He is a left winger so he will replace WeeMac. Looks to be a good signing. I wonder if we are going to buy a #10 still. If not Caceres is in that spot for the rest if the season.

Central Coast Mariners can today confirm that experienced South Korean attacker Kim Seung-yong will join the Club until the completion of the Hyundai A-League 2014/15 season.

The talented 28-year-old is due to arrive in Australia later this week, and will link with the Mariners having spent the last two seasons with 2012 AFC Champions League victors Ulsan Hyundai.

Kim boasts considerable experience in Korea Republic’s top flight, the K-League Classic, as well as Japan’s highly regarded J.League where he plied his trade with glamour club Gamba Osaka in 2011.

And, the former FC Seoul and Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors man was integral to Ulsan Hyundai’s continental triumph just two years ago, netting the third goal in the Tigers’ 3-0 win over Saudi Arabia’s Al-Ahli in the tournament’s Final.

Central Coast Mariners boss Phil Moss believes Kim will add spark and experience to his squad, and says he is excited to work with the former South Korean youth international.

“We've taken as much time as we’ve needed to land our man, and based on all our due diligence we believe Kim Seung-yong will have a major impact for our Club on and off the field,” Moss said.

“It made a lot of sense to me to investigate bringing a top quality Asian player to the Mariners, especially considering our involvement with the 2014 AFC Champions League.”

“We see it as a massive opportunity to tap into the Korean community in Australia, and a chance to generate further awareness of our Club in Asia," he said.

Central Coast Mariners Chief Executive Officer, Mr Bruce Stalder, said the addition of Kim Seung-yong to the Mariners’ ranks demonstrates the Club’s desire to recruit and develop high calibre players.

“Kim Seung-yong ticks all the boxes for us as a Club,” Stalder said. “He is player of immense quality and reputation in Asia, he has a desire to play in Australia, and he is extremely familiar with the AFC Champions League – a competition we will be entering for the fourth time in 2014.”

Central Coast Mariners will send further fan, member, and media updates regarding Kim Seung-yong’s arrival in Australia over the coming days.

I'm stoked we have signed an Asian player. It fits in with the ACL 3+1 rule and means we don't have to have a foreign player sit it out.
Anything that helps us in the ACL is good.

Makes perfect sense... thanks for letting us know

Personally, I couldn't be happier with Trent's move (apart from the fact he is leaving us of course). Moving to a competitive team playing in one of the best leagues in the world... with a high chance of first team selection PLUS European football.... WOW!

We have a thread for the discussion of our ex-players playing overseas... http://www.ccmfans.net/community/in...conquering-the-world.5223/page-24#post-190507 It would be great if you could keep us updated on Tesco's progress.

Thanks for the thread. Will do!

Already played for 5 a-league teams, In a nutshell he keeps getting bumped down the pecking order by marque signings and moving on

Incidentally, Kim Seung-Yong looks like an absolute catch. He's played at some pretty big clubs - FC Seoul, Gamba Osaka, Ulsan Hyundai; he won the Champions League with Ulsan (and scored in the final, if you don't mind) and he's turned down a deal at Ulsan to come to us. This could be something really good.
