Graham Arnold's pro-teen shake for Central Coast Mariners
by: Tom Smithies From: The Daily Telegraph May 11, 2012 12:00AM
THE ripple effect of Graham Arnold's decision to stay with the Mariners is set to bring further good news for the Premiers, with attacking impresario Tom Rogic poised to sign a new deal with the club.
Rogic, 19, and Pedj Bojic were formally offered new contracts yesterday - the first priority of incoming football director Lawrie McKinna - while veteran defender Patrick Zwaanswijk will next week be secured for another season by the club.
Before the season finishes there remains at least next Tuesday's crunch Asian Champions League trip to Nagoya Grampus, where a win will send the Mariners into the first knockout stage a fortnight later.
But McKinna, just days into his return to the club, said there would now be rapid movement on nailing down Arnold's squad.
"We offered Pedj a new deal yesterday and I only sent Tom's off this morning but I'm confident both will stay - certainly they've both said they want to," McKinna said.
"Tom was waiting to see what Arnie decided, while Pedj has been in talks for a while and is pretty close to agreement so hopefully we can get both of their situations sorted and tie them down for next season."
Bojic has been a target for Sydney FC and is also believed to be on the wish list for the new Sydney club, but has so far played a waiting game on his future.
Zwaanswijk has been waiting for several weeks to learn what will be on offer, after committing himself in principle to staying on in the wake of another outstanding season at the heart of the Mariners back four.
He was another keen to know Arnold's plans and McKinna said a concrete offer would follow the trip to Japan.
"Patrick had a great season, and he's keen to stay, especially now that he knows Arnie will be here," McKinna said.
"I had an initial chat with him yesterday and we'll step it up after the players return from the ACL game next week."
Defender Zac Anderson should also shortly sign the deal he has been offered for next season after impressing for the Gold Coast in the past year.
scottmac please!
anyone know how Matty's doing with Chunnam?
Matt Simon; Josh Kennedy; Scot MacDonald...
I'd take Brett Holman but he might prefer the money at Aston Villa.
I'd be amazed if we sign Nathan Burns after the way Arnie shafted him for the Olympics. If we are talking to two I am still holding a candle for Aaron Mooy.
