ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

"THE country's brightest goalkeeping prospect heads for a taste of the English Premier League today, determined to show that he is ready for a long-term shot at the big time.

Central Coast custodian Mat Ryan, 20, hopes that a week with Tottenham gives him the chance to show new Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas that he has EPL pedigree and the potential make the leap from the A-League to the A-list of European football.

He has made enough of an impression after two full seasons as the Mariners' first choice that should the week with Spurs not lead anywhere he has opportunities at Premier League rivals West Brom and, possibly, Liverpool.

Widely seen as Mark Schwarzer's long-term replacement in the Socceroos squad, Ryan has been the A-League's goalkeeper of the year twice in a row as well as its Young Player of the Year.

"This is such a good opportunity, the chance to train with one of the best teams in the EPL, maybe the world," he said. "So far as I know it's the first team I'll be working with, as there was a debate over whether to try to get me over before the tour of America they've just finished.

"They decided to wait, so now it's up to me to show my best this coming week. Spurs have got a new coach of course and he's young, so hopefully he'll be interested in bringing some youngsters through if they're good enough.

"I'm not getting ahead of myself at all. I'm just going to try to impress and see where it takes me. Obviously Spurs have got two older keepers in Brad Friedel and Carlo Cudicini, so there is an opportunity there. It's just up to me to prove I have the potential."

Grateful to the Mariners for allowing him to travel "when I'm sure they'd rather have a full squad together for pre-season", Ryan said there was also the chance of a trial at West Brom and he believed "Liverpool have expressed some interest too".

"So there's a couple of options but, first and foremost, I'm going there to impress Spurs if I possibly can," the young keeper said.

Spurs already have one young Australian on their books in midfielder Massimo Luongo, who signed a new deal with Tottenham earlier this month and was immediately sent on loan to Ipswich in England's second-tier Championship for a season.

Meanwhile, the Mariners are poised to sign young defender Brent Griffiths, brother of Rostyn Griffiths, who quit the club to join Chinese side Guangzhou R&F earlier this year. Brent, a left-footed defender, previously played a year for Perth Glory and is being signed as cover for Patrick Zwaanswijk in the centre of the Central Coast defence."

saw the lads training down at the beach at terrigal this morning, kwas and olly were getting treatment and doing bike work while the lads were running around. read into this if you will, they were playing a team building game where they were in pairs, they seemed to be fairly targeted parings and stainbury was paired with patrick so maybe he is slightly shorter odds to start in the CB pairing during the trials...

I disagree though. Watch him carefully. He actually isn't inconsistent. It's about hard things and easy things.
For whatever reason, Kwas lives in a backwards universe.

If you want him to put it top corner - don't slide one through just in front of him. Put it four feet behind him, in the air,
preferably having just changed direction in the last .5 of a second.

Kwas reasonably consistently pulls off the ludicrously hard. And reasonably consistently butchers the simple stuff.

I have pondered on this, and have a theory on the quantum mechanics of Kwas.

My findings are he should either pretend everything he does tht he has buckleys chance off pulling off, thereby giving him the permission required to fully commit.

Or we have to remove his brain, so he can no longer over think even the most simple of things.

He is not the only one ... a couple of years back I scored a goal everyone dreams of .. near half way and almost on the side line I received a back pass and decided to just hoof it into the box ... but with the help of the wind and the keeper off his line and looking into the sun it sailed in .... two week latter I came charging on to a ball ... I was roughly a meter off the line with the keeper nowhere to be seen ... a tap in was all that was needed for us to go top of the table ... instead I had time to think and decided to smash the ball tho the net ... result and don't ask me how I hit the ball with the outside of my foot and it sailed over the sideline roughly one third up the field... [we lost the game 1 nil and came second, a draw would have given us the premiership, I was very popular after the match .. not]

Great story. Have my own too. Everyone does it. But my point is. Kwas does it "consistently"

I can't see Caceras starting straight away.

Hutch will start there (unless something happens between now & season start) & Caceras will come on like Musti did while Perez was here.

What I'd like to see is more options on our playing style. It would be great if we could play a 4-2-3-1 when it comes to Asia with the same familiarity of the diamond 4-4-2

Maybe later in the year. Olly's knee will probably mean he won;t be a season stating player.

I wouldn't be surprised to see this XI against WSW

Tbh if we are to be in a position to challenge again as the best...we need to be as good as we were when Griff, Matty, Wilko, and Musti were in the side. I think the team that beat the Victory in Matty's last game was the stand out. The question is have we replaced those players with guys as good?

Anderson/Sainsbury for Wilko = yes as a player but probably not as a leader.
Sterj for Matty - better as a player, less workrate. Will offer more i think.
Caceres/Hutch/? for Griff - For me this is critical as at the moment an area we haven't improved on.
Rojic for Musti = Yes, better for me. Tommy will be brilliant this year and for nine was a better player than Musti last year. I'll wait for the abuse!
