It's March 2016 and you're somehow certain the squad will be "starved" again in 16/17?

Please.

Well if Koichiro Fukushima starts issuing us our usual cards,
then the Yellow's :yellowcard: will fluoresce and the Red's :redcard: will be radioactive.

Definitely no Tsunami of fan's expected either.

My interest in this game is at the same level as my jokes about the Ref ...... apathetic at best :-|

People when prices are too high: "they should reduce prices"

People when they reduce prices: "Oh ticket sales must be struggling"

:headbutt:
It doesn't take a genius to work it out.

There is 2 reasons they are discounting 3 days out from the match and that is to increase volume and to reward the length of committment for members...this offer bundles those together.

Rose aiming to be a thorn in Arnold's side:
gettyimages-508690718.jpg

Veteran Central Coast Mariners defender Josh Rose said Sydney FC coach Graham Arnold was and still is a mentor to him, but none of that will matter for 90 minutes as the two teams desperately seek a win at Central Coast Stadium on Saturday.

The Sky Blues need three points to try to get back in the race for the finals, having slipped to seventh off the back of an eight-game winless run that includes five losses. They are three points behind sixth-placed Melbourne Victory with four rounds to go.

The last-placed Mariners, coming off six straight losses and having already been condemned to the club's first wooden spoon, need the three points to try to start restoring some pride before the long off-season break.

Rose played for Central Coast under Arnold in the 2012-2013 grand final, in which they beat Western Sydney Wanderers 2-0. John Hutchinson, now assistant coach at the Mariners, also played in that game. Current Mariners captain Nick Montgomery would have played, but was out suspended.

The players in that great Mariners team, which also included Australia goalkeeper Mathew Ryan and Socceroos central defender Trent Sainsbury, are known to remain tight and they maintain great respect for Arnold as well. He is the same with them.

"'Arnie' was a big part of my life when I first moved to the Mariners and I spent a good three-and-a-half years with him there," Rose said.

"He's not just a coach when he's in charge of a team, he takes more of a personal role in your life as well and helps you with all situations, so you definitely get very, very close to him and, yeah, we still talk and he helps me out a lot, on and off the field.

"We talk fairly regularly, or we'll send the odd text. When he does well I'll congratulate him and vice versa. He's been a mentor to me, very much so. I think he enjoys that role of mentoring his players as much as coaching them."

But when the pair go head-to-head in a game, the professional in 34-year-old Rose takes over and he shuts everything else out.

"Yeah, definitely, it's not hard to do that," he said. "I've played against previous coaches and team-mates many times over the years. As soon as game-day comes the build-up takes over and once you get out on that field it's all about your team and doing your job."

After the game against Sydney, the Mariners have tough away games against Adelaide United and the Wanderers, followed by a home-game derby against Newcastle Jets. Rose said it was vitally important Central Coast put a smile on their fans' faces in the time that is left.

"We've had a very tough season and the rest of the season for us is about trying to restore some pride," he said.

"Especially with the two games left at home. We really want to win these home games and give the fans something to cheer about before the season's up.

"We want to give something back to those who have stood by us.

"Sydney have been struggling the last few weeks and every game for them now is like a little grand final to try to get themselves back into that top six, so it's going to be a tough game, but we're definitely going out for the win."

Rose said that beyond the last month of the regular season, the crucial thing for everyone at the club was to review the season honestly and make sure they fix things going into next season.

"We need to get things right on the field and that comes down to us, as players, and the coaching staff," he said. "The club will need to recruit well in the off-season and the players will need to step up and do a better job.

"We can't just write this season off, we need to look at it and review it and see where we went wrong and learn from our mistakes.

"As players we've made a lot of mistakes and we need to learn from that. If we do, we can be better for it next season."

Can't believe I'm going to suggest it :tinfoilhat:

BUT ....... Zac Anderson wasn't too bad for SydFC in their ACL game in Korea against Pohang Steeler's. Helped SFC keep their clean sheet in the dying stages of the game, making diving tackles & clearances in and around the box.

Being an ex-Mariner, Arnie may be tempted to give him a run based on his performance in Pohang, hoping he'll lift against his former club.

Likewise Matty Simon, who was tireless in his work-rate defending from the front against Pohang.

