ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

Every football club has them; it goes with the territory but I have never understood it.

. i thought we started well ... with intent. with that purpose we were playing more like a team - it actually looked like the team had played together before and it hasn't felt like that for a while. it is particularly odd considering the line-up has changed so much recently

. i have been critical of the midfield recently and have struggled to understand how a 5-man midfield can turn-over so much ball. in this case though, some pretty piss-poor defending brought us unstuck and wow did things unravel quickly

. all the intent disappeared well before things became embarrassing

. to throw the yellow-tinted glasses back on though ... shut down a couple of those soft defensive lapses + sterj coulda/shoulda had a hat-trick and things take on a whole different complexion. perhaps a bit of confidence could have been earned to take intent into the next game. hopefully a trip to korea doesn't drop the confidence levels even further

The back four has to change!

Hutcho actually playing a decent game complicates things slightly....can he still play at this level...can he be a catalyst rather than a millstone?

Us playing an isolated striker......regardless of if its Matty or Duke.........it's a stupid and flawed strategy ......are we going to wait until we are holding the Scum's wooden spoon before we react.

I have listened patiently to the eggheads try and intellectualise a game that they themselves cannot play.

How the f**k does playing two DM's in a side that clearly can't defend and is lazy in attack going to end in anything other than tears.
Do you think that Musc**t as a player sat there analysing every play and possible move....no he simply had a desire not to be beaten and gave 100% every game. It's not Chess people...it's f**ken Football. I hate Muscat with a passion and would love to slap him around BUT he was head and shoulders above our defenders when he played. My point is you don't have to be technically brilliant to be a success to carry your team. Our LB was the perfect example....yet on his debut he showed more heart than everyone apart from Duke and Monty.

It's a simple game.

1. Want it more than your opponent.
2. Dominate your opponent.
3. Make it happen.....this year so many of our players have hidden and waited for they teammates to do it for them. When you pass the ball it doesn't end there.....you have to move into space to receive it back or drag a defender out of position to make an opening.
4. Relax on the ball. This year we are playing like headless chooks.
5. If you don't perform you don't play next week. Too many of our players are too comfortable and Mossy needs to be more ruthless.

Looking forward to the game against Sydney when we will either redeem our season or end up getting the wooden spoon.

My 11 for next week.

This was perhaps the biggest positive of the game, for me... For a short while there, in the first half, they actually started to gel... You could see it happen, started off with a bit of intent... Stealing the ball here and there, trying a couple of slightly cheekier passes that succeeded - barely.. Ball would come on a bit too har, roll off the feet but they'd JUST manage to control it.. Then, especially after the goal, the ball actually started arriving at the right pace and we started to look more and more like a unit... I actually agree with the sentiment that we looked alright in the first half... Not brilliant, but at least the boys looked like they knew what they were doing.
Then came the second half and we were back to the appaling displays in the family of the first couple of games of the season... It's like they have never played together before, they have no clue who is going where.
I was watching the game with my father in law... He used to play, enjoys a game but isn't an avid watcher... He was getting so frustrated watching us he almost just went and did the dishes ;)... His comments revealed a LOT of frustration with the lacking work-rate and the enormous defensive gaps... How the ball would come down at the feet of the Phoenix players and the players would just stand there, locked knees, waiting for it to come to them, and almost look surprised when the Wellington player moved away fro them.
I hope to God that Moss is right and a quick trip away will help the team gel a bit, because I don't know how much more of this I can take... Don't get me wrong, I'll be renewing my membership, obviously... But good God... I've stated it about a million times now... I don't mind us losing... I don't love it obviously, but I can deal with it... If they at least look like they're trying... But this was just ridiculous.

What happened my roses coloured glasses had no signal in the second half. They were perfect in the first half. Took them off & everyone had gone & we lost 4-1. Must have been a bad dream.

I actually wasn't that disappointed. Thought we played well in the first half & can't see down the other end to see how bad we defended. Just kept seeing Kiwi's hugging like they had found there lost sheep.

It's just time we are getting better - sounds silly but we played a strong 45. Problem was they started drinking the beers at half time instead of the gatorade.

Losing breeds losing was definately responsible for that effort. We are switching off for short periods but every time we do we conceed.

Eddie I like - I don't consider him soft - He has produced some of the fiercest tackles but unforetunately they are at the start of the game. He does appear slow however & has been out of position at key moments. Hopefully some match fitness fixes this.

Sim was a delight to watch but horribly out of position when it came to tracking back. Rosey has it all over him here. I thought he was advertised more as a left sided player than a LB & his attacking insticts showed this but he was to high up the park when we didn't have the ball or wasn't tracking far enough back.

I couldn't really tell from wear I sit but the 3rd & 4th goals Eddie & Sim seemed to be no where.

How many ping pong goals are we going to conceed. Adelaide last week when bosnar put a foot out & it went to the open guy at top of box for easy goal. Then the Nix goal comes off storm & bounces to an unmarked cunningham I think it was.

Sterj has been awful after his announcement but was great prior.

Duke was good alot more threating with Kim providing some through balls. I think Duke will work well with Kim just like he did with flores. He needs balls to run onto - He is not a heskey type player.

Berni just disappeared - Why did the backs not give him the ball - Was he lazy & out of position or they just panic & hoofed it? I couldn't see him as he on the otherside but just felt he never even touched the ball 2nd half.

Hutch & Monty were great 1st half.

To leave or not to leave.

Well my misus was getting the shits. This is crap I'm not watching this if they get 4 i'm going. Gave her a god full support your team.

She upted & left after 4. I stayed. I said you have to support the team. They are trying but in football the scoreline can be an unfare reflection of the game. When you chase it you give up the 4th. Nope I come I pay my hard urned & if i'm not entertained why sit here getting angry & frustrated. Fair point. There seemed to be many a casual & even hardcore unhappy. They do have a right but I don't like it. Give a rousing boo after woods to let em know is more my style.

I also said they played better tonight than they did against the roar or MV (1st time) at home when they were played off the park but due to inept finishing we drew & lost to a late goal. You didn't leave then.

The score board frustrated many more than the game I'd say.

Didn't switch on after half time - Punished
Didn't switch on after conceding the 2nd - Punished.

SFC beat MV 5-0 a few weeks ago but I swear they only had 3 or 4 shots on goal in the first half & lead 3 nil at half time.

Sometimes in football you have 1 shot all game & score & others you have 20 & don't score. We are getting punished for every mistake at the moment. Roar 2-1 (bad pass at the death), AU 2 unlucky rebounds went to unmarked players for goals. Sterj misses a penalty. Nix score 3 in 10mins when we switch off & off rebounds.

Our backs are new pairing & need time to gel.

Come On You Yellow & Blue

Nek minnit - winning again - resumes seat....

She's welcome to sit in prawn sandwich seats. Last time she did that we beat Sydney 1-0 (back in December). We've not won a game when she's been in the bay, since we got together. Best we've had was the 0-0 with Heart.

Now I just gotta break the news.

If you can name one team successfully playing 2 strikers week in week out I might soften my stance

What leagues do you want?
A few do successfully play 2 strikers
But it's rare

Highest profile would have to be juventus maybe?
But I don't watch that much serie A

I do agree that 2 strikers is outdated...but it can still work...
