I'm rusted on.

And I'm not yet in the TW out camp but I would like to see some different decisions. Including not being so open in the media a week in advance about who we're going to play and with what tactics. It's very hard to know what goes on at training of course, what's being developed, is it a good program and all that.

If we're playing hypotheticals though - does Luis have his coaching badges?

Result was immaterial to me once the Roux injury happened. Frustrating, sad, annoying to concede four goals but also not surprising.

Should hear something on his diagnosis tomorrow morning.

Poor game, but I'm not sure why so many people are surprised or taking it further to heart. It's the same issues. Because we're still a team largely comprised of very inexperienced players that are playing superior and more experienced teams who have been playing without any major disruption all year. It's the same. I know that's frustrating, but we've all known why for months haven't we??

A combination of money ball, losing our senior leadership and rotten apples - and though we tried to get around it, to be clear, it doomed us from the get go, and so now we have to deal with it.

The club has clearly tried, but the only "miracle cure" is four (maybe five) high quality experienced and costly players, and even then it almost certainly requires another pre season.

Stella, Fletcher, mcDonald...even Louis, were never going to turn our season on its head, so I can't point the bone at Tony, because it's beyond improbable that any other coach could win with our current squad either. But there is a lot of great young talent in this side, it's just too early for half of them still, but what option have we had?

When we started this year under TW, we played well, and EVERYONE agreed that we looked like we might be a truly exciting attacking machine. But we had dissent BEFORE we'd kicked a ball in earnest. That dissent translated into an already threadbare squad now drastically lacking depth, experience and leadership. Add a headbutt here, a hamstring there...and it was season over. So now they're blooding even more youth. As they should. But of course it's not fixing anything.

This is the reason I'm not in the TW out camp.

I hate getting carved up by Mooy, Garuccio and Fornaroli or being monstered by Malik, Wilko and Kisnorbo as much as the next fan... but to think TW has the means at hand to alter that right now, while desirable - is simply untrue. Even a 'supercoach' couldn't do it.

So I'll be 'Tony in' until he has a pre season and a properly balanced team and dressing room of his own. After that, if the first 6 games look anything like the present. Then he should be booted without hesitation and with certainty. But for now, it could very well be a severe and costly misdiagnosis.

The philosophy was perilous from the get go, but the only obvious 'coaching' mistakes I've seen are a few of his selections and some of the positional experiments (though he's got some right too) But what I have seen very clearly, is that he is truly passionate, caring and committed to this club long term. Not just a careerist using us as a stepping stone. That counts for something in my book. In fact it counts a lot in my book...

Enough that I'll actually see out this f**king calamitous season and make my mind up on whether we should lynch our admiral, when we can finally get back into port to repair a hull that was breached beyond repair many months ago.

Hang him from the yard arm now and we won't see any change till next year anyway, and we'll never know if we just hung a really good man who was shit out of luck. And luck always turns in my experience.

I hate posco so much right now. One tackle will cost us the game.

You can't, ...well I can't 'hate' on a player who's been working his arse off due to every player in front of him failing to keep possesion which in turn puts the pressure straight back on him in the main defensive role (Posco & Ascroft) having to make desperate challenges and make them regularly.

That 'one goal'
definitely didn't cost us the game. There were & are (off the pitch) a multitude of reasons of why we lost the game.

I think Posco's been one of the most consistent this season, in both performances and effort/work rate ....... which to me totals up to a 'passion & commitment' to the badge on his chest.

He's running a close second to 1st place Monty in that dept. who didn't have the best of games tonite, but still cant fault the Capt. either in his effort and work-rate ....... just his execution tonite.

Monty wasnt helped by Junior Rose in allowing City to dominate us through the midfield. The stats at half-time were very misleading in this regard with the possesion at City 51% v CCM 49%.

I thought Josh Rose's performance tonite was very sub-standard, putting Ascroft (& ultimately Posco ;)) under considerable pressure at the back.

Playing out & losing possession.
Especially when allowing balls to bounce off the deck when failing to deal with them 1st time in the air on more than one occassion.

Other than getting forward late in the game and having that shot that went wide .....he 'looked like a passenger' in a side that was screaming out for his seniority and experience to help get things back into some semblance of order.

He's looking slower & slower with each game that I see him play, both physically and mentally ....... even his decision making when making passes is looking slower.

Really can't see him making the cut next season.

Don't know if he's seeing the writing on the wall or maybe he's already 'had the chat' with Walmsley, but I think it's time for him to hang up the boot's.

The BIG question he needs to ask himself is, 'would another club want me ???'
I don't think so, not in the A-League certainly.

He might have another season in him playing alongside the Pellegrini's & Brent Griffiths in the less rigorous Malaysian or Thai Leagues, maybe even 2 seasons.

With that in consideration ..........

The next Q he should ask himself is 'retire right now, going-out in a Home game - with applause & appreciation for his loyalty and commitment to the Yellow&Blue or alternatively finishing the season continuing to lose, which would be taking up the space/position that Mickey Neil will most likely be put in to fulfill for next season. ???

I'd say "Go Now" - giving Neil a head start at LB for next season and use the reason above to explain your early retirement, as it would show that your putting the club's future first & foremost.

That would earn you even more respect from those that already have it for him, which I do.

He's been a great clubman along the same lines as Hutcho, not always giving their best performances BUT ALWAYS trying to.

