - he was an unstable prospect last year, but looking decent this year, so who knows :)

There's a growing school of thought among the victory fanbase that Danny is past it and LT should take the gloves permanently.

Izzo was not out well more than once Dibo. Didn't you see the serve Garcia gave him?

Dipping shots are hard. But there was a reason he hung his head afterwards. Was a very poor game imo and i'd been trying to be honest week in week out and not lynch anyone and take youth strongly into account. But personally i dont think he'll be HAL suited for a couple more years.

Given he's 20, and originally signed as a #2, that's not a surprise.

He came out well at least twice - I can think of at least once in the first half and once in the second.

We need... 1. New Keeper

Storm/Posco 2. New CB. Uskok/Ascroft/Posco 3. New LB

Fab Monty 4. New DM and 5. New AM Austin

6. New striker to partner Roy would be nice.

Thomas looked like a good prospect last year. A solid reserve keeper.
Izzo looks like a flakey reserve keeper.
Where is Velaphi these days???.....surely he is better than Izzo.

That's my point. I don't think Izzo looks horrific as a reserve keeper - just not a great #1.
What's Jordans keeper up to? He has berm like a brick wall for the last 20 minutes ;-)

Sorry that was poorly worded.
"Izzo was not out well more than once Dibo."
I meant as in, he came out poorly, more than once.
You're right he did also come out well a few times also.

I do agree re his age and signing as a #2 - they're fair points and on balance I'd thought we'd been being too harsh on him on here, but I thought he was very poor yesterday and think he needs to stay a 2 for a deal longer if we're to snuff out the costly unforced errors any time soon. As a keeper it's harsher than a DM giving away a few cheap balls or what have you... you're mistakes cost goals and games more often than not. But what you gonna do?

Can't blame izzo he's been surrounded by an incompetence defence all season and coached by a state league coach in Nash and managed by an under performing TW all season, no wonder his confidence isn't exactly riding high.

About right Wombat though i think Micky Neill is a starting LB and Liam Rose is developing into a class act and i would continue developing him.....he has been close to our best in the last few games. Can't see us buying a new keeper, i like Izzo, he is a season away from been ready, but think the club will continue his development. With a better squad he will not be under so much pressure. I think Fletcher will prove to be a capable partner/ for Roy. I'd also like to see Hersi in on the left to compete with Austin. TW has come out and stated the club will look at 4 good, experienced players and that would be about right.

Can I have some of what ever people are drinking.

He didn't even get a hand on the first goal. Sydney FC bad was that error. Changed the momentum in a fragile team.

He is not even the best keeper at our club, so selling him is a pipe dream right now. He needs to be dropped to know these errors are not acceptable but the back ups are always injured or still popping pimples.

He has ability but playing as our No1 is not the place for him to learn until he fixes his inabilities at a lower level.

We are the worst defence ever. The yellow glasses need to come off.
Time for hard decisions.

But it won't happen

Watching Soccerooos after us shows how far we have to come.

Obviously the skill levels are very different but the tactical use of the ball is excellent.

They work it around at the back when necessary then go outside (as do we) but then vary it either back inside or stay wide if appropriate. If they come inside like they do a lot they then either go back out for a cross or try slip a ball through. The variations are great and results in good shots at the top of the box or good crossing opportunities or nice through balls.

We are to 1 dementional. Wide, wide then wide.
We really need midfielders that can help us vary our attack.

Thank god....we are buying a new keeper!!!
That alone should ensure Scum and the Nix fight over the spoon next year.

Yes.....he has to shoulder the blame. THE DEFENSIVE STRUCTURE IS TERRIBLE and ive harped on about the need for a defensive coach but Izzo is very very sub standard.

He was signed as a #2 keeper and has been left all at sea by what at best could be called amateur defending most of the season. As I understand he's made the most saves in the league this season which should give you some idea of his ridiculous workrate. Give him a chance behind sound defence he'd probably handle it a lot better.

None of that is to say he doesn't have some huge flaws - his long kicking game isn't great and he'd be a horrible tradie (can't set a wall). I hope we keep him because I think he has plenty of potential but as Wombat indicates we need to invest in a better shot-stopper who is capable of being #1 at an A-League club.
