. if pedj has deliberately gone against arnie's instructions (re. talking to the enemy) leading into such a big game with the off-season looming and another year on his contract (which he pushed pretty hard for i recall) ... then he probably deserves a bit of stick

. but i'll throw a bit of a curve ball ... maybe he was on the bench for football/tactical reasons:
  • by most accounts he was pretty ordinary last week (more to do with the opposition than hats i reckon)
  • trent was due to come back in from injury - arguably the club's best player and cleanest tackler
  • big zach had performed pretty well as stand-in
  • their biggest threat was to be attacking their left wing again (muriqui)
  • arnie's tactic was to defend solidly and hope to turn it around after surviving the fast half
. to some degree (and with the larger acl bench) it made sense to start trent in front of pedj. the fact that the plan was turned to shit so quickly is largely an irrelevance

. oh and as i have stated before i think trent if far better in the middle :)

EDIT: midfielder snuck in a post whilst i was typing stating pedj had already agreed a release and terms with marquee fc ... so that was probably a factor too, if true :p

And Pedj is gonski:

CENTRAL Coast Mariners wish to confirm that defender Pedj Bojic has been granted a release from the Club.
Bojic approached management in recent weeks wishing to terminate the final year of his contract.
The Club held talks with Bojic in a bid to having him remain with the Mariners.
However, Bojic’s release will now be activated upon the team’s return to Australia on Friday.

Glad that Bernie may be staying, shame about Oli but to be honest I've never rated him that much, but I still like him. As long as we hang onto Mikey McGlinchey, and what with Caceres who impressed me in his one start.

What about the old hands, specifically Mile and Pellers? Any word of them leaving? They just both seem so out of their depth and past it, Mile has moments of brilliance but one minute of good play versus 89 of poor play it is beyond frustrating watching him. And Kwasnik is sticking around yeah? Hows his injury gone?

With Hutch and Monty still in for next season, maybe Olly would not get a lot of game time here?

Yeah thats true, Arnie always seems to play Oly in the midfield as a replacement for Hutch or Monty, and not so much up forward in a position Mikey plays or Tom Rogic used to play.

For all his faults, Pedj had heart and a massive engine. He will be tough to replace. Would also hate to lose Bozanic. His cameos late in the season have been excellent. Here's hoping that Caceres can quickly be groomed into his replacement if he goes.

You reckon Cheddar Cheese can be our new sponsors.

I really like Ollie - He looks the goods to me - Think Arnie brought him on to late in Gosford.

Wonder how the tie has affected Berni - Was in a pretty defensive roll which didn't help but the ball just seems to get stuck under his feet a lot, has lanky legs & just looses his momentum looking for where the ball has gone instead of having it front of him. Almost like he is so quick he runs past the ball LOL. Needs another year - I also am unsure of his motor - He is quick but didn't seem to press up & back a lot like say Pedj but not sure if that's his ticker or GA tactics.

Is the Danish league better than the A-league though? Is Colin Todd/GK coach really better than Crawley and Arnie? Is Che Bunce really of enough quality to make their 'Notable Former Players' section on Wiki (no seriously). Hope it works out for Maty but would rather Lille.

Pedj can go. 124 games of honest service minus the last 2. Enjoy finishing outside the top 6 for once.

Bozanic would be a loss. Versitile and quality player who is of starting quality.

Just can't believe how many changes are a foot this year. Bit of a comedown from our amazing run this year.

I have heard it on the grapevine that the Mariners are abandoning their youth policy and going for veterans - specifically old over-the-hill still living off past glories Socceroos: Schwarzer (out of contract at Fulham) for Ryan, Look-at-me Lucas Neil for Patrick, Harry 'match fit' Kewell for Ollie, and David 'the A League is beneath me' Carney for Bernie. You heard it here first.

Schwarzer would be a get. Neill is no better than Anderson and Sainsbury (though if we lose Sainsbury too I'd probably accept it pretty happily). Kewell *could* be good if he gave a f**k, and Carney's a joke.

Could be worse.

. and they are all going to play for youth wages. they will play no more than 60 minutes a match - not for fitness/age reasons, but to give the youth an opportunity. it's all about giving back to football

. sterjovski has decided not to take up the extension option on his contract because he doesn't want to play with old farts

. this off-season is going to be interesting

From SBS...

Soooo... Considering who it's from, should we just dismiss it as the warped speculation of unstable minds looking for a story? ;)

http://theworldgame.sbs.com.au/news/1152846/Mariners-stars-destined-for-exit-door

Goalkeeper Mat Ryan, defender Pedj Bojic and midfielder Oliver Bozanic look to have played their last games for Central Coast Mariners as the A-League champion faces a raft of departures in the aftermath of its AFC Champions League exit.
Out-of-contract Ryan is pondering personal terms with Europa League bound Danish Superliga outfit Randers.

Randers again... I suppose he could do worse... Certainly hope they're looking to pay him better than their last $100.000 offer hinted at.... But I suppose the 20% on-sale fee isn't too bad for us :)

I wonder how much that fee would, for Ollie to be released and I'm a bit surprised that this Lille thing isn't coming off for Bernie... I'd hate to lose him, but I sort of also hope that Brugge is still interested.

Schwartzer comes in, injury first game is season, up steps another outstanding Crawly teenager - happy with that

Lucas would not be a bad get either to assist in developing zac and possibly Trent could also fill the right back issue.

As for the other 2 no thanks

Granted, I'm not exactly unbiased ;) but YES... Yes it is...
Is Randers better than the Mariners - of this I am not so certain... But teams like FC Copenhagen (FCK), FC Nordsjælland (lately), OB - occasionally... I would judge them as better... I don't know that it actually means anything, but Coe played four games for Randers... While he played more for SønderjyskE I seem to recall that he was headed for the bench when he was bought by MV (don't quote me on that though)...

Then again - Berisha came and went at Horsens a couple of times... Not sure what to make of that ;)

Meh, a little disappointed, but I guess it gives us someone new to "boo" ... Sellout ;)

We will automatically gain a $180k development fee regardless. 20% is very good.