I just didn't see that from Rosey tonite, exactly like Hutcho - before he called it time last year, which was also coincidentally at the end of another similarly poor season.

Walmsley: Mariners must eradicate defensive lapses:
gettyimages-511499370.jpg

Central Coast Mariners coach Tony Walmsley insists his side must clean up the preventable errors which proved costly in a 4-1 defeat to Melbourne City on Sunday.

The competition’s bottom-placed side enjoyed a shock 1-0 lead at the break but shipped three goals quickly after the restart as hopes of a rare victory faded.

Two free-kicks, a penalty and Harry Ascroft’s indecision in letting a ball bounce all contributed to the turnaround, which Walmsley says will be unacceptable in next week’s F3 Derby against Newcastle Jets.

“That’s not good enough, we need to polish up on those,” the Mariners boss said.

“Two set pieces cost us against Adelaide last week. They’re little mistakes that have a big impact on the result.

“There’s a lot of positivity about where we’re heading. About where we are? It’s really painful.”

While next week’s hosting of rivals Newcastle should see the return of Luis Garcia from bone bruising, the immediate future of fullback Storm Roux is less clear.

The New Zealand international was taken to hospital after his right leg stuck in the turf when lunging to block a shot in the second-half.

“We don’t really know how he is yet. He’s not in a good way,” Walmsley said.

“It doesn’t look good and it obviously had an impact on some of our guys after the stoppage in play. It’s lower leg and possibly shoulder as well is all I’ve heard.

“I don’t want to speculate too much but (he’s) not in a good way and obviously all our thoughts are with him at the moment.”

The only silver lining was City's last goal. Maybe TW will finally realise that Izzo has no idea how to set a wall and defend a set piece.

. I don't think we have seen anything to suggest this is likely ... and I am certainly not disagreeing with your sentiment - but Izzo made some good saves last night and that may be used as evidence that he deserves his spot :naughty:

Top marks to the Yellow Army. As Chris said, can certainly hear them loud and clear.

. to be fair I don't think there were many there that would identify as YA (but that is a separate debate)

. cudos again to Shaun, Sharon and anybody else involved in getting the mini-megaphone back into the away bay after it had been confiscated because it had not been approved by the City Group

. seriously this thing was practically a toy brought along by a mature couple ... as some of the security staff suggested power had gone to the head of a couple of their colleagues

. oh ... and at the risk of making too many consecutive posts :p ...

. well done to all those that made the effort to attend the match ...we were pleasantly surprised by the numbers in attendance. Many making the trip down from the Coast, some dis-placed Coasties and we even shared a drink or two with a couple of Victorians who felt the Mariners were the right team for them (rather than the local teams)

Started another thread with an excellent video showing the close-up of the incident in detail.

We don't have to justify ourselves to you

(guess the expression I deleted.)

And you.

No one is asking you to justify yourself or your weak friends.

Your posts here have the same effect on this forum as certain ex players had on the dressing room.

If you can't cope with the rough times, that's your problem, and if you want to leave no one is trying to stop you.

Not happy with the negativity from some fans. Yes, we have had a tough season. Nothing much has gone right. Some is of our own making, but the bottom line is that we have had to make do with a hugely young and inexperienced squad. It's not TW's fault, he knew the finances weren't there and has done his best with the weakest squad the HAL has ever seen. Who else would have taken this on? I say weakest but there are some real diamonds in our squad but there is plainly too many young and inexperienced players who have been asked too much this season. To blame the youngsters is just unfair. It is clear they are all doing their best, if anything they are trying too hard and struggling to compete against superior opposition. The few experienced players we have seem to have been under enormous pressure and need support from a couple more quality experienced players. I'm not enjoying this season much but i'm hopeful for next season, believe in where the club is going and have faith in our young guys. For those that are saying the are going to jump ship, we will not see a season like this for a long time, keep the faith. Add 3 or 4 quality players to this young squad and we will surprise next season.

Absolutely. It is what is is. For mine, we have some great kids, but the bottom line is who we sign after this awful season will determine how we go next year. we need 4 or 5 quality signings. Sometimes great things happen after trying times.

Yeah, that's pretty fantastic that our CEO stepped in to look after the fans. Personally, I think that really means a lot.

We need a proper coach like Mike Mulvey if we are to move Tony upstairs....passing the reins to Hutch at this stage would ensure two wooden spoons.

I try not to let these get to me but AAARRRRHHHHHHGGGHGHGHGHHHHHLLLLHHH! FFS Wombat, NO! Not Mike Mulvey, not f***ing Miron Bleiberg, Mark Rudan, John Kosmina or Frank Farina either...
I stand by my earlier comments, I don't think any coach could do markedly better under the current conditions.
If Walmsley has lost the dressing room, that's another matter, we might have to let him go if he can't hold on to a group of kids like that, but until I see actual proof of that I think it'd be a mistake to get rid of TW. Either way, I don't want to see any of the "Fabulous 5" as our coach.

EDIT: Readability

Walmsley or someone completely out of here, ....

Bit confused about the 'completely out of here' bit ???

Where exactly is here & where will they (a new coach) come from ???

Here
, Australia ?
Are you suggesting a Foreign Coach ???

or maybe someone local/Aust. who's yet to coach in the HAL, unlike most of those you mentioned ???

Keen to hear your suggestions. :)
