Would like to see, Sasho with Dmac or Disco. Matty should get 30mins. Replace Sasho with disco and same scenario.

It's what they have been working on anyway.

First and for most, I like it....

However you are damed if you do and damed if you don't.

For instance:
1) we win the game, there for it is the correct formation.
2) we loss the game, then people ask did we need to change our whole formation due to the loss of one player.

Love the fact that Lawrie is always thinking and is not scared to step outside the square.

Well done Gaf.

Boogs is out with groin injury.

When did that happen?

Saturday...did not train yesterday or today....not even light stuff...has not got out of his boardies and thongs.

Formation will be

         *
*    *    *    *
      *    *
*       *       *
         *

mmm, let me take a stab at this one

--------- danny ---------
porter - wilko - pedj - heff
----- ossy ---- hutch ----
simon --- caceras --- sasho
----------- mac -----------

bench - redders, clarky, gumps, mrdja

While I think you have probably picked the formation that will start. I would love to see Nik start. I think a fit and firing Nik and Matty is essential for us if we want to progress in the final series. The only way that will happen is if he gets more game time.

4231 could work well for us against a team as mobile as Qld.

The classic "Verbeek away from home to counteract pace" formation..... I just hope a lone striker doesn't mean the continuation of of Hoofmania.

Now we've lost Mile I just don't think 4-3-3 will work, he was the main reason why this was working for us IMO due to his strength and positioning.  I don't think the midfielders we have remaining could work in a 3 (most likely Osman, Hutch and Caceres).

Lawrie will revert back to 4-4-2 I believe, it's always been his favourite formation and I don't see why the gaffer would change to a different formation at this stage of the season.

However, given the players we have in the middle available it will be interesting to see if he pulls players out of position?

---------------Danny
Porter-----Wilko-----Pedj-----Heff
-----Osman----Hutch----Gumps
--------------Caceres
---------Matty-----Macca

Bench - Redders, Clark, Sash and Nik

that formation looks good to me dj
the only question mark for me is who is up front but all our strikers are equally effective, its just a matter who is on their game on the day hopefully its the two we start with

So the other Round 19 games:

Adelaide United v Newcastle Jets
Expect Adelaide United to bounce back against a hopeless Newcastle.

Sydney FC v Wellington Phoenix
Expect another Wellington win, another nail in the Sydney coffin.

Perth Glory v Melbourne Victory
Perth have won their last two home games against Melbourne, so why not a third?

I know the feeling. Serious14 provided me with the following link, you may find it useful.

Test cricket and tennis just dont cut it. (Maybe batsmen should celebrate centuries by pulling up their shirts/boxing at the stumps or sliding on their knees instead of waving their bat around.  Maybe crowd numbers would increase if W league players to lift their shirts to celebrate goals?)

Looks the goods! I am hoping that Lawrie plays Os at DM. He does nothing doing forward so maybe this could be a good move for him.

I'd switch sash and mrdja as well

Cant see it myself, he is a central midfielder but I reckon he isnt hard enough to play DM.

He has made RB his own this season and I would expect him to stay there TBH

hmm. adel easy win.
syd may hold a point
perth are still strong, depending on how dave mixes it up, could easily take a point against melb. Is their last home game of the season too, and they have been strong at home this year.

John Hutchinson to take Mile Jedinak's role at Mariners

By Greg Danvers
January 07, 2009 12:00am

JOHN Hutchinson is the man most likely to fill the shoes of departed Socceroo Mile Jedinak at the Central Coast Mariners.

The imposing midfielder has left a big hole after his move to Turkey.

"You just don't find a six-foot-three defensive midfielder, who can also score goals, running about," Mariners coach Lawrie McKinna said yesterday.

"As usual we'll make do with what we've got."

The Mariners have a crunch game against Queensland Roar at Bluetongue Stadium in Gosford on Saturday.

There's more than just the three points on offer. A win will all but assure the Mariners of a finals berth.

And two more wins, against Melbourne and Adelaide in the final two rounds, may just seal a top-two spot for last season's minor premiers.

Selecting the right man to dictate play from the centre of midfield is paramount for the Mariners and Hutchinson is creative enough to do that job.

Training in sweltering conditions at their Budgewoi base yesterday, McKinna was trying different things with the structure of his side.

Hutchinson trained in a holding midfield role.

"We've looked at swapping things about a wee bit," McKinna said.

The Mariners boss was not sure yesterday before his departure for the Asian Champions League draw in Dubai tonight whether to play with a four-man diamond midfield.

"Brad Porter is another one we've thought about (playing in midfield)," McKinna said.

"He's a holding midfielder and Pedj Bojic is another who could possibly play there.

"There are a few boys that could come in and do a job."

Bojic played in the centre of midfield in the NSW Premier League for Sutherland before joining the Mariners.

"He's agile, he's good in the air and he can play (out), but he's doing a great job at centre-half.
