So McBreen has signed for another year. While I admire his application and ability I think that money could have been better spent on getting someone else a bit younger and with a better strike rate than he currently has.

is the mcbreen resigning what you were talking about SnoA ??? im glad we resigned him . . yes we couldve gone younger. . but his experience and strength is enough for me to get a contract even just for one year!

Up to 17 players for next year now. The look of stability in the squad is there- but without any wow factor.

Still need a first team CB, RB, DM, AM and striker and a backup CB.

Some could be the re-signing of Patrick, Pedj and the signing of Anderson.

That still leaves a starting DM a starting AM and a starting stiker - so essentially we are still looking to replacing Matty and Rostyn and you look at it over the last two years Perez/Amini. These positions along the spine are the ones we need to concentrate on so that we can raise the bar again. It still comes back to having the dosh to chase the right players - so where are those Russians?

I'll be surprised if Pellegrino stays as he rarely even made the bench and at his age he needs to be playing - I expect he will seek a release.

I strongly disagree re starting AM PJ. I've read your thoughts on Rocgic, but this is a 19 year old who came in late with no pre season under him and still instantly adjusted to being one of our stand out peformers and pretty much set the league on fire. At his age? That's one hell of an achievement. The kids an excitement machine with serious vision and touch. Give him 6 more months and a full pre season to undoubtedly gain better fitness, strength and more time to build combinations with his team mates... Can't imagine us finding a much better AM. The real issue is going to be keeping him. McBreen also did a great job when he played number 10 this year too I thought and is a worthy backup.

Have two CB's, Dutchy wnats to play football still, and now Anderson too. Only need "one" more cover. Oates, sainsbury in a pinch?

DM... Hutch, and don't we have Caceres who people are very excited about too?

Striker... well, Im with you there. Though I'm not sure how Arnie sees it, with kwas, Hearfield, McBreen, Bernie and Duke on the books. I don't know if we will go chasing another striker.

I'm not sure we are seeing too much differently. The CB and backup CB as you said will likely be Anderson and Patrick - neither has been announced.

I prefer Hutch at LM and see him and Ollie competing for the spot. Hutch is a good screener bit doesn;t really aid our transition to attack in the way of a Mile or Griffiths. Caceres is untried but would be in the mix there as well.

The AM may well be Rogic - as you said a proper pre-season under Clarky and the kid could be anything. He went from a 20 minute player to a 70 minute player quickly. As you said the issue may be keeping him so I didn't identify him as the likely option. This may be especially true if the Telegraph story on Arnie is true.

As for striker - if we want to go to the next level we need to be more clinical. I'm happy with all the guys you listed as second stikers and/or backups - but we need a more prolific striker.

Arnie apparently gone means some of these assumptions may not happen esp Rogic.

I can see this topic getting an absolute caneing over the off season. Some exciting times ahead.

One question i have, in regards to the ACL, if we qualify for the next round, can we submit a new squad list or add players to it? If so and we win next week, we may see a few signings quicker than expected.

I posted a while back and nothing has changed my mind IMO Rogic will stay with GA ...

We need to fill a couple of places ... DM, RB & Striker .... Pedj is so hot and cold but as the a-League improves overall he is IMO struggling to technically be a top player ... however would be a great squad player ... I agree with FP Hutch & Olly for LM with my preference for Olly but again Hutch a great squad player...

A striker what I would give for a high class striker ...

Just on Rogic the kid could be anything and more than likely will leave us at sometime over the next 15 or so months... but would love to see him with a top striker in front and a top DM behind ...

ok . . . .im aware this could be met pretty badly . . . .but here goes

Elrich???? jets are dumb to let him go IMO. . .if pedj leaves . .thats a pretty good replacement or even squaddy . .i feel he will probably be picked up fairly quickly though . .
also
Brockie? big strong forward and younger . . .could help Bernie a tonne . . .

tarek would NEVER betray the Jets fans...even though IMO he was screwed over.
A certainty for Western Sydney...consdering thats where he is from...and a lebanese player can help engage the arab community...makes sense IMO

Both decent suggestions but Elrich is past his best but would make a decent squad signing.

Brockie is a good player (I've been saying that since season 1) but is still not the 15 goals a season striker we so desperately need.

Add to that that they have both been tainted by playing for the Scum and I'd say no to both.

i'd be very happy with brockie. he could fill the 10 spot nicely, as i don't think rogic ever will. rogic to me is only ever going to be a holding striker (that's not a bad thing) as he simply don't have the speed and foot work for a 10.
brockie being shafted by tinkler FC will be looking for pay back . this alone would be enough for me . imagine him scoring a brace at bogan stadium for us . that would be gold my friends.

We have good cover in most spots.
Keeper....1st team and reserve. OK
Right back......Pedj is definitely my starting RB. We are an infinitely better side with him in the back four. He has the best go forward of any fullback in HAL. His crossing is poor but that can be easily be fixed with repetition. Need cover for when he is suspended.
Left back.......1st team and reserve. OK
Centre backs.....Wilko and Dutchy. Sainsbury and Anderson as cover. Not sure that we need anyone else.
Right mid....WeeMac. Can play Kwas or Hutcho as cover...or even Hearfield.
Left mid......Bozanic with Hutcho or Kwas as cover.
DM ....starting 11 player needed desperately. Hutcho is good as cover.
Am.....another quality player of the standard of Perez or Nicky Carle to battle for starting spot. McBreen to act as cover for this spot and striker.
Striker ......we need a proven high quality goalscorer like Nathan Burns or Sackwacker (not him but that standard) to partner Bernie.
Kwas , McBreen and Hearfield can act as cover.

So I see that we only need 3 new players.
