Arnie off to China seems a very (repeat very) strong rumour

So did "Arnie to Sydney" a year-or-so ago and look what came of that ;)

I can't help but wonder whether he includes China in the comments about wanting to go to Asia... One would assume that he has been talking to someone like Lawrie and others about the situation there... My impression is that it is not the greatest play to coach... Or develop your career as one...
That doesn't mean much though, 'cos realistically, what do I know? But still, if it was me, I'd probably stay in Australia, if given the choice between coaching CCM and some middling Chinese club, I'd probably go with CCM.. Assuming that, for the irrelevance of the league, it probably still raises more awareness than the relatively middling Chinese club.

That is not intended as a slight on Chinese clubs or China, obviously... Just based on the impressions I get from media etc... :)

I would have thought if Arnie went, then Phil Moss would be on his way too. Would Arnie go to China without a number two?

However having said that I seem to recall some young kids coming onto the pitch with Mossie ( I could be wrong) after a win. So maybe he'd stay if he has a young family.

what do you reckon it'd take for Arnie to stay?

for me, I'd think either
1) no offer comes that's quite what he wants. already said he's happy here and has the luxury of another year to get the right offer, or
2) a particularly excellent ACL campaign...if things go well, and I can see us making it out of the group stage with a win tomorrow, then he might be keen to give it a good Aussie go next year before heading off

the challenge of a rebuild and winning back to back trophies isn't a bad one either, especially if he gets given some freedom in recruitment

Looking at 442, the rumour has a great supporter in "OzSportsInsider" - which usually means that it should probably be taken with more than a grain of salt ;)

and the chinese are shit ,it would be a backward step.into a universally corrupt country.
the so called asian superiority is a myth outside of japan.
even the japs aren't light years ahead of us.
Depleted squad or not, Guizhou were miles better than us when they woke up the other night. Chinese, Korean and Japanese players that we see in the ACF CL are *all* basically at a higher level of technical proficiency than your typical AL player.

I'd contest your view on Japan too - I reckon the Japanese national team will win a World Cup before we make it to the quarters. They were better than us in 2011, and the gap is increasing. Our team is stagnating (at best) while they develop.

They don't need superstar names, they just have an endless production line of quality talent coming through, and we won't see our production line mature for more than 10 years when every one of our senior players has come through the SSF system (so when players born in 2002 are the oldest in the system).

The CSL is all over the place - there are major governance issues, but the standard of play is still very high.

. i would think that with regards to 'asia' arnie would be looking towards japan if possible. forget about the quality of the respective leagues i think he would like to have the 'flexibility' offered by a much larger payroll

. i also have to agree with some of the comments about china ... from what i have heard and seen ... it's a good place to avoid - for coaches and players to some extent. they still have a lot of shit to sort out. all the issues the mariners have had could seem like only a minor inconvenience by comparison

. with regard to the re-signing of players ... its gonna get tricky and drawn out i reckon. with so many of the youngens looking to move on it will take some time before they, the club and (lastly) us know where all the cards will land. we will need to balance squad places, youth and experience. perhaps the future of guys like big pat & mile will be determined by who does move on and when. i don't expect to know anytime soon

I read somewhere he was only interested in coaching in the J-league in Asia.

Anyways f**k that....Arnie has some unfinished business here and it's called becoming the coach of the first Aussie team to win the ACL.

are we being warmed to the idea? probably not, suspect that it's just reporters asking the question. it'll all depend on what's offererd. going to be a looooong off-season
"PREMIERSHIP coach Graham Arnold will be free to walk from the last year of his contract if a major overseas club wants him, with Central Coast owner Mike Charlesworth stressing: "Arnie deserves that respect."

i don't know what you were watching . outside their euro stars and sun gi hi .their crap .
jonas sally won't make the a league anymore yet was their best defender. go figure.

i also believe the japs are the dark horse for the world cup . our team has declined due to "the dark ages"
between the old NSL and the A league .

as above . the japs have a great system which has been going for 30 years to produce what they got.
the chinese and even koreans are way behind them. their league teams are not their national sides .

The CSL is all over the place - there are major governance issues, but the standard of play is still very high.

im yet to see it . china is good if you want to make money ,but it rivals the BCCI for corruption

From an eye-witness, I am not sure they 'woke up' or we just lost our concentration and legs, esp. the youngsters.
They have some class players though, who could hurt us - which I admitted to Guizhou TV at half-time - and they did.

I have a feeling that we will have a completely different team next season, exciting and changing times ahead for the club.

Players that I think will leave the club after the ACL:
-Ibini
-Ryan
-Sainsbury
-Zwaanswijk (will retire i think, where he will go who knows? / coaching hopefully)
- Arnold (coach overseas although I hope im wrong and he stays to defend the title and excel in the ACL)

Will be an interesting transition for the club, if Arnold does leave i'm comfortable with Phil Moss taking the head coaching role with potentially having Zwannswijk as his assistant if he retires. Who knows Matt Simon could return, and watching other players step up and cement a first team spot (Anderson, Griffiths, McDonald, Duke etc.) will be an interesting time to be a Mariners fan!

Cant really think of any players from any other A-League club that would fit into our club... ... ...

Bring on 2013/2014 season!
