Players Season 2012/2013 HAL8

Tbh if we are to be in a position to challenge again as the best...we need to be as good as we were when Griff, Matty, Wilko, and Musti were in the side. I think the team that beat the Victory in Matty's last game was the stand out. The question is have we replaced those players with guys as good?

Rojic for Musti = Yes, better for me. Tommy will be brilliant this year and for nine was a better player than Musti last year. I'll wait for the abuse!

Haha...yes thought i would get some abuse! I expect Anderson,Sainsbury, Caceres, Macdonald, Oates, Rojic to have great seasons. Not sure why anyone would think otherwise.I think Sterj will give us something we have never had before. I hope we still have another brilliant signing up our sleeves in the DM role. Obviously as some would think i have it all wrong, but i think we have it sorted. Will wait and see. No trolling, i just believe in the players we have but still think we are 1 or 2 players short of a toilet seat.

Just to be clear my post was only aimed at your Rojic for Musti comment.

McBreen, Sterjovski and Pellegrino would be better choices in that role.

As I have said before I would pick Sterjovski.

Ryan/Pasfield

Pedj/Oates Anderson/Sainsbury Dutchie Rose

Caceres / sainsbury

Weemac/Hearfield Hutch/Olly

Rogic / Caceres

Birnie Sterjovski

Let me know what you think of my line-up please:

I recon it's important to have 2 players every spot.

_______________ Pasfield / Bradasevic or Mitchell or new purchase

Pedj / Oates _______ Anderson / Sainsbury _______ Dutchie / Griffiths _______ Rose / McDonald

____________________ Sainsbury / Caceres / Pellegrino

_______ Weemac / Hearfield ______________ Hutch / Olly

____________________________ Rogic / McBreen

______________ Bernie / Kwassie _______ Sterjovski / Duke

Only Sainsbury has been chucked in there twice, just because I think he'd make a better CDM than Pelle and has a lot more experience than Caceres atm. Personally I didn't like Pelle at all last season. I thought his decision making was consistently different to the rest of the team's. He'd play a long ball instead of short passes, and try short passes when the long ball was on. However, he has had a lot of time to get used to our game and my brother recons he'd fit in nicely as a CDM. I disagree but can see his thought process...

Key areas for me:
- strong central defenders with good communication
- Weemac and Pedj + Bozanic and Rose combinations
- Rojic

Rojic had no pre-seson training and played well for us in bursts. I don't think he is as technically gifted, agile or has the same vision and creativity as Musti, but that's not to say he hasn't those skills. I just rate Amini highly. I think he will be a huge figure in the A-league, and opposition defences will worry about him the same way our defence will worry about a Flores or, hmm, apart from Broich who is a league above the others; there really aren't any other great attacking mids in the A-league that I can think of.
Looking at the other squads, us, Roar, and Victory are the only clubs with a really good attacking midfielder. That is hopefully the difference.
Others who may have one; Adelaide (new Argentinian), possibly the Jets (new Brazillian), Sydeny with Carle (lol) or Antonis. That doesn't leave too many teams, and the ones without attacking mids generally have good forwards. But I still think a good season from Rojic will give us another finals berth.

Yeah great side and with 23 players on the field we should be too good for anyone.

Pelle turns over the ball far too often and isn't a great tackler so DM is not an option for mine.

If Anderson, caceras and Rojic step up we will be a handful. If they don't we will need to bring in an extra player quickly.

Going to be very interesting.

The interview with Arnie from before the fan forum aired on TWG tonight. He said we are likely to be looking at 1 more signing probably in the midfield and we have decent money for it after the Wilko transfer.

Pelle who worries me the most...

I heard Arnie saying that he thinks Pellegrino will have a big season. However, I'm with you. Where will Arnie play him. At RM there is Wee-Mac and Troy who will be picked in front of him. At LM Hutch and Olly will be picked in front of him. At AM Tommy and Macca will be picked in front of him. He is not a DM and would be behind both Hutch and Caceres there.

Pellegrino even. By hope I am not saying I hope Pellegrino does well but rather I hope Arnie isn't going to play him -as he did in the last ACL game.

I think my concern with Pellegrino is not only for the club but for him. As I said before - he is virtually third choice for each of the midfield position at this stage. What game time will he get to justify another contract at the end of the season. TBH - maybe he needs to move to WSW or the like to get some game time or his professional career may be over. :( :( :(

I'm not worried about Pelle. Arnie will select who he thinks is best. And if he genuinely thinks that's Pelle, well he'd have to be markedly improved.

I'm very happy about to hear about Duke however. Always liked what I'd seen of him. And Bernie scoring twice over there is good news too.

good point, let's hope hearfield keeps on a roll.
i just assumed Sterj's quality was a given and he needed a break after having no off season, i.e. doesn't need as much game time in the legs. he does need to get used to the team and vice versa though. i suspect he'll play a part in the a-league frendlies we have coming up, and if not time to worry
