ccmfans.net is the Central Coast Mariners fan community, and was formed in 2004, so basically the beginning of time for the Mariners. Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

It only takes a few minutes, and joining will let you post your thoughts and opinions on all things Mariners, Football, and whatever else pops into your mind. If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

Anyone else find that offensive?

Better of calling him "that good player from Canberra", but few would know who you mean. How about "that Victory right-sided player"?

No point calling him 'African American' because he's neither.

Personally I'm not offended, but then I'm not black, just a pleasant beige.

I would think the description is offensive if it's done in a derogatory fashion. I didn't think it was when I read it.

Which part of the description might upset some of the more gentle souls/basket weavers?

Young.....em bit ageist......but I'm sure he is growing up fast.
Victory player....clearly a Cnut....but a least you knew I didn't mean a Liverpool player.
Right sided.......hmmm.....can't he play in the middle and keep everyone happy?
Black.......not sure what descriptor I should have used....non Anglo?

Nope, I took it as a descriptive term, like blonde or tall, not a racial slur in any way.

Ange has had enough time now too to implement his 'way', MV are going to be very dangerous this year. Then I think of our front 4 - Duke, Simon, Flores & McGlinchey - cripes that's a scary quad to defend against. CCM are looking even better than last year.

Still wondering though whether Arnie will shift the structure to suit the players at the back, adapt the style or leave as is. Whilst not weaker per se the defense is not as versatile or agressive as in recent times with the changes in personnel

Is it possible we might wind up going for a 'magic square' shape up top like Brazil did a few years back?

4-2-2-2:

Pasfield
Sainsbury Seip Anderson Rose
Monty Hutch
McGlinchey Flores
Duke Simon
The top 4 are essentially free to float and cause maximum havoc. In defence you'd probably still set up with a 4-4-2, with all four front guys expected to ensure that there are at least two defending in the MF line and two in the FW line at all times.

The only problem I see with that lineup is Sainsbury at right back, he certainly had some of his poorer games last season when he played there.

Watched the Mainers train this morning for a half an hour or so. Phil Moss was in charge. Everyone was there bar, Sainsbury, Kwas, Duke & Seip. Simon looked very fit and energetic, Flores full of class. Mile was the second goal keeper.

This was the first formation that popped into my head when I heard Bernie was leaving and Flores was possibly coming...
A lack of actually wingers...also not so much depth in midfield as last season...a bucketload of strikers etc.

The only issue that I was worried about was possibly upsetting Flores style of play.
Whilst a 4-2-2-2 wouldn't be as bad as the situation he was placed in at Melbourne...I still wonder whether he could handle another unusual formation (assuming he has never played it before?)
You'd think he would have the skill set to adapt...

(McGlincehy on the other hand would absolutely thrive in this formation!)