Depends on how they all fare from the 36hrs of travel back to Aus??? Which will definitely benefit us.

We HAVE TO push the pace of the game if were to get anything out of this one.

I don't think Zac's started for Sydney in the regular league - at all - has he? I thought Arnie's whole approach was to keep him in the ACL mainly, to save his defence for the A-league.
Be interesting to see what he does with Matty though...

As least we might get a decent Ref for a change.
Hey I know I have harped on about bad refereeing but after reading coach Warmsley's article eadlined "Warmsley's Patience Is Finally Wearing Thin" on the second last page of the Express Advocate may I suggest to him that maybe just maybe the fans might be wearing thin and losing their patience having to endure probably the worst coach ever to set foot on an football field, lacklustre, unimaginative, abysmal and probably worse than Moss. Warmsley to put it bluntly you are CRAP! Do us all a great favour and leave now so we can salvage a little pride and rebuild WITHOUT YOU! By the way thank you so much for securing the wooden spoon for us I am sure we all appreciate it so much, I hear the train whistle blowing all aboard Warmsley!

BLUFFER’S GUIDE

Last weekend, Sydney FC’s first half capitulation against the Phoenix has put their Hyundai A-League campaign on the brink.

The Sky Blues are now three points adrift of the top six with four games left.

Graham Arnold’s men have now failed to win in their last eight league outings.

And their task hasn’t been made any easier after a multi-leg flight to and from South Korea this week.

Though a morale-boosting 1-0 win over Pohang Steelers on Wednesday night in ACL will have brightened the mood, this punishing travel schedule will test the squad's recovery with the Sky Blues arriving back in the Harbour City on Friday morning.

The Mariners’ loss to the Glory last weekend confirmed the club’s first ever wooden spoon, with Tony Walmsley’s side 13 points adrift of ninth placed Wellington.

The hosts will be without Mitch Austin and Luis Garcia after the duo were dismissed in Perth, while defender Tomislav Uskok is likely to miss with a lower leg injury.

Central Coast will be buoyed by their strong recent home record against the Sky Blues, with the Yellow and Navy winning five and drawing three of their last 10 matches in Gosford.

OPTA DATA

- Sydney FC have won their last five matches against Central Coast Mariners, the longest streak of any team in the history of this fixture.

- The Mariners have conceded 70% of their goals in the second half of league games (39 goals) – 14 goals more than any other club.

- After consecutive losses Sydney FC sit on the precipice of three straight defeats for the first time since Round 4, 2013/14.

- Only once before in A-League history (5 matches, 2005/06 Final – Rd 4, 2006/07) have Central Coast gone more matches without scoring a goal than they currently have (3 games).

ROUTE TO GOAL

Both sides have struggled in front of goal this season with Central Coast (26 goals) and Sydney (28 goals) the league’s second and third worst attacking sides respectively, ahead of only Newcastle Jets (21).

The loss of Milos Ninkovic appeared to stifle Sydney’s attacking output last weekend and they will be hoping the likes of David Carney and Milos Dimitrijevic can provide some much needed thrust in the final third.

Carney and Shane Smeltz are fresh after missing the trip to Pohang and will almost certainly start across the front three.

Marquee Filip Holosko is also likely to return to the starting line-up after being relegated to the bench last weekend against Wellington.

The Mariners will be forced into a reshuffle with the absence of suspended duo Mitch Austin and Luis Garcia.

Josh Bingham, Brad McDonald and the speedy Trent Buhagiar are options for Tony Walmsley on the flank, while Liam Rose is likely to slot into the vacant playmaker role.

Central Coast have failed to score in their last three matches and will look to the experience of Roy O’Donovan and Fabio Ferreira to provide a spark up top.

WHO’S BEEN IN THE SPOTLIGHT THIS WEEK?

Mariners’ discipline. Luis Garcia and Mitch Austin picked up needless red cards against the Glory, taking the side’s tally to a league-worst nine dismissals in 23 matches this season.

FORM LINES

Central Coast Mariners: LLLLL

Sydney FC: LDDLL

PREDICTION

Central Coast Mariners 1 Sydney FC 1

Will be interesting to see how TW sets the starting 11 out, especially if Uskok becomes unavailable due to the lower leg injury.
